We will run/repeat a few more tests tonight during practice to evaluate some suggestions/ideas that came forward, These are not scheduled for implementation yet. Unless it improves the experience, or make it easier to run the race night, we won't implement. Feedback is encouraged.

The one thing we want to potentially implement in November is the utilization of the qualification system in GTSport. Unfortunately there is not a "race alone" option like we had in GT6, so we are testing a hybrid of the current snail qually procedure with the GTSport procedure. What we are looking for is to cut out rogue players from entering and potentially interfering with qually. Also, the start screen will provide all qually lap times that will also be available for viewing on replays (last one to be confirmed). If someone dc during qually, it will provide a proper record for where everybody finished in qually so that the race can be stopped and the grid manually set if the dc'd driver comes back in time. So, there are potentially a lot of benefits if we can make it work without adding wasted time to race night or cause someone to miss out on qualifying.

Qually principle: 5 second gap between racers, out lap, one hot lap, stop.

Here is what we going to test for tonight:
  • For Round 1 and Round 2: (Honda and Camaro)
    • Set the lobbies to Practice / Qualify / Race and fastest first for Race 1 and Reverse Grid for Race 2
    • Qualify 5 minutes
    • The rundown time after qually will be set to the minimum (30 sec)
    • Rundown time after the race to be set at 30 seconds (instead of 90 seconds) ** See explanation way below
  • Procedure for Race 1 with the Honda (Round 1)
  • Host makes sure everybody is ready and can see each other
  • Start qualifying
  • Everybody leaves the pits at the same time and line up after turn 1 with host at the back
  • Host types "Start 5 sec intervals"
  • Start Qually with 5 sec intervals, complete the out lap and ONE hot lap and stop
  • Host make a notes:
    • time left in qually when the "green light" was given
    • the time left in qually when last person (the host) crosses the line to start his hot lap
    • the rundown time after qually clock runs out
    • total time it took from starting qually to the time the race started. (maybe make a note of the actual time you started qually and the actual time the race started).
    • did everyone complete a hot lap (ignore the ones that could not complete the lap due to a spin or another error)

  • (This procedure will most likely apply when we need to split the qually into more than one group on short tracks)
  • Procedure for Race 1 with the Camaro (Round 2)
  • Host makes sure everybody is ready and can see each other
  • Start qualifying
  • Everybody leaves the pits at the same time.
  • The driver coming out of the pits first immediately go full speed and start his out lap.
  • Driver in 2nd place speeds up as soon as he has a reasonable gap (±5 sec) between him and driver 1. Same with driver 3 to 2, etc. All drivers to manage and maintain the gap ahead of them during the out lap. (This will minimize the time for the last driver (the host) to start his out lap.) Note: No drafting allowed
  • Everyone completes the out lap and ONE hot lap and then stop.
  • Host make notes:
    • the time left in qually when last person (the host) crosses the line to start his hot lap
    • the rundown time after qually clock runs out
    • total time it took from starting qually to the time the race started (maybe make a note of the actual time you started qually and the actual time the race started).
  • Procedure for Race 1 with the Nissan (Round 3)
    • Set the lobby to Practice / Race and fastest first for race one and reverse grid for Race 2. (We will follow Current Snail Qually procedure)
    • Rundown time after the race to be set at 30 seconds (instead of 90 seconds) ** See explanation way below
    • Host makes sure everybody is ready and can see each other
    • Host call everyone to line up after turn 1 (make a note of the time of day)
    • When everyone is lined up, host types "Start 5 sec intervals" (make a note of the time of day)
    • Everyone completes the out lap and one hot lap
    • Host starts the race (make a note of the time of day)
    • Host to report total time it took from starting qually to the time the race started.
  • Changing the clock rundown after the race from 90 sec to 30 sec
    • The purpose for testing this is to see if we can save 6 minutes of idle time and convert that into race time by making races a bit longer. Currently we have a target not to exceed 12 minutes. We could then consider to make the target not to exceed 13 minutes.
    • We looked at some data and there is a very low percentage of racers finishing more than 30 seconds behind the leader, and the ones that do, are most likely to be racing by themselves anyway, or they have parked. It is very rare for two racers battling it out for position 30 seconds behind the leader.
    • Some of this lost time is mitigated by the scorekeeper entering the scores during the countdown, but that only is a benefit if he finishes high up in the order.
  • We will analyze the information and make a recommendation.
See y'all at practice tonight.

All hosts should start tonight's racing at the scheduled time. The only reason to hold the start is to give someone who was already in the lobby their three minutes to return from the time they left, provided they are believed to have been disconnected, or to sort invisible driver issues.
