Silverstone

Silverstone marks the first of the run of faster circuits on the calendar, and is one of the more historical Grands Prix of the year.

The circuit itself is divided up into three very distinct sectors. The first sector, which runs from the Start/Finish line down to the Hangar Straight, is very fast and requires a lot from the aerodynamics of the car, and precision from the driver.

The second sector runs from Stowe, and just past Bridge. It is another fast sector, but it’s broken up by a few chicanes.

The final sector is very different from the rest of the circuit, as it is much slower, and at Luffield it really is an exercise of staying tucked in as tight as possible until you can open the throttle for the run to Woodcote, and the Start/Finish line.

Championship

After the Monaco race, Alonso has almost secured the 2006 championship. If it is a Schumacher–Alonso 1–2 for the rest of the season, Schumacher will only move into first position after the final race – and that would only be by a point. This would give Schumacher 13 wins, and Alono only four. If nothing else it shows the stupidity of the current point system.

Given the amazing pace and reliability of the combination of Renault and Alonso, you’d have to be a very brave person to bet against them winning the drivers championship. I can easily seeing the combo putting together a few more wins before the season is out, and I don’t see a whole lot of bad luck coming their way.

Interesting about the points situation. This should be a good battle between Renault and Ferrari during the race even if the championship is no longer a good battle.

CBS again :( Should still be a good race though :)

Looking forward to the race, I was having withdrawl simptoms over the weekend.

I'm tipping Alonso to win again, can't really bet against him unfortunately.

Hopefully williams cosworth will make a showing at their home race.

Yeah, I'm hoping Webber can get a result out of this one, Kimi too. Hopefully their luck will change soon.

Looking forward to the race . . . just wanted to mention a little something regarding qualifying. Practice airs on Friday morning at 8 AM Central Time, but qualifying will be shown at 6:30 AM the following day due to World Cup events.

Thankfully, this is the 4th and final race that CBS will carry this season. Here's hoping Sullivan is back in the booth for Daly.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday I will be there :D I'll get some pics from each day for you guys.

My bet goes on Alonso or JPM 👍 Webber might do well too.

Last night I had a dream where Mark Webber won a GP, so I guess I'm calling him as the winner of this race.

And in my dream Kimi won the next race :sly:.

this is going to be a good race , I have a feeling tha BMW will have a good race and get into the points

I think this might be Schmui's with Alonso second. Hopefully Raikonnen (and McLaren) can bring some of the pace from Monaco over and make it a good contest.

Super Aguri today announced that Sakon Yamamoto will join the team as their test driver for the British, Canadian and US Grand Prix. He will help Sato and Montagny in Friday’s free practice sessions.
So, chances are that Montagny will be demoted to third driver for his home Grand Prix in France. :indiff:

Fonce Diablo
Speed says this is the last CBS race of the season, thank god.

I don't wanna hear their crew any more than absolutely required...

Well hopefully. Like with Monaco. They'll drop that Derek Daly fellow. I forgot who was the replacement/fill-in for him last time, but he wasn't that horrible.

It's just that whenever it's on CBS, during the opening movie thing, the guys voice (main announcer, forget his name) actually makes me feel guilty that I'm watching F1. All I can think is, "How obnoxious is this guy, why are you watching this?!"

MS looks in great shape:

Looks like the lack of rain has fooled him into thinking he's in Indianapolis.

BAR has openly admited he's not got a chance at winning this weekend, the classic response being, we never thought you did.

And Coulthard is in high hopes and wants to proove that Monaco was no fluke ("I didn't score 500 points by accident")

And that's the news from the British papers.

Priceless moment of the day: M Schumacher spinning under the bridge before well... Bridge :p The crowd rejoices.

Q: (James Allen – ITV): Can you take us through the first series of corners based on the tests you’ve done. Am I right in thinking you don’t really use the brakes until the other side of Stowe?
DC: I think in my case, I use the brakes for the last part of Becketts, but I believe some people were flat in the test here, but that depends on what fuel level you’re running. I think if the conditions are right, in qualifying through turn one, you can go flat through Becketts, maybe lifting for the middle part then down a gear for the last part. It’s fairly impressive now because this V8 formula arrived at a slightly lower top speed along with the development in tyres has seen much less difference between straights and corner speed. It’s quite impressive even somewhere like the swimming pool in Monaco. I was over 20 kph quicker over the chicane than the previous year because you don’t have to take so much speed off and the balance of the car is therefore less effected because of the pitch, so it’s definitely an impressive place to go and watch cars go quickly.
JB: We were dabbing brakes off the maggots chicane - the left-hander there we were tapping the brakes, but even Stowe you’re not tapping the brakes so hard because you’d scrub off too much speed. The first place you really hit the brakes is into Club.
MW: I think they’re all pretty similar really. It’s always been quick at Silverstone, but now it’s really fast, and as DC said, you have to be pretty accurate as well. It’s a good challenge.

So the first time they really brake is into Vale! That's about half way round!

Really nice weather over there, for the whole weekend! That's not the Silverstone we're used to. :sly:

And that's not the macho JV I use to know...

Have fun following me this weekend, backmarkers! Bring some airhorns!

Edit : Fortunately, the team went back for the BMW Power rear wings. :D

They should tie some balloons and tin cans to the back of it...

DC knocked JB into the bottom 16, so he doesn't make it into the second knockout session. I just think that after all the Button/England/World Cup hype and nonsense it's funny to see a Scot knock him out

edit: Another piece of DC material. He feels he was blocked heavily by JPM in the second knockout session. Red Bull have put in a protest.

Fernando and Kimi first and second. Mc Laren seems to find a bit more speed. Lets hope it can make it all the way to the finish tomorrow. Poor Jenson... I feel a bit sorry for him. The spectators were waving a banner saying : M SCHU, Free parking here:lol:

Kimi could get bumped. He lost a part of his car during his last lap. Could he get bumped for that?

Anyway, another fantastic qualifying session with great results. Looks like this race is going to be a great battle. Provided Kimi wont blow his engine, again.

Fourth pole in a row for Alonso. This hasn't happened by a Renault driver in a long time.

Yeah Jenson was at the wrong place at the wrong time, he was called in for the random weighing and Honda never sent him back out with 3 minutes to go.. :ouch:

Oh why was DC so livid with his pit crew? :boggled:

And finally, great job Kimi for giving the whole Luffield A Stand a reason to rejoice (For him beating Schumi aswell)
