i might buy this car 👍

1983 celica supra

119,000 original miles

engine: 2.8-liter Double-Overhead-Cam (DOHC) inline 6-cylinder engine (the 5M-GE).

5-speed tranny

Looks a little rough, could be a money pit too.

Could be worth while as a project, i wouldn't want to use it as a daily driver though.

I had an '81 Supra - previous body style - with the same engine. It's notorious for cracking heads or blowing head gaskets. Find out if that's happened and been fixed, or what. Make sure it never overheats. Also, the rear disc brakes on mine were horribly engineered - the parking brake setup made it very hard to replace the pads.

119,000 miles isn't bad - I made 230,000 or so on mine - but I wouldn't pay more than about $400 to $500 for that car (mine looked better, that's for sure). And then I'd do it only if I saw no evidence of coolant leaks or water in the oil and/or exhaust.

That's the 5M-E, Duke. The 5M-GE is quite solid, those kind of problems are pretty uncommon.

It looks awful, have fun!

Actually, the stock engine was a 5-ME. After it cracked the second head, I ditched it and put in a 5M-GE. In fact it was easier to swap the whole engine than to tear off all the fuel injection plumbing, etc. to get the head off. I sold the car a year later but I had also taken the thermostat out to guarantee that it wouldn't overheat again.

Body looks rough but you can't forget the car is over 20 years old. Doesn't look like its damaged so a new paint job and cleaning would make the car look like new. 👍

I have an 82 but mine has a hellava lot more rust than that one.

If you want more info on what to look for when buying a MKII supra, go to celicasupra.com and read the forums.

I have the exact same car in red. I like it, only have driven it a few weeks. Mine had more miles, body in a lot better shape, and only one previous old lady owner who never abused it. Mine has also been garaged the past few years. Soon after buying it the thermastat and fan clutch went out, also the housing over the fan broke off and fell into the fan belt. I am just leaving that one off and I have already fixed the rest. Not to fast, but it is fun to drive and with a stick (like mine) it will be much better. Takes corners like a champ with a fairrly loose back end. I like also got mine with an LSD so I am happy. If it runs good have a mechanice look at it before you get it.

If I were you I'd look around junkyards or ebay for that fan shroud. It does a surprising amount to improve the efficiency of the fan's cooling. With early irn block / aluminum head engines like this, overheating is a deadly enemy.

thanxs for the feedback guys, he wants $1,000 or best offer and it comes with a parts car that is smashed in the back end but has a good motor & tranny, plus it has beter interior and all the moldings that are missing from this one.

i offered him $500 for both cars and he said he would think about it.

I think that's a good deal. For 2 cars I might go $600 but then you have to deal with having the hulk sitting around.

Ahhh it reminds me of the old Celica we had that I learned to drive in. I think it was a little newer though. But anyways $500 is a great deal for that car. It's rough but it doesn't look overly bad.

The good thing is that the insurence would be nothing on it and in 2 more years it would almost be free since it would be a classic car.

I got a buddy who has one of those, and he drives it daily. They are sweet looking cars. My childhood dream car. 👍 I liked the Celica/Supra that Duke is talking about, also.

I still have it my garge I wonder if I would be able to reattach it with glue or something. After examing it, it was broken once before and glued on again.
