OK, I remember seeing this on an episode of 5th Gear a little while back. The challenge was to create a 200 mph car for the least amount of money possible. I believe they tried a Lotus Esprit and spent about £30000 on it but failed to get the speed.

Rules

Buy any new or used car (car must be brought and not won)
Buy any performance upgrades you want. (EXCEPT NOS)
Tune and adjust settings.
Try the car on the test track and see if you can reach 200mph/322km/h.
If you can reach the required speed make a note of the total amount spent (add together cost of car, upgrades, oil, etc..)
Post how much you spent on here with what you spent the money on.

The person who spends the least and manages to reach 200mph is the winner!!!

You are allowed as many tries as you want.

See what you can do for now, I'll get my entry in when i have time.

Leaderboard

1st jammyozzy 38,000cr (Details)
2nd FastEddie12 45,374cr (Details)

That's because they bought a pup with a knackered gearbox and instead of spending £5,000 on a new 'box they kept spending £3,000 to have it rebuilt on the cheap.

Anyway, I digress... Nice idea :D

You going to put up a leaderboard in the first post?

Nice idea, Neilski!

Soon as I get my memory card, i'm going to get a 1993 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo and tune it with the settings adjusted towards maximum speed. That should work.

Actually, I think I should keep this to myself.

I hope no-one cheats though. I'm looking forward to seeing the leaderboard.

this is a good idea
but i have a doubt....i got 521 kph (i think) with my Minolta Toyota, when i go to tur the units to mph it says like 312 mph.
^WTF^

I don't get what the problem is here.

Other than the fact that 521km/h isn't 312mph - but you only think you got 521km/h.

But you say you "think" you got 521km/h, and the game shows "like" 312mph.

It's hard to tell whether there's a conversion error or you just can't remember the numbers right. Go and check.

First entry:

Nissan 300ZX (2 seater) (Z-32) '89:
C13,824
Oil Change:
C50
Fully customised transmission:
C10,400
NOs:
C5,000
Total:
C29,274

For a top speed of 200.83mph

Nice low one to shoot at, I think...

I think possibly that NOS ought to be ruled out of this, otherwise you're looking at a NOSed FIAT 500R breaking 200mph for sod all cash.

True, this should be about the cars own power and tuning, not a bottle of compressed gas making it go faster.

I agree. (The NOS bit, not the 200mph Fiat 500 bit!)

I also think the run should have to be made at the top speed run section. When 200mph pops up on the speedo, all it means is that you've passed 199.5mph, not that you've passed 200mph. The top speed run gives you an exact number.

I think that the No NOs rule is a good one: that run of mine was supposed to be a test run to see where I was. No NOs makes sense...:odd:

I think you'd have to do a bit more than NOs a Fiat 500 to get 200 mph out of it though:)

cmon why did this get moved?? Its not a race or lap time comparison!! THe 300mph thread didnt get moved so why should this?

I almost got one to 200.. but I dont think a few people can beat my honda oddeesey record of 200.27:lol:

The 300 mph thread is a discussion of getting cars over the three hundred mark. You've set rules, hence it becomes a spot race.

That is why it gets moved.

Should you move this again, It'll get deleted, and you'll amass a warning not to do it again.

Don't take that stuff the wrong way Neilski, just think of it as your Mum tidying things away so you can't find them...:D

Ok, to business:

Nissan 300ZX 2 str (Z32) '89:
C13,824

For a run of 200.04 mph (phew!):

Oil Change:
C50
Stage II turbo:
C13,700
Large Intercooler:
C3,000
Semi-racing exhaust:
C2,900
Chip:
C1,500
Fully customised transmission:
C10,400
Total:
C45,374

That should give us a bit more scope. I should also point out that this car is red. And everyone knows that red cars are faster... :sly:

Is this competition only for Gran Turismo 4? I'm asking because it has been moved.
Yes, this is a GT4 challenge.

I know this sounds sooooo stupid, but.... is... the Super Secret Supra SZ in the game or is it just a name for your own supra?:nervous: :ouch:
IF ITS IN THE GAME I WANT IT NOW!
Im embarassed...

Supralover20, i've checked www.google.com and it came up with nothing. However, it's not on the Gran Turismo 4 official car list either. So i'm presuming that it's not real. If you're looking for a Toyota Supra SZ-R or a Toyota Supra RZ then yes, those do exist.

Just wondering, are we allowed to drive backwards through the Test Course? I'm assuming that the answer is no but am seeking clarification.

At this speed it will make almost no difference. Hardly worth the trouble.

Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport (C4) '96 - 22,950cr

Oil Change - 50cr

Supercharger - 13,500cr

Racing Chip* - 1,500cr

Total - 38,000cr and 202mph. :D

*I got to 199.33mph without the Racing Chip, so it's probably possible without it. I'll have a go later, but I don't have at the moment.

 Hot dang, nice one!

I was looking for that car, cos I knew it would not need the tranny! Back to the drawing board!:ouch:

Edit: Ok, I have the answer: the bar is being lowered!:trouble:

TVR Griffith 500: C20,555
Oil Change: C50
NA Stage II tune: C13,500

And that's it!

Total:C34,105 for 203.12mph! tried with less power but could not quite make the magic 200!:banghead:

OK now that I see that I need to look more:(, here is my car.

$31,870..HPA Motorsports Stage 2 R32 '04
$10,500..Full Customize Transmission
$1,200...Stage 1 Weight Reduction

Well I guess I need to go and look at the used car lot(start to drive thier in 960HP Viper:)).
Also my speed was 200.75MPH.

It's OK, I don't mind. :p I was looking at a Griffith, but I thought the Corvette had more potential. Beller luck next time I guess. :dunce:
