2.06 and G27 Wheel

I'm not using a G25/G27 but the T500RS. For me the new changes in the FFB affects (not effects) some of the improvement that I felt came with the 2.04 update. For example, how much more rubbery (as in pneumatic trail) the steering felt and the reduction in the centre spring resistance which resulted in a more realistic feel to each car. The problem prior to 2.04 patch and to some degree this patch as well, is that the increased FFB is nothing more than a much stronger centre spring.

If there's an improvement, for me it would be how FF (front driven) cars feel. Unlike the 2.04 patch which took a lot of weight out of the steering, this patch put them back on. And still manages to keep the improvement from the 2.04 patch like, for example, how the steering becomes lighter when the car's understeering (a common trait of FF cars).

A few odd things I found- at Tsukuba, just right after Turn 7, there's always been a noticeable bump slightly on the right side of the track. With this update the bump is gone from the FFB although you still see it's effect in the car's suspension in the replay. The kerbs, however, feel stronger than it was post 2.04. Also "G-force" especially regarding compression eg.Quiddelbacher Höhe @ Nordschleife also feels stronger than it was prior to this update.

I might try and lower the FFB setting on the T500RS which right now (as it's always been) dialed to 10. Hopefully that would reduce the centre spring resistance and gives me that rubbery feel that I love from 2.04. Right now, some cars (like the McLaren F1) feels too much like GT4 which gives me the impression of simply turning the wheel as oppose to applying weight to the steering like in a real car. Oh, well if all else fails there's always Assetto Corsa at end of the year.

For clarification- with the T500RS, I actually prefer the 2.04 update than pre-2.04 especially with FR, MR and few AWD cars. Not so much with FF which as I've mentioned lost a lof of steering weight.

The strength or the weight don't bother me, i understand that some people like it more heavy then others, but today almost all road and race cars have power steering so i don't understand why some people think its better to have a lot of weight in the steering wheel, old cars, formula GT and go karts ok, but the most of the other cars i don't understand.

I think it's not so much the weight of the steering than it is the level/magnitude of the FFB effects.

My G27 becomes more loose when front tires lost grip, very helpfull.
Wheel heavier the rest of time, more predictable.

Yeah mate, definately try turning the ff down,as i found with my fanatec, turning it down kept the same detail in the ff,but lowered the centre spring.
It could possibly just be the 911 turbo s,but it's worth a shot.

Seeing that i just recently returned to playing GT5 i cant really add to saying there was improvement. It does feel a little better but there isnt much feeling when going over the curbs anywhere. Let alone a sound of hitting the curbs. I think there used to be a sound made from hitting the curbs

Compared to the same tracks on iRacing/rFactor, granted we got some feeling back. But there's a lot missing, even if you go to the Nordshleife! Pre 2.04 you could feel acceptable levels of FFB on that track, you hit a curb now and you feel a slight bump if anything and keep in mind this curbs are taller than 12 inches in some spots!

Erm, they're a foot tall? Wow, I didn't realise they were taller than the ground clearance of more than a few F1 cars... sorry to joke about it, seriously, did you mean milimetres?

I don't believe all the kerbs on the Nordschleife is high and certainly not 12" tall. If you look at the record attempts done by car manufacturers, a lof the drivers use most of the track including riding the kerbs on exit with very little effect on the steering eg. Aremberg and right after the ascent to Adenauer-Forst.

Being that driver means knowing exactly what kerb to hit and what kerb to miss.

I hope they really update the kerb judder to much much stronger. Now they nearly all of them feel flat but speakers still give deep bass sound which would mean driver should feel that violent also via wheel. Rest of feedback is good but I have use setting 10 now.

And I am using Turbo S wheel.(G25 FFB)

The most simple way to put this is I feel more connected with the car (I'd notice, I've always used FFB 10 with no power assist)!👍

Also, TRY THE NEW RALLY PHYSICS! I was hot lapping a new rally track for hours the day before the update and the day after, while I can't accurately describe it I'll say it feels much smoother and less hard clacking/kicking in the wheel. I've only tried dirt so far (I'm about to try snow in a few minutes) and my FF cars especially felt worlds apart, I used to spin the wheel and floor it. The wheel would go dead but the car would just whip around the corner, tried it again and went straight into a wall! Driving some hot rod tail-happy muscle cars on the same track I noticed drifts were more controllable while understeer was more realistic. Then there's 4WD, instead of these "magical perfect slides" I'd get before, my Audi S4 greeted me with snap-back understeer mostly, drifts were now more realistic with either the tail going way out or the front grabbing too much and snapping out of it. In real life I off-road dirt bikes, 4-wheelers, and trucks at high speeds (flatland mud/snow stuff, not rock crawling or rough trails so it's rather similar to rally); I've been doing it since I was 9, I know what dirt and snow are like and GT5 has stepped up its game in this department. I think anyone formerly disappointed in rallying with a wheel might enjoy it a little more, not perfect but certainly better!

First cars I took out on tarmac were a pair of Cobras I wanted to test (before reading FFB had changed in 2.06), one stock and another modeled after a friend's kit car. I noticed I could actually feel the understeer in the stock Cobra and felt significantly more connected to the road. The kit car replica had rapid lift-off oversteer that I'd never really felt before. My next go was in my stock Lancia Stratos road car, I could handle the car reasonably well before (no one can ever truly master that car haha) and now it communicated its tail-out intentions far better and I found myself enjoying it much more! I didn't know it was possible, but Polyphony Digital has made me fall even more in love with the Stratos!:sly: Now I'm going back and trying all those old classic cars again and I know I'm going to like each one even better! I can't wait to try that E-Type!

G25, my wheel is reacting with far more "APM; actions per minute" than ever before, this is always the step in the right direction. Turn ins are smoother than before, brakes seem more sensitive on ABS@1 than before, throttle, a bit too sensitive still, with that very little spot that battles understeer/traction.. they need to work on that a bit more.

overall, I rate it a 9.1/10 with room for throttle improvement,

I haven't yet tried the H-shifter, I was never fond of it with it's stuck in N moments, that is unnacceptable.

and yes ^ definitely loading up a rally event tonight.

I'm absolutely loving the new FFB, a step in the right direction 👍

Now all they need to do is fix the clutch/manual gearchanges, and I'm happy :)
