I've been seeing this car a lot and I'm even starting to like the base models too. I may ad this to my potentials list even though I'm not look for a car atm. I wanted to get people's opinion on this car, not so much the EVO X though. I hope they make the Mitsubishi Prototype-S Concept because it would be a lot more practical having a hatchback. (at least for me)

Anyway, what do you think of the reliability of this car? How bout gas mileage?

MustangSVT would be the person to talk to, I believe he owns an '07 GTS...

I like the look of the car, and I hear the performance isn't too bad. I can't say whether or not if I like it better than the Mazda3 (which I'm likely getting), as I haven't taken one for a spin yet.

As for reliability, I can't imagine it being too bad. The MIVEC engine, as far as I know, has been rated pretty well on it. Fuel mileage can't be too bad either, probably in that 30 MPG or so range (combined).
 
I never thought champagne could work for a car.... But it looks good on that Lancer!

I think the back end of the base Lancer looks too tall, but otherwise it's a nice design!
 
Yeh the rear end looks slightly tall and boxy, otherwise great looking cars. They're popping up here more and more.
 
Just looking at the pic of the base Lancer again....and I've noticed the thing I hate about the designs of many new cars: they all look like a door wedge with a cabin. The beltline starts low and rises to the rear, giving a tall rear and tiny rear windows. I prefer the cars of the 80's with their flat beltlines and square-ish bodies.
 
I quite like the Lancer, but only the GTS model. This is one of the few cars in the world that I actually think looks notably better with a spoiler, underside moldings, and oversized wheels. (For my Mazda 3, I very purposefully chose the smallest alloy wheels possible and no spoiler.)
 
Hey Sage, why not throw away that bottle of boring you've been taking and buy a real car! :sly:

Even Sage has convinced me how good the M3iT is! Thats why I'm buying one too!
 
Actually I was referring to his decision to borify it with no spoiler and the smallest wheels available :p
 
As I recall, the smallest wheels made available are 16" so thats still pretty big for the class. The one I'll likely get doesn't have a spoiler either, and I'm okay with that...
 
Ahhh well 16's aren't bad. Just looking at the Mazda site, I'm guessing he has the 3 Sedan since the hatchback has a spoiler standard.....in fact I'd guess that he either has the i Touring or s Sport. I on the other hand would prefer the MAZDASPEED3! :sly:
 
I have an s (I don’t know what an s sport is – is that for the 2008 models?). And I quite like my plain s, because it also didn’t come with underside moldings. :D (The Touring came with that standard.)
 
The S Sport is the new basic level 3s these days, but I'm not sure what separates it from the S Touring. I'm sure that it has all the fancy gizmos, because I know the i Sport doesn't have power windows/locks, or anything else that I'd consider "important" in a new car.
 
Haha just go to the Mazda website and look at the differences between the trim levels, like I did! :sly:
 
A buddy of mine has the GTS model with most of the options on it iirc. It's a pretty comfortable ride overall, not to rough but you can certain feel the road. The quality of the interior isn't the greatest, but it's certainly average if not better. The back seat is pretty roomy and quite comfortable. He has the upgraded sound system in it, which, for a factory system is fairly good, nice bass, nice treble. The CVT transmission it uses is pretty interesting, it's weird to not hear the shift when accelerating. Overall I really like it defiantly worth the money I'd say.
 
I guess part of my main concern is some people I've talked to don't like the reliability of Mitsubishi and others don't like the engine. I have no experience with Mitsubishi so I don't know either way.

I have the '08 GTS (bought approximately 5 -6 months ago). Gas mileage is pretty good on it. According to the car's computer, I get about 7.9-8.8L/100km on my everyday 20km trip to school. Reliability wise, no problems so far.

Engine wise, i think it's powerful enough to get you into trouble. I actually beat a MR2 GT at a red light the other day. Maybe the other guy wasn't trying or maybe he was just dumb, but I find it's a satisfyingly fast car overall. Just don't expect it to blow you away by just driving "regularly" (i.e. upshifting at 3000rpm and under).
 
My friend has just got a base model with a 5speed and the whole dvd/hdd/nav in the dash in electric blue. Its a really nice car. He was able to get it for 17 grand because his dad paid in cash. He let me drive it and I found it really nice. It comes with a keyless entry option thats also very cool. The 2.0 4cyl puts out 152hp and gets decent gas mileage (mid 20's) with premium gas. I would definately suggest it.👍

I got 33mpg for a trip the other day when I took a 30km drive to my house via a road in the city that goes about 100-110km/h (so half of my trip was "highway" mileage, half was like good traffic condition on "city" mileage).
 
33mpg is a lot more like it than mid 20's on prem...

Since I'd be coming from a 12+ year old car with under 100hp... ANYTHING would be "i think it's powerful enough to get you into trouble" :lol:

I was looking at a Hachi Roku the other day and even IT would be an upgrade even though it's 3 yrs older than my car. :lol: :grumpy:

I have a wannabe hachi roku...

I put 87 octane gas in mine (regular called here) and been fine so far. As I said, I got 33mpg on my half-highway,half-good traffic driving. On average, I get between 27mpg and 30mpg on my home-school route.

I went to this Lancer from a '98 VW Jetta which supposedly had 115hp, and it felt like quite a big change. This Lancer honestly feels just as good as the Mercedes C230 CDI (diesel) that I drove in germany for a few weeks back in 2006.
 
If it makes any difference, I sat in both an Evo and what I think was a GTS today at the Auto Show. I liked what Mitsu's done in the interior department in these cars. The Evo's shifter (Was an Auto GTS with Flappy Paddles) was nice and solid. I liked them both. Nice places to be. Even the Galant and Eclipse impressed me.

I sat in the Evo too when I took my car for service at my dealer. On first impression, I regretted not waiting for the Evo but after looking at the price, I definetely would've not been able to afford it. It's like $43,000 for the Evo GSR here.
 
EVO is nice and all but frankly there's just too many things that are more important most of them having to do with saving some green... xD

I hate to be a hypocrite, but I'd rather get some stuff to put on it to make it look more like an EVO than a stock lancer.
