2007-04-08 3pm F1 #2 Malaysian GP @ Sepang Int. Circuit in Kuala Lumpur

So we finally make it to Sepang. Almost seemed like forever. Little interesting track tidbit I heard during the practice (that I'm currently watching with about 50 minutes left) is that Sepang has the longest grandstand in the world. Over 0.8 of a mile of grandstand! Meaning a lot of people will be able to pack the grandstands for (metaphor) miles. What I love most about Sepang is simply how fun and technical it is. It's a track that tests you from Start to Finish. I also think the course is not too easy, yet not too challenging. And I'm sorry- the TV cameras don't do too much justice as to how fast these things can go around this place. I think this should be a great race as the Malaysian heat and lush tropical scenery will greet the drivers. And if they want to win, they'd better make sure they don't become part of the scenery.

Should be a great race. What do you think?

Another Ferrari vs. Mclaren weekend is coming up I guess. Massa 1st, Fernando 2nd. Kimi 3rd and Lewis 4th. Lewis did it once again, Rosberg impressed today, 6th is a nice spot for the Williams to start 👍 BMW Sauber did nice again, 5th and 7th 👍 And the final team to impress once again is Toyota, 8th and 9th is a great spot to start on 👍 Worst team? Honda, again...

Open wheel sport should not contain closed wheels...don't care if they "help with braking" or not.

I think you've ineterpeted this to the letter lol , there are no rules banning Ferrari from using this technology , in Bahrain test over the winter ,Renult have used a similar device

Engine Penalties for Barrichello and Coulthard

formula1.com
Red Bull’s David Coulthard and Honda’s Rubens Barrichello will start Sunday’s Malaysian Grand Prix from the back of the grid following unscheduled engine changes ahead of qualifying.

Barrichello hit problems with his race car at the start of Saturday’s session, forcing the Brazilian to switch to the spare RA107. Unfortunately the team did not have time to transfer his race engine, hence he incurs a ten-place grid penalty.

As Barrichello only qualified 19th, the effect of his penalty is far less than Coulthard’s. The Scot had taken his RB3 to 13th spot, before it emerged that Red Bull had swapped him to a fresh Renault V8 before the session began.

I don't know, this is Alonso's track. He's won it twice in a row, I believe. He did fantastic, and Massa had one great last lap. Can he be consistent? I don't know; I don't think so.

It's going to be another great race and battle between Ferrari and McLaren.

EDIT: It was Fisi who won it last year. Alonso won it the year before.

A fantastic race with a truly awesome final few laps between Britain's new star and the Flying Finn... I shan't say the results of course, in case anyone didn't get up to watch it.

Wow what a great race , Heidfeld did a great job , shame about Kubica I think there was something wring with his car

I must say Hamilton was impressive. In only his second GP he made some of the other drivers look positively average. Good luck to him!

Wait, the race was at 3am? Crap, I marked down my schedule for pm.

Lewis on the Podium again! 100% podium finisher. :p

One better in Bahrain? Never know...stranger things have happened lol, but seriously, it's great he's doing so well and it's good that he's finding it tough and he's not all "Oh that was easy as you like it, not bothered at all". That'll toughen him up and go a long way to the amount he still needs to learn, but heck...with what he did to make some veterans look mediocre you'd think he's got it all.

After this race, I'm starting to become a fan of Rosberg again, he seems to have recaptured the spark he had at the start of '06. I just hope it can continue for him throughout the season.

Good race, the closing laps were fairly nail biting though..
:)

Today's podium: Brought to you by Renault.
That's better.

Some good dicing, but not much of a race at the front. Everything was a replay, this time around. Alonso just drove away from the start. Hamilton makes brave moves right at the start, which is a lot like what Alonso was doing the past 3-4 years.

Engine penalties are officially pointless. They do nothing to control costs, since that was what the FIA was intending; it just meant that Raikkonen couldn't push until the end of the race, since he thought the motor might overheat. Bah!

Honda and Toyota are in sheep dip; they might as well be customer car and engine providers. Oh wait, Soichiro's team is...

You'd figure Scott Speed has had one year to get used to the tracks, and he'd be faster and more confident, right?

(Sauber-)BMW looks like the team to beat...when that one race this arrives when Ferrari and McLaren manage to retire all their cars or leave their playbook at home. Of course, reliability issues need fixin' on thier end. I like the massive Q-tip they use to signal their driver in the pits, though.

It's also the first time I used my VCR to record a race in about 8 years. Damn, its so user-unfriendly compared to our whiz-bang technology of today. But it makes 2-hour races go by faster, and it doesn't suggest lousy programming to me!

Well, I liked the result of this race. It's amazing how much McLaren has changed from last year.

I guess Alonso didn't make a mistake in moving to McLaren, but it does make me wonder how Renault would have been this year with Alonso.

Ballsy effort by Hamilton in that first corner and second, he made Massa flap and show his inexperience (doing the same mistake twice, even worst the second time around!).

The Honda's looked naff again, BMW looked good and are probably the 3rd best manufacturer imo.

Hamilton is almost giving me a reason to wake up at 5am to watch the races again. The fact McLaren, my favorite team since way back in 1988, is back in the spot they belong, wearing the numbers that belong on said car, well that doesn't hurt either.

Great race by McLaren, they really did the job they needed to.

Ferrari’s strategy was useless when they came out of Turn 2 in 3rd and 4th positions. They really needed to be up the front from the first lap for that short-ish first stint to work (as it did for Alonso).

This is going to be an awesome championship. 👍

I finally got to watch it. Damn power outages. Great start and finish, but it was an overall boring race.

Great race for McLaren. I'm really liking the Alonso/Hamilton team. Great combo, if you ask me; the best in F1. I'm not much of a McLaren fan, but I'm definitely cheering for them this year.

It looks like I called it right with Massa.

My favorite team, Renault/Ing aren't doing so well. Then again, I do hate Fisi, and I'm not thrilled with the new guy. It hurts to see them do so poorly, now, but I expected this.

Next race is next week. Excellent. 👍

I was impressed with Wurz, one of my favorite drivers. Hoping for point finish next race. :)

I was super-impressed by McLaren and Williams. I feel SO bad for Rosberg, though. I wish Williams could have more funding, because I think they're definitely the most cost-effective team on the grid. I wonder how Nico will handle Bahrain, where he blasted away the field last season.

Hamilton was impressive again. He totally noob'd Massa. Fool me once, shame on you, Fool me twice, gravel trap.

I also feel pretty bad for Kubica. He needs a ride that won't plunk out. Ironically, the German car only craps out for the Polish driver.

Today's podium: Brought to you by Renault.

That's better.

Nooo, you didn't get it...
