With yesterday marking the first game in the First Round, following 6 prequalifying rounds amongst the non-league teams, it's the perfect opportunity to start a thread on it...

124 clubs remain (from 687) at this point, with the top 44 League Clubs (all of the Premiership and Championship) not joining the fray until the Third Round - but the First Round heralds the entrance of the other 48 League Clubs.

Edit: 84 clubs remain at the start of round 2 - the top 44 League Clubs and the remaining 40 Qualifiers.

Edit: And now the big guns have arrived for round 3 - 64 teams remain, with 44 being the Premiership and Championship sides and the rest of the league structure has been whittled down to just 20 survivors...

Edit: Round 3 is complete, with 7 Premiership sides and 11 Championship sides knocked out thus far - including the holders...

Edit: Round 4 has been drawn, and we're guaranteed to lose at least another 3 Premiership teams in this round - pending replays.

Edit: Round 4 has kicked off... 2 Premiership sides down and 7 Championship teams gone already, with 3 ties from 16 left to be decided...

Edit: Round 5 drawn - and at least one Championship side is guaranteed a place in the last 8...

Discuss!

Round 3 has been drawn, pitting the big boys against the remaining minnows...

Liverpool v Arsenal is certainly the pick of the bunch...

Personally...I'm worried we (Ipswich Town) will still fluff it against Bury Town/Chester City despite being happy we've been drawn against lower league opposition after our 3-1 and 1-0 exits to Bolton and Portsmouth over the last 2 seasons. Got a laugh out of a Norwich fan that comes on a message board for Ipswich, they say if they lose to Tamworth they'll never show their face on there again.

Also good to see some Premiership ties, might give the lesser clubs a chance like anotehr Millwall/Man U final of small v big

liverpool match postponed

D'OH!

arsenal are likely to have henry back by the time we play again

Man U tomorrow, that should be a walk in the park. Then you have games like the Sheffiel United one which should be even easier, but you see the little teams stepping up thier game time and time again. When a lesser team get's drawn against a big club it's like their cup final for them.

Well as I was almost expecting, it wasn't a walk in the park, but we won 2-1 with second half goals form Larsson and Solskjaer.

No one has mentioned the Liverpool Arsenal game?

I thought it was a cracker. Great win for the Gunners and two great goals from Rosicky. Shame Henry stole his limelight!

I thought Liverpool played the wrong type of game in that match. Peter Crouch was useless as always and Bellamy should have come on instead of spending the entire second half warming up. Henry's goal was the worst of the match, he created the shooting opportunity well but the shot wasn't up to his usual high standard. Arsenal well deserved the win.

What a result for the Tricky Trees, first comfortably beating Charlton then drawing Chelsea away in the 4th round.

We've got nothing to lose and with Tysons pace we could (unlikely) cause an upset, maybe drawing at their place.

Reading and Barnet cleared the warthogs and their rearranged matches went ahead last night - both home wins. Just need the remaining replays cleared up to complete the 4th round line-up.

Forest are live on BBC1 on Sunday the 28th against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with kick off at 2:00PM.

Teeeheeee.

Newcastle 1 Birmingham 5

What one of them is the team in the lower division?

I know, it must be painful to be a Newcastle supporter. I actually like Newcastle, mainly because I have a Geordi connection and a lot of Geordie friends, but they are such big underperformers it'salmost a comdey.

I hate Newcastle United with a fervour. So I'm laughing quite heartily.

A neutral must've wondered which of the two was the Premiership team, servers Glenn right for putting a bunch of untried youths into the team.

He's missing a few key plaers as well though, like Damien Duff and Owen still isn't due back for a couple of months at least. That said, Newcastle won't get anywhere with Roeder in charge, he's not good enough. He's a decent man in the sense that you don't hear him making excuses, or complaining about the terrible luck he's had with injuries, but he's just not good enough at the tactics and/or motivating the players. Newcastle are a decent side on paper they just can't pull it off on the pitch.

Credit to Portsmouth, they played an attacking game, hey didn't sit back and hope for a good break away. It should however have been 4-1, not 2-1, sometimes I wonder what the lines mans job actually is. If he can't see if the ball is over the line, what exactley is he looking at. What is he meant to be looking at. The other goal that wasn't a goal because it was "off side" is something that's also annoying, he was clearly level with the defender when the ball was played. Decisions like that happen very often, what is the lines man looking at for him to call a clearly on side move, off side. The quality of refereeing has dropped so much it's not funny. And the refs all seem to have huge ego's these days too. Overall though, 2 Rooney goals, he hasn't been playing that well recently, but he got 2 good goals today. And the look on David James face after the second goal was priceless.

It's another call for goalline tech unfortunantely, they said in the commentary that you can't always rely on cameras...well...if a camera in the goal post can't see a ball cross the line in an example such as the first "goal" against Pompey...what the hell can't?

All they need is someone up in a room watching goal-post/crossbar mounted cameras with a comm to the ref/linesmen and as soon as a goal goes over the line that isn't flagged offside shout "goal" into the earpieces, job done and it can't really be any simpler can it?

Too many examples of this happening lately, there was another in Ipswich v Colchester, Clarke scored (ball was even further over the line then Man Utd's and it was cleared in a similar manor), some players celebrated and Colchester broke and scored (with the scorer having been offside in the first place too)

edit - I hope Norwich beat Blackpool...so Chelsea can thump them in the 5th Round.

The draw has been made.

Chelsea v Blackpool or Norwich
Watford v Ipswich
Preston v Man City
Plymouth v Derby County
Man Utd v Reading
Arsenal or Bolton v Blackburn
Bristol City or Middlesbrough v West Bromwich Albion
Fulham v Tottenham

Bad draw to be honest...the big 3 all at home and not facing each other...it needs big teams to face each other and knock one another out so the smaller teams have a chance, eh...just etch Man Ure or Chelski's name on it and have done with it...

Watford 1 - 0 Ipswich...I feel sick and heartbroken...for 88 minutes and even 40 of those being a man down Ipswich were by far the best side, we looked like the Premiership side and the very least we deserved a replay...absolutely gutted...

Arsenal were held to a 0-0 draw, Man U were held to a 1-1 draw. I would feel bad about it but it wasn't a good game and despite an onside goal being dissalowed for being offside (is it just me of is that happening far more often this season than last overall) Readings keeper make a superb save late on and that clinched it for me that Reading deserved to get the replay. Fantastic goal by Carrick btw.

It's definitely happening a lot, happened in our match against Watford. Hardings shot came off the crossbar to a level Danny Haynes who planted it into a net. But yet again, officials made a bad game changing mistake.

Man U won 1-0, Middlesborough frustrated us but they were out played. The vast majority of the match was attack and defence with Middlesborough being pressed back, they only made a couple of notable breaks all game. Though viduka narrowly missed early on and if it was a foot or so to the side it wouldn't have been saved. Ronaldo scored a penalty after Woodgate took him down in the box. It was a bit unfotunate for Woodate because hed had a good game, it was a penalty no doubt about it, but to me it looked like he slipped and he just went into the side of Ronaldos leg, not much he could have done about it. So it's Watford v Man U in the semi-final. Also chelsea beat Tottenham who must be gutted for not sinking Chelsea in the last game, Schevzenko scored a peach of a goal. So it's Blackburn v Chelsea.
