1.06 Update Broke the game?

I just updated the game to 1.06, my PS3 is up to date. Now after the GT5 splash screen all I get is a blank screen and nothing loads. I let it sit there for about 30 minutes.

I've read on forums that having a slow Internet can affect it, but I've restarted my Internet and it's still not working.

My friend just updated his PS3 and game to 1.06 as well, but his runs just fine.

What troubleshooting tips do you guys have? Is anyone else getting this problem?

I got the exact same problem, updated and now a black screen and game won't work at all. Everything else I stick in there works fine but no more GT5 for me I guess....??
 
Try switching your internet connection off in the XMB first, then run it. If that doenst work : back up your save, remove the save from the XMB. Run the game.
 
Try either hitting "X" or completely turning off then back on your PS3. (I only say hit "X" because I had a similar looking black screen, but hitting X got me to the normal startup menu... like the black screen was part of the background movie or something)
 
I deleted my game data, (this will delete replays, photos and updates), then update your game again and install the game data, worked for me.
 
Always back up your save before any patch, then if it does cock up first time you've got something to fall back on. Can't really expect them to say that before you d/l new patch, but I'd always recommend, better to be safe than sorry.

So this does not deleate the actual saves and erase everything, only photos, videos and updates correct? stupid i know just want to make shure before i loose several million dollars worth of cars

No your save data is in another folder, but I recommend to always backup your save data.
 
The first time I loaded the game after the update, there was a long period of HDD activity (yellow light flashing) before the loading screen cleared and the menus appeared. This was a one time thing, to build a database of PP ratings or other things associated with the patch I assumed. So either give it time to build this new cache, or if the process has hanged (no yellow light flashing) then maybe you have had a bigger issue; perhaps a save file over 4160KB before patch was applied, or some other anomaly?
