It's all under the Save Game utility. There is another location as well, but I forget what it is called. It does contain information as to what games are installed and you're able to delete that data as well.

wait, so if an installed game is not spose to show up in the XMB games list, how do i tell what games i have installed? like arent there other games that ask you to atleast do partial HD installs?

and is there a way to perform uninstalls of games then?
On the XMB in the Games section go up. You will see Save Data Utility (PS3 game saves), Memory Card Utility (Emulated PS1 and PS2 memory cards), and finally Game Data Utility.

Game Data Utility will show you what installed from disc game data you have.

Currently mine shows:
GT5P
Warhawk
Rock Band
Resistance

The manual page:
http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/game/game.html

And to uninstall it you just delete it.

(im actually a bit new to the PS3, i hav had it for a while but its gotten used more as a PS2 until GT5P came out. and even now we are knee deep in a home remodel so i havent really had the time to be on it.)
I definitely suggest you check out the whole manual. Many people miss some of the finer details if they are treating it casually.

also i dont know anyone else locally with a ps3 so i just assumed that the GT5P install and running with out the disk was because, technically, it was just a demo game.
You do have a proper purchased copy, right?

This is all just weird.

I think he has been playing the Japanese demo of GT5:P and he thinks its GT5:P?

It all sounds very weird. I've never heard of anything similar happening before. It's like his PS3 hacked itself!

Has Polyphony Digital released any sort of hint or a time frame regarding when we will see a patch for GT5:P?

ive got both, the japanese demo of GT5P that was released a while back (on bluray disk) and the oficial GT5P (on bluray disk), both are REAL bluray game disks. both asked me to install when i first put them in the ps3. niether required the disk after that point. in the 'games' section of the XMB i had icons for both and i could fire up and play iether no matter what was in the bluray drive.

i will check and see what it shows is installed this evening. this all really wierd, im gunna fire off an e-mail to dark-alex and see if he knows anything about it. it feals a bit like im going crazy.

yeah i think he means the Demo of the PSN for GT5P on the JPN Store, i still got mine saved on the HDD that dont require a disc to play it and neither does GTHD if thats what he means either? All confusing really he needs to explain lol

As in the custom firmware Dark-Alex?

If you were using custom firmware and then switched to official 2.40 that would likely explain a lot.

theres no ps3 custom firmwares yet. but i figured if anyone on the net had heard of this hapening he would be the guy to ask.

i had GTHD and Motostorm demos that disapeared too. actually if u read my posts from the begining they dont seem confusing to me. what do you want me to explain?

to recap i was playing the real oficial bluray version of GT5P from my hard drive, no disk in the ps3. it was hapening, i promise.

not one of the 5 diferent gt demos, and not the download version of GT5P.

i did not do any fancy copying of the game to a HD, i just let the game installer run, after that there was an icon for it in my XMB in the games section. it would start the game, disk or no disk in the drive.

im being dead serious about this. it worked as stated until the 2.40 update.

so you can play GT5P on your PS3 with no disc in and not using the PSN version of it? Okay still dont understand, Did you mean you took the disc out while playing? It dont make sence my friend?

i ddi not take the disk out while the game was running. i could literally be holding the bluray game disk for GT5P in my hand, turn the PS3 on, browse to the game menu, select the icon for GT5P and start playing the game while still holding the game in my hand. (or with the game still sitting on the shelf, the key being it was NOT in the PS3)

my first post on this subject was asking if the 2.40 update had deleted anyone elses game icon and made it so they had to use the disk to start the game.

showing that i had no idea that everyone already had to insert the game disk to play the game. looking through info online it does not apear that my system is a TEST console or anything like that.

i guess all this is moot since the 2.40 update disabled and or removed or 'fixed' whatever bug was alloying this too happen.

well what your desribing is new news to us, If this feature was available PD would have even said so themselves and even GTP would have said something, did you have to go to the Game Data Installs then go to Information and would it be there to select?

i really didnt hink about it being a feature, like i was saying i just thought it was normally and figured it was like that because technically GT5P is only a demo of a unreleased game.

and no, i didnt have to go anywhere other then to the main "games" section. you know how when u download a game demo off of PSN the game icon shows up in the main "games" screen (please tell me atleast that is normal?). it was just like that, the icon was always there even if any other disk was in the ps3, and it was always playable even if there was any other disk in the ps3. (or no disk at all)

anyways ive been firing off emails to ps3 hackers, maybe i can be of some use to them, even though it seems that its gone do to the new update, tonight if i have a chance i will poke around and get the info out of the game data area, see what is showing up in there etc.

so ive been messing with it a bit more and i still dont have the ability to start the game with no disk, but if i put the disk in, click on it and as soon as i click on it i can eject the disk and the game still runs fine. can somone try doing that and let me know if it works.

thanx

That is definitely very odd. It sounds like a major glitch, can you somehow post a video of it happening or something? :)

I really don't know how you people play without the Bluray Disc. In fact, if I don't enter a game's Bluray Disc, the game even doesn't appear on the game list that I've on my XMB.

so then really its not that big of a deal, and mine having a icon of the game in the XMB even when it was in must hav just been some random bug in the games installer that the 2.40 firmware fixed. unfortunately.
