That would be cool if I started with 100,000 credits. But does it have to be any old save, or was there any word of something like 100% has to be complete? Because I started my GT3 over. If 100% is necessary, my friend better still have my GT3 save on his memory card
It seems not likely that just any GT3 save will earn you 100,000 credits. But, we're not sure how much a normal game starts off with. I bet since there is so much added to GT4, I wont be surprised if we get 50,000 credits to start off with. Remember, we have to buy a car and perhaps a helmet, race suit, gloves, gas, and who knows what else to start off with.

I'm sure it's a reward for a 100% complete game save. Perhaps there will be something else awarded. What ever it is, I think I'm covered. I still have a game save with a Day 229 with all gold licenses and a bunch of different cars.

I think I'll just stick with a normal game. I think we're getting plenty of money to start with, and it's always better to start off small anyway. With a ton of money, all you have to do is buy some fancy sports car and power your way through the whole Beginner League. Not much of a challenge, that.

Same with the licenses.. with the total physics overhaul, I'm actually looking forward to the licenses as a "how to" for the new physics, before I get into any serious racing.

Here's another voice chiming in with a "start fresh" approach. Even if I could gain a nice jump at the beginning because of previous saves, I wouldn't bother. GT4 has a whole new physics engine, so the more time I put into the licenses, the more I'll get used to it. Besides, the low starting credits is a big plus for me; it forces you to look into interesting, lower-powered cars that you wouldn't consider if you could just hop into say, a Viper. I know I would've missed out on the '82 Starlet (hm, there's a car I haven't seen on a list yet :() if that had been the case in GT2. I'm actually hoping we only get 15 or 20 thousand at the beginning of the game. There's so many first car possibilities...

But don't forget about the point system, Jedi. If you use a car with more power than the AI, you'll gain less points. But, how points will play a part in the game is anybody's guess. If it's just to compare with others, who cares? I don't. I want to have fun. Fun might mean using whatever car I want. Plus, I hope a race car with 300 HP wont give me less points if the AI cars I'm racing are slightly mod cars with 500 HP. I have the disadvantage, but will I be punished for using a race car? That doesn't sound like fun to me.

Solid, my point exactly. I like to have fun as well in Gran Turismo. Sometimes I just want the thrill of speed in whatever car I want to race. And if it means driving something that shouldn't be in the same leauge, then so be it, you dig?

One of the nice features about GT1 was that you could view the grid. Within this grid, you'd get the stats on the cars you're up against. Now how cool is that? You can know how much each car weighs, how much horsepower, the drivetrain of the cars, and all that. This will let you know what you're up against. You might step into a race and find a 200hp Honda Integra/Acura RSX as an opponent, but how do you know if you're overmatched if someone tuned that thing to 350hp or even 400+? If you ask me, I think GT4 should hark back to GT1 and bring up the stats on cars like in GT1. Maybe when you're selecting your pre-race options (Start Race, Settings, Options, etc.), you can stare for about a few seconds and you'll get some stats on the cars fade in and out. For example, if you entered an all-Japanese car race, you might be up against a Toyota Chaser, a Toyota Supra, a Nissan R34 Skyline, a Honda NSX, and maybe a Mazda RX-7. If you don't select "Start Race," stats for each of the cars (including yours) will sort of fade in. It would be in the order of horsepower and torque, weight, drivetrain, year (if given), car type (normal, tuned, or racing), and then go back and forth.

With the points thing, it would be tough to know what you're up against. And how do you know if you're overmatched or not? Just a thought...

Well, I'm not terribly worried about the points thing, since I'll be taking a more "challenging" approach to the racing, specifically choosing equal cars rather than powering my way through.

I would like to see the grid, though, just to know what kind of car to take out there. I felt like an overdressed idiot in one of those endurance races in GT3... tested and fine-tuned the 787B, then went to the race itself, and it was full of B-class cars. Needless to say, I quit and came back with a much slower car.

Starting off with a crap car is part of the fun :)
Yes, yes it is. So is using a car you won by getting all gold on a license test. So, both can be fun. Plus, buying a nice car, or several cars, from the start sounds like fun, too. There is so many ways you can start the game, but I don't think there is one way that is the most fun.

When you finally get the game, do what you feel like. That's why I can't really say how I'm going to start. But, if 100.000 grand is available to me at the start, I'm taking it. It doesn't mean I have to spend all of it at the start, does it?

I always remember the first five cars that I buy, it's just so much fun buying a cheap car and doing it up for each progressive race and saving up for better parts.

I can see your point, but the whole thing is kinda moot cause AI sucks, it sucks that to make things challenging you have to pick a slower car than the rest of the cars.
in future GT games i hope AI is even smarter than a good driver, that will make people realize that getting gold isn't as easy as GT makes it look, of course this would mean that they'd have to change the way you progress in the game, because if AI is competitive getting a third place would be quite an acomplishment, basicly, you would have to be able to finish the game just by being able to endure the whole thing, of course people that actually beat the AI would get more rewards.
but it just sucks how sometimes, even tough you start in 6th place all the time you can pass nearly all of them at the first corner... LAME.

I think I will start fresh too.

Assuming that there is no online play to lure me away, I plan on doing all licenses on Gold first, and getting a few cars this way, before I do my first race.

I'm eager to make it the perfect experience.

I don't like the GT3 save thing so much. It was fine doing that with GTC to GT3 because GTC came out a fair bit later. But a GT3 save giving 10 MILLION in GT4???? Talk about a head start...That's way too much way too early for way too many people.

I like the Prologue advantage though. Enough to get you started and give you a worthwhile reward for playing Prologue, but it still makes you do a few of the tests to get used to the new physics.

see, that's where you're wrong, cause the controls in the latest builds of GT4 are NOTHING like prologue, prologue physics, while different from GT3, aren't realistic at all.

Could you tell me about what's being said on the left of the tuning shop pics and what is being said by that pic of the skyline on the right. I see R1 is mentioned
http://img103.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img103&image=gtscan75fj.jpg
And I see there's some more info, if you can spot something very interesting, please tell :)

All it said is about purpose of chassis stiffening in general.

It said for sudden acceleration press R1 button (nos)
and it said there is a nos gauge to see whats left not used.

I certainly hope we won't see stupid visual effects like in NFS and the likes when you switch on the nitrous...

Here's a translation of the 3rd page (the one with the mechanic at the bottom right). If you want me to translate any other part of that page which I didn't do here, let me know and I can try. I haven't had Japanese lessons in years, so things maybe wrong, I'll leave it up to Oosacker to correct.
KSaiyu, could you translate what's written besides the Suzuki on scan 9 (lower left corner)?

I agree, i'm looking forward to spending a reeaaaalllyy long time searching around the used car menu's for something obscure that not many people would go for. In GT3 i choose a yellow beetle, wasn't the most powerful or best handling car available, couldv'e easily bought a Levin or MX-5, but in some strange way the car was ''funky'' and attracted me to buy it.

GT4 has a whole new physics engine, so the more time I put into the licenses, the more I'll get used to it.
I'll take the licenses however, there's still golds to get and everything after domestic A, getting these early will give me more time find a car. :)

About the suzuki -

Suzuki Sports Escudo Hill Climb Special - the monster machine that won succesive hill climb race victories.

The Race to the sky hill climb is held in New Zealand, and is comparable to America's Pikes peak hill climb. This machine displayed amazing speed in the event and won the championship two years in a row.

BTW, the guage that displays the nitrous left is the red one on the right of the tachometer.

Isn't that the brake pressure?

He's talking about the far right, beside the turbo guage. It's the one that looks like the fuel meter except it's red
I'm not so sure I'm looking at the right picture, and even if I am, I'm not picking up on the new gauge. Can you crop it and repost it?

Wow great scans!
This furthermore intensifies my agony to play GT4...

Only think that kinda made me a little dissapointed is that you can buy NOS... IMHO it could kill it, unless NOS can ONLY be used in "straight lines", only then it is ok..

BTW, I haven't been on these forums for a while, so I'm probably posting old stuff, but just in case:

Translated info from page 4

A new category and system give more depth to a race by enabling a race to be developed from various situations - They are the mission race and a score system, and they make for a more exciting race.

By the mission hall picture - You can enjoy a race once the situation has been decided (I'm guessing picking which one you want, as you can see in the pic), and you clear it once the conditions are met.

By the picture next to it (Rally track in it) - The score after you clear the event changes depending on the car you used. A higher score is given to someone using a more disadvantaged car.

Bonnet viewpoint has been added - They say it's easier to judge the cars width in this view than the other in-car view.

By the backfire pic - Just the other day, we found a new element. At the time of a downshift, a backfire was emitted from the muffler. From now on, will there be stronger ones?!

I left the photo mode since that is all covered in the FAQ at the top of this forum (there will be a photo drive and pro mode), and also the B-spec feature and explanation from Kaz as I think not many are interested in that.

I can't translate the first line fully, all I can make out is that you can only do photo drive here (the suburban spot).

Below it says you can go for a free run on any circuit with various other cars around you for 500 Cr.
