Silverstone
Silverstone marks the first of the run of faster circuits on the calendar, and is one of the more historical Grands Prix of the year.
The circuit itself is divided up into three very distinct sectors. The first sector, which runs from the Start/Finish line down to the Hangar Straight, is very fast and requires a lot from the aerodynamics of the car, and precision from the driver.
The second sector runs from Stowe, and just past Bridge. It is another fast sector, but it’s broken up by a few chicanes.
The final sector is very different from the rest of the circuit, as it is much slower, and at Luffield it really is an exercise of staying tucked in as tight as possible until you can open the throttle for the run to Woodcote, and the Start/Finish line.
Championship
After the Monaco race, Alonso has almost secured the 2006 championship. If it is a Schumacher–Alonso 1–2 for the rest of the season, Schumacher will only move into first position after the final race – and that would only be by a point. This would give Schumacher 13 wins, and Alono only four. If nothing else it shows the stupidity of the current point system.
Given the amazing pace and reliability of the combination of Renault and Alonso, you’d have to be a very brave person to bet against them winning the drivers championship. I can easily seeing the combo putting together a few more wins before the season is out, and I don’t see a whole lot of bad luck coming their way.
