I have been sim racing now for nine months, offline, and have really worked hard to achieve gold in all licience categories. It has been a real learning curve for me. I've discovered where all those milli- seconds were hiding.
I have managed all golds accept for the 1000 & the 400 wet. I have spent hours & hours & more hours and could not get down to 26.700. I,ve managed plenty 26.750 and once 26.716, I dont actually know how I came so close. My question is in GT5 which is still only a game, why do the powers that be make this challenge so damn difficult. In a racing game who needs to stop anyway.
I know the idea is to get there as fast as possible with enough time to stop just inside the first square being the shortest distance. If I've spent a 100 hours on this challenge alone I'm being conservative but I hate to give up now. I don't doubt that many of you more experienced drivers also found it difficult but have succeeded. I humbly ask for any advice from you guys as to how to tackle this baby. I'm racing with G27 wheel & PS3 on my rig and using only paddles.
Cheers! Happy racing to you all

I think a patch made one of those more difficult but kept the same target time.
I've seen videos on YouTube of people hitting the wall just right to stop faster but not disqualify.
I really have a hard time believing it's still possible post patch without doing some odd things.
Anyone do it legit after the patch?

I re-did it a early this year - not sure if it's pre or post "patch" (I haven't heard about a patch or anything about this) - the 1000m GTR stopping challenge and the la sarthe one with the skyline coupe were the hardest for me.

I did the 1000m one by going a little wide outside of the line, then tapped the e-brake to slide sideways onto the goal. This was the only way I could do it, I started to stop around (passing) the 4th or 5th lane separators. Damn hard but just try different methods.

I agree, this is one of the harder License tests (1000 meter stopping with the DB9 Coupe).:banghead:

I have a secondary game where I was only bronze, so I just now decided to try this again.

After about 20-25 runs I have taken the Gold with a time of 26.649:)

My setup:

Manual shifting
Active steering -- off
ABS -- off
Use the RA menu to set brakes:
Front brakes at 2
Rear brakes at 1

Shift from 1st gear into 2nd gear at about 50mph

Start braking when you see 138/139mph

Brake at about 75/80% pressure

Downshift gradually as you brake

You can tap the E-brake as you almost get to the Finish line, but not much before or your car will start to spin and seems to brake worse.

The above seemed to work for me. Try the License test with the above setup and see if its any better or worse.

When I first won Gold on this license 2 years ago, I used the E-brakes and used ABS=1 and let the car slide sideways just onto the Finish line, but now it seemed to be better without the E-brake and using ABS=0

Good luck!

For the wet braking, I'd suggest using the in-race tuning menu to turn down the braking strength both front and rear. You'll need to experiment to find out what the right amount of brake application is, but it won't be 100%. After I adjusted the braking strength, the right amount was about 80% for me. Before I did that, it was about 40%, and it was a little too touchy for me to hit it right.

The other thing that can help, if you're not already doing it, is to run in the exterior trailing view. Then you can see right away (instead of halfway down the track) if you lose time off the line. I can't drive anything where I need to steer from that view, but I can handle just starting and stopping.

@grashopper, I've done it legitimately after the patch.

I did the Nissan wet one with a DS3. It's possible.

It took me 100 tries. But definitely possible. Just don't give up and try and time everything. Use markings on the road, even brake at a certain time (like, start braking at 13 seconds maybe, or 13.1. Those are just random numbers but you see what I'm trying to say)

Thanks guys, I'll try methods as advised. I'm really glad to know that others have also found it difficult and its not just my poor skills.
Good driving to all.

I started over my game a couple of weeks ago, and the first thing I did was getting gold in all the licenses

Had some trouble in some, but managed to get gold in everyone.

If you need some help in how to get the timing right on the brakes search for "ROAD TO GT5" on youtube, I found these videos extremely helpful.

Hey guys, you're a great bunch with all the feedback I've received. I took your advice and ran with every thing off accept skid recovery, I couldn't believe my eyes when I got gold at my fifth attempt to-night 26.683. I tried it again and got to 26.633 and again 26.683. It seems that ABS is an absolute No No. I did not attempt any prior adjustment I just drove the cars as it was given. In fact I think all other 58 licence golds would have been less of a pain had I asked for advice a bit earlier. I just drove what was given as it was given. I will tackle the wet one tomorrow. I'm a young at heart 73, had my drivers licence since I was 18 years old and though I knew everything about driving, just shows that one is never to old to learn. Hope to be racing on line soon. Once again thank you all very much. Cheers for now!

Kudos! 👍 Capetonians rock! (I'm in Blouberg) Welcome to :gtpflag:

Just for the start & stop challenges if you just want to gold them use the ds3 controller & use the x/accelerate & 0/stop. I know its old fashioned but if you're just looking to nail gold & move on its the way to go.

I took some advice from jaywalker regarding the 400 wet challenge but instead of driving into the invisible barrier I drove into the concrete barrier next to the stopping area & I got gold at the first attempt. I was absolutely elated even if it's like stealing. I tried it again about 20 times to see if I could do it again, but not a chance. Every time I hit the barrier immediate disqualification. At one attempt I hit the barrier so fast that the car bounced off the surface and perfectly into the first square, Disqualified again. I don't know how the game let me get away with it the first time, but it did. May be there is a heart beating somewhere in the GT5 circuitry. Cheers for now!
