2.02 Chase Camera Change - Now Dynamic

Unfortunately, I may have to stop playing GT5 now, because the chase cam made me motion sick yesterday. They just took my favorite game and broke it for me. Thanks!!!!👎

I sure hope you people don't play FPS. You might die from motion sickness.

so it goes from bad to worse, we never asked for this. Btw the new camera is nothing what so ever like forza, the camera shouldn't pitch and roll with the car body.

On the green hell it was almost felt like flying through the trees :S

It should feel like your controlling the car, not the camera. This isn't a first person shooter.

its part of the update as ive never come across this before?

feels like im on a boat.
i use the chase cam but i hate this one , like jason said it seems that im in a boat 👎

That's what it feels like for me too! :dopey:

But seriously, I can't judge a corner with this camera now. :grumpy:

Agreed. It's a horribly implemented feature that no one wanted.

Again, PD doing their own thing instead of actually trying to improve the game.

I wonder if this new chase cam has any use as a tuning aid... I don't use chase view very often, but I decided to try it and see what all the fuss is about the new version of this chase camera..

Here's what it seems is being done... Attach a long invisible pole to the back of the car, pointing up and behind the Car, add a camera on a 'steady cam' type of thing... It seems to me, that if the car rolls, or weight transfers forward or back, the chase came reflects the car's attitude. Of course it's also seemingly stabilized to some degree ( like a steady cam device might do ).

So, if the movement of this chase came actually does reflect the car's attitude , maybe we could potentially stiffen things up a bit by changing suspension settings on the car and/or see more easily what the car is doing in terms of how much it rolls in corners and such.

Either way... Um... I get nauseous while watching that new version of the chase cam... It really would be nice to be able to revert back to the old style , at will... Now, since I don't use this view often, it's not a really big deal to me.

Having said that.... I started seeing similar behavior with the other views... Bumper and Roof cam to be more specific... I'm not sure if it was my imagination, or my stomach rolling over after I had tried the chase cam... Has anyone else noticed changes in the way the other views work?

It is incredible to see someone actually complain about the new chase cam :-) . I think it is great and much more realistic, and I am certain most of you will grow to like it.

Hm, why are you that positive in swallowing that everybody else will eventually come to like the chase cam? That pursuing view is rather unbecoming for me to be adopted in the game as the most realistic one which deserves one of the features of a real driving simulator supposed to be more realistic than any other game, or as being agreeable with my preference... PD fails to grasp the meaning of "reality" at the point that they bann us from using a cam based on how the driver is looking during a race.

What is going on with the Chase Cam? It makes me dizzy every time I drive any of my cars. This is suppose to be "The Real Driving Simulator" and now it feels like an arcade game! I wish there was a way to turn it off but there's not. I know some of you are going to say, "well your not a very good driver if you use chase cam all the time." I'm not saying im a good driver, nor am I saying I'm a bad one. This game is suppose to be fun and now I have to struggle to keep the car on the road. I'm probably not the only one but this is just a little too far with the changes. It feels like a roller coaster. Please PD, fix this! Is anyone else happy with this? I'd like your input.

It would have been a sudden and winding option for those who were away from the series of Gran Turismo for a long time, being able to choose only one angle sounds like a prevailing feature in other racing games such as the Ridge racer, but well degrading for a distinguished driving simulator. :(

One of PD's great flaws. They believe that the majority = everyone it seems. Or maybe that the loudest shout is the only one that matters. I've not updated GT5 yet, but seeing as chase cam was fine before, I'm not looking forward to the new one. Hopefully the lack of choice will be fixed ASAP. The common sense way to implement this would have been to through the options (like in older GT games). Options should be the default for everything really.

Finally got to try this out and wow!! thats gona take some time to get used to it, i really wished PD had put an option where we could chose to turn it off.

Chase cam is a welcome change. Makes racing more exciting & dynamic in this view. Polyphony Digital should have included it as an option though, that way everyone is happy and the complaining will stop.

Hey, just played a little more last night and you guys are right, on smooth tracks the cam is cool and I actually like it but the bumpy tracks definitely need the 'off' option.

I figured id update on my thoughts of the camera movement

Good: i kind of like the tilt at daytona, it makes taking a line easier
kinda cool if you are going slow and not trying to win

Bad: sucks with drifting so bad
really bad at elevation changes (aka the corkscrew)
constant glitching at sharp turns, and RIDICULOUS glitching on a spin
going off road and flipping a car are now completely sickening
makes it harder to notice a slight kick of the back outwards
after 15 minutes i still get sick every time

So i continue to progress to only cockpit/bumper/hood camera as i was anyways, though i was a long time chase camera user, and i still enjoyed using it to drift more extremely

Looks like im going to have to get a wheel for christmas after all.

Looks like im going to have to get a wheel for christmas after all.

Good call! The wheel feels odd when using Chase View... I never liked using that view with the wheel... It takes the edge off of bumper cam if you use the wheel.

I have lost tons of time because of this! The sharp corner glitch causes me to hit the wall almost every time... I myself think I am giving up using the DS3 now, which means I wont play it half as much as I used to....

The biggest issue is that I dont feel like setting up the wheel every time I want to play but I guess I have to now if I want to play...

And I guess I am one of the consistent complainers that the other guy above wishes would stop... Oh well, how about next update when PD updates all the other views causing us all to have to relearn the game... Then we will attack you that you need to quit complaining and move on...

While they are at it, lets get rid of DS3 support and also get rid of the low dollar wheels requiring you to have a G25/27 with a clutch to drive a manual transmission with no other choices or settings... I mean that would make it more "realistic" and more "simulator like"... Lets keep these updates going now!!!! :grumpy:

I just noticed it after reading this thread and honestly it's not too bad. I was on Daytona doing that Stripes and Banners or w/e seasonal and I got pretty dizzy on the turns lol. I'll get used to it, no biggy

After doing some more races I'm actually liking this cam.. it adds a bit of a juice to this game and it doesn't look so "dry" anymore when you're going over bumps n curbs.

+1000

It's cool sometimes, but on places like the Nurburgring it makes my eyes hurt with all the constant re-adjusting...I thought there was something wrong with my TV or the PS3 was skipping or something at first

I hate the new chase cam; I don't want to get a headache every time a play GT5! I need the chase cam so I can see other cars around me in races.

Set your map scale to 1 or 2. That is the better way to see the cars around you ;)

I am not supporting this view at all!!! I dont want the headaches myself (playing 30 minutes last night gave me one)... I dont often speak out about things that annoy me but this ticked me off! I have supported everything that PD has done over the years and forgive many things... Until this is fixed my game is practically useless to me. So much for being a daily player....

Yea C-ZETA pointed this out yesterday and I noticed it as well last night. It seems as though going into corners either left or right, you get a slight "teleport" of the car in either direction. Like it skips a frame while you make the turn. It does get quite annoying after awhile, but I am learning to live with it. I like the camera overall though, adds an intense feeling to me.

I am hoping it gets polished up AND they give us the option to turn this "dynamic camera" on or off with the next update.👍

I have always used the chase cam, i prefer it to all the other views, just my personnel preference, and i have to agree i dont like this new chase cam movement, i think the best resolve would be to have a on/off option.

Yes, they can leave the new dynamic camera for the people who want it, but they should allow you to turn it on and off.

Has pd actually come out and said what they have done with this camera?

Are they even acknowledging that something changed?

I don't remember it being in the list of 2.02 changes...

After watching the vid on page 4, I`ve just done a lap of nordy with chase cam & cannot see what all the fuss is about, as I can`t see the `frame glitches` or anything to make me feel `seasick`.

Maybe it`s because I don`t normally use chase cam that I can`t see the problem.

Maybe it`s PDs way of getting everyone to use cockpit view, as they`re probably annoyed about getting the premium interiors spot on, then finding out that most people don`t even use cockpit mode, so don`t see them to appreciate.

The dynamics of the chase cam completely go against reality. The camera is not attached to the car, so it should not be bouncing and tilting the way it does. It feels like someone is shaking my TV. WTH were they thinking with this? I can't imagine trying to do the 'Ring like this.

In the other views it makes perfect sense and the added motion is great.

When was a chase cam ever attached to the car? :odd: Believe me on this part, there are much worse tracks then Nurburgring with this feature.

The chase can makes me especially queasy when on the Mulsanne Straight on Sarthe, just because of how incredibly bumpy the road surface seems to be.
