I love the GTO with all my heart but the GTO never had a chance. And, I love the 2003-2004 SVT Cobra more. :D

Of course it didn't. The GTO is a stock sports car. The SVT Cobra is a spruced up sports model of a lower model car.

A better matchup would have been the Cobra against the HSV GTS Coupe. :indiff:

Woot, go Cobra. Cobra FTMFW. Cobra 4 lyfe etc...

*sits and waits for everyone to bitch about street racing*

This looks to have been done in the country away from traffic. I saw no problem with it.

The '03-04 Cobra will walk your HSV. :D

Haha, awesome. :D I so want one of those Mustangs. :|

You and me both. Just has to be yellow or dark grey. :D

Except from 1:56 to the end of the video. I have no problem with it either way. I'm just saying that everyone and their mother bitches about "street racing," yet when someone posts a video of a car they like, they all of a sudden forget that street racing is bad.

I saw ZERO cars other than those two. How do you even know that this wasn't private property? Before you ride off on your high horse try and have some fun for a change. This isn't in the city at rush hour racing light to light like the billions of other videos. Relax.

I personally never approve of it under any circumstances, (even out in the boonies) but since I'll get yelled at for stating my opinion, I'll keep my trap clamped shut.

Yeah, it's less dangerous, but even public roads in the middle of no-where are unpredictable, and possibly worse in areas where drunk driving is also common...

Don't have fun much do you? The only thing that would of happend is one or both of these two would wipe out and kill THEMSELVES. It would be their fault--they took the risk. At least they decided to go out to the uninhabited to do it. :sly:

Then you missed quite a few vehicles. Watch it again and you will see a semi in the background, and several other cars pass on the other side of the highway. Before YOU ride off on your high horse, be sure to get all your facts right. No, this isn't in the city at rush hour racing light to light like the billions of other videos, but it IS speeding on a public highway at the end of the video. Relax.

The other thing is that you never see the car coming. In that area, they're fortunate to have fairly flat ground, but when you're so focused on what's ahead, you tend to forget what's coming to and across the intersection.

and, from the car at the intersection's perspective, it can be harder to judge how fast someone's coming at such high speeds. No, they're not blasting down the "Wangan" like hooligans, but it's not exactly proper, either.

Fine, you two really know how to ruin fun. I'd be inclined to remove the topic as it is OBIVOUSLY GROSSLY offending both of you. Wow, you guys are just boring people, you must drive Camrys.

*edit*
Ok after dissecting the video I saw the Semi on the 60mph roll when THEY WERE ON A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ROAD. That I don't condone, but the first few races out in the country WITH ZERO TRAFFIC that could even be private property I have no problem with.

When did I say I was offended? If you look at my first post I say:

Woot, go Cobra. Cobra FTMFW. Cobra 4 lyfe etc...

and in my second post I say:

Edit: Lol, dissecting the video? It was in clear plain sight. No dissecting needed. Also note that that was the only part of the video I mentioned being on a highway.

Except from 1:56 to the end of the video.

You know damn well what I drive, and that it's not exactly fast. ;)

If they were out on private property, that would be great, but they did run out on the interstate, which is a clear "unlawful speed contest." You call that fun, I guess, but I certainly don't. Doesn't matter to me what cars they are.

Furthermore, if the first races WERE on B-Roads, I'd be even more concerned. I do much driving on B-roads, that's how we get around out here. I don't need people tearing down in my lane when I don't have an escape path. There isn't one. "No" Traffic can turn into "One" traffic in the blink of an eye. I meet one or two cars on every two-lane road I run on, at least. If I were in th wrong lane, with another car beside me...that could get messy.

I'm not offended at street racing, just irritated. (Kind of like the guy who roared his Trailblazer SS away from the stoplight this afternoon. irritating.) I am offended that you say I shouldn't say that I feel it's wrong. And I wouldn't have replied if you hadn't reacted, and just ignored me.

You guys have to understand, I have a problem with 98% of street racing. The first 2 or 3 races in this vid look like either private property or so far out in the country that there is no traffic--and there wasn't any. And that part of the video was entertaining to me. The interstate from 60mph roll or whatnot was inapropriate yes. Granted, I'm sure everyone on this forum has either done this sort of thing or has sped before. So lets not kid ourselves here. Infact I have a video of the last WOT in my Camaro on I35--which *cough* was a few miles over the speed limit. All I'm asking is to just enjoy at least some of the video (Jim more specifically). So can we just like or dislike the video and move on? I thought it was an interesting and entertaining video--I was not intending on making it a "SPEED BAD SLOW GOOD ON TEH STREET" topic.

I guess I find some of this stuff a bit amateurish...and I really don't give a damn about Mustang PWNAGE (I'm sure there's a video out there of a Mustang Cobra getting stomped by a GTO,) so I'll leave it at that.

To be honest, I do stomp on my car's gas pedal...unfortunately, it doesn't go far over the 65mph speed limit without some serious worry over engine parts, but if it went faster, I'd probably have gotten up to 100MPH...ONCE. So I guess I'm a bit of a hypocrite in that regard.

This is my point exactly. I'm willing to bet a good chunk of the people on this forum that drive, speed at least every once in a while. And it's quite hypocritical when someone posts a video of street racing then someone comes in behind them and says how street racing/speeding is bad, yet they do it anyway.

Do as I say, not as I do?

On that note, Who can say they did it while racing against another car, over and over and over again?

But that's what you did? I kid I kid. :D

Lol, I don't even have my license. The only car in my near future is a 1994 Olds Cutlass Ciera...not exactly a speed demon.

What Texan with a sports car hasn't sped on I35 or I30?

Will it walk over a VXR500?

Due to weight I'm going to say affirmative. Honestly, if you've never driven an '03-04 Cobra (and seeing as how they are expensive to import to your part of the world you haven't) then you can't truely appreciate how fast it is stock for something that barely cost $34,000 USD when it came out. Best bargain ever.

This might be an interesting read for those who want to know:
Debuting in early 2002, the 2003 Cobra came with a supercharged 4.6 L DOHC engine rated at 390 hp (291 kW) and 390 lb·ft (529 N·m) of torque. It was later determined that Ford had underrated the Cobra, as actual output averaged 430 hp (321 kW) and 430 lb·ft (583 N·m) of torque. Numerous improvements were made to the powertrain and driveline to handle the increase from the previous model year. A cast iron block was used instead of aluminum, with stronger internals (forged Zolner pistons and Manley H-beam connecting rods) to handle the 8 psi (55 kPa) of boost delivered from the supercharger. Other improvements include the use of an aluminium flywheel connected to a Tremec T-56 six-speed transmission, 3.55:1 rear axle ratio and stronger 31 spline half shafts with revised upper and lower control arms.

For 2003, SVT offered a limited-edition Tenth Anniversary Cobra which featured unique color schemes, wheels, and badging. SVT produced 2,003 units of the Tenth Anniversary model, which was available in Red, Black, and Silver. The 10th Anniversary Package was offered in both coupe and convertible, featured unique wheels, red leather interior accents (seats/door panels), "carbon fiber-look" interior trim , red brake calipers, and SVT 10th Anniversary badges on the floor mats and rear decklid.

The only major addition to the 2004 model was the optional Mystichrome paint scheme and Competition Orange. The Mystichrome appearance package included a unique color-shifting exterior paint that was meant to be an improvement to the Mystic paint offered for the 1996 Mustang Cobra. The Mystichrome interior seating featured a unique color-shifting leather that mimicked the exterior paint.

While in production, SVT had codenamed this model the "Terminator", since it was supposed to finally put an end to any competition between the Cobra and the Trans Am / Camaro. Accordingly, the 2003-2004 SVT Cobra is noted by many for offering excellent "bang for the buck". With inexpensive minor "bolt-on" modifications such as intake, exhaust, ECU tune, and a smaller supercharger pulley, Terminator Cobras have been known to exceed 550 horsepower (410 kW).

My beloved WS6 Trans-Am had it been alive in 2003-2004 would of been walked all over by the Cobra. Maybe GM somehow knew they were about to even get the Corvette walked by the new Cobra. The reported 4.9s 0-60mph time is bloated, expect mid to low 4's. Which from a 100% American designed and build car is quite an accomplishment. :D

I love what a reviewer said of the '03 Cobra:
Not only does the supercharger greatly increase the 4.6-liter's outputs, but it also moves the torque curve down lower. The blower's only downside is that its shriek is the dominant engine note, drowning out the V-8 rumble.

I think that supercharger whine is the best thing about it. I get goosebumps when I hear one in person--even in the F150 SVT Lightning. I love it.

Well I have been to US quite a few times and I have seen them here in Australia on a few occasions but yes you are right I have never been in one, though I have heard the ridiculous (but cool) supercharger whine.

Bargain is not the question (although VXR500 was a bargain in the UK), but I don't believe it will outrun a VXR500 until I see it. Though really, I don't care all that much if it does.

Little off topic, but i love the whine of a supercharger so much that i will be buying a small supercharger for my R32 Skyline GTS-25 road car (when i buy one) and a big one for my R32 GTS-25 track car (again, when i buy/build it). Mate of mine is doing the same thing - he'll beat me though as he's a mechanic. :D

If you get a supercharger do get a roots/screw type and not a centrifugal force supercharger. Both are belt driven, but the roots/screw type sits right on top of the intake manifold. These are the ones that produce the while you hear from these Mustangs, SVT Lightning F150s, "R" versions of Jaguars, and GTP Grand Prix Pontiacs. There are more but these are the more well known uses of a roots supercharger. Eaton M112 for the Cobra and Jaguars and Eaton M90 for the Grand Prix and Thunderbird Superbird.

Nice! I love it when people do stuff out of the ordinary. Like supercharging an RB. 👍
