I thought it might be interesting to learn the opinions of others on this matter... The title is pretty self explanatory... What vocalists (rock, r&b, electronic, hip hop, 40's, 50's, 60's, etc, etc...) do you think have easily recognizable voices. Whether odd, or even just voicing their message in a way that sets them apart... Vote for 10 that you believe fit the criteria... This will run till December 25th, at which time the votes will be tallied and the top ten results will be posted...
I'll start us off...

1. Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle)
2. Layne Staley (Alice in Chains, Mad Season)
3. Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin)
4. Tom Waits
5. Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead)
6. Chino Moreno (Deftones)
7. Perry Farrell (Janes Addiction, Porno for Pyros)
8. David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)
9. Thom Yorke (Radiohead)
10. Louis Armstrong

;)

An easy one that most everyone can recognize is: Ozzy Osbourne, bland voice but easily recognizable. In the case of Tool/APC Keenan is very recognizable based on his style and creativeness, but to the mainstream audience, probably is'nt well known.

I didn't say anything about artists that are popular with a mainstream audience... Just list some vocalists that you believe have very distinct voices (and/or message)...

;)

Well I can´t remember some vocalist´s names so I´ll just name the bands in those cases.

Green Day´s vocalist
Robert Plant
Ozzy Osbourne
Bono Vox from U2
Ramone´s vocalist
James Hetfield from Metallica
Pearl Jam´s vocalist
Linkin Park´s vocalist, I think his name is Chester Benington. (not the rapper one)
AC/DC´s vocalists, both of them
Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden

There, it wasn´t so hard. :)

These are voices I would recognise a mile off. They are not neccessarily my favouritest vocalists, although some of them are.

Ozzy
Geddy Lee (Rush)
Brian Johnson (AC/DC)
Alice Cooper
Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
Andy Deris (Helloween)
Klaus Meine (Scorpions)
Blackie Lawless (WASP)
David Coverdale (Deep Purple, Whitesnake)
Axl Rose

I see what you meant, I'm just stating that to most people, he wouldn't be "recognizable" purely because not that many people know him. But then again you really have to have "known" something to recognize it :ouch:. But lets get back on track. I think Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam is very recognizable.

No particular order, and I don't even like half of these, but you can't deny that they're not recognisable:
1. Zak De La Rocha - Rage Against The Machine
2. Anthony Keidis - Chili Peppers
3. Freddy Mercury - Queen
4. Curt Cobain - Nirvanna (i was never a fan of Nirvanna and thought they were overated personally, but you can't deny on the huge impact they had in music and modern day music wouldn't be the same without them).
5. Perry Farrel - Janes Addiction
6. David Bowie
7. Jimmy Hendrix
8. Either Liam and Noel Gallagher (don't know which one, both look the same to me) - Oasis
9. Beegee - come on who else are you gonna mistake them for?!?!
10. Thom Yorke - Radiohead

The lead singers of System of a Down and Korn are pretty recongnizable. As it the lead singer of Nirvanna.
