With yesterday marking the draw for the Third Round, following 6 prequalifying rounds amongst the non-league teams and two more with the lower league teams involved, it's the perfect opportunity to start a thread on it...

70 clubs now remain - with 6 more to be knocked out following 2nd round replays - from a record 729 at this point, with the top 44 League Clubs (all of the Premiership and Championship) not joining the fray until this now.

3rd Round Edit: 6 Premiership and 8 Championship clubs have so far met their ends in round 3, with Premiership clubs Birmingham and Everton suffering the biggest upset, both losing to clubs 2 leagues below them...

4th Round Edit: With Round 4 over, only SIX Premiership sides survive, with two League 1 and 8 Championship teams remaining.

5th Round Edit: Round 5 sees the Premiership contingent cut to THREE (with a fourth pending a replay), with three Championship teams and League 1 Bristol Rovers still remaining.

(unusual results underlined; remaining non-league teams bolded)

Discuss!

Bad draw for the mighty Northampton Town if we get to round 3. I'd rather have a big club than losing to a club in our own leauge.

Swansea didn't exactly start off well against Horsham, though we came back and won comfortably.

Onwards to more non-league opposition!

Good luck. Swansea destroyed us last week but the game on sat was a belter.

Again good luck in round 3 for all.

Quite a shock that one but well done Chasetown, always like an underdog to win.

Looking forward to facing Portsmouth, we're unbeaten at Portman Road for 14 games. 12 wins in a row, before falling to an unlucky 13 0-0 draw (3 short of our all time club record) and then back to winning ways earlier tonight. I think we could even give Portsmouth a run for their money, hopefully revenge for the same fixture 2 seasons ago where they beat us at Portman Road 1-0.

Yeah, fancy that Everton getting beat by Oldham. Some unpredictable results today, I can't see Arsenal or Liverpool losing tomorrow though, I think the big 4 will all go through.

They still have Crouch, Babel, Kuyt and Voronin (though Voronin is rubbish imo) to play up front. Kewell, Pennant or Benayoun to play an attacking mid-field role. Alonso, Mascherao and Sissoko to add to thoes to play in mid-field as well. In defence they have Aurelio, Riise, Hyypia, Arbeloa, Finnan and Agger to choose from. They have plenty of players to choose from to beat Luton. I'd love Luton to win, but I can't see it.

As for the Arsenal game, Arsenals youth team would probably aviod relegation in the Premiership.

I was looking for good players :P

I'd like to see teams from outside the Prem get in round 4 & 5. If we didnt give away a stupid penalty in the last few seconds we'd have been in the 3rd round and I think we could have beaten Millwall to get into round 4.

Waterlooville for the cup :dopey:

I've just watched Match of The Day and some serious upset s in there, I think of all the games today Ipswich probably feel hardest done by, that was no way a seonding off, but they held thier own for most of the game a man down. They were unlucky and if wasn't for that poor ref's decision who knows.

I think that Liverpool squad once you take Gerrard, Carragher and Torres out shows why they arn't going to win the title. Mascherano is alright and I think Babel has potential he's only young, but the rest generally arn't Premier league winning standard. Should still beat Luton pretty easilly though.

A worry for Liverpool is Mascherano is not a Liverpool player yet.
Torres is an awesome player but he needs another 20/25 goal a season striker up there with him.

Man U have both Rooney and Tevez who can scored 20/25 goals a season like Andy Cole and Yorkie did and with Ronaldo pitching his fair share in you have to say Manchester United look good for the title. That and not losing players to the African Nations.

Liverpool's problem is they dont always play the best team in the cup or the leauge.

MoTD showed that playing a weak/youth team in the cup doesn't pay. Reading said they couldn't care about the Fa cup but they played a 'strong' team.

Yeah, Trotter shouldn't have been sent off, it was the same story last year. A so called Premiership referee sent off George O'Callaghan (and the assist wrongly ruled out an onside goal for offside), Watford then went on to win 1-0. O'Callaghan's red card was rescinded during the week after which was very painful.

I have to give credit to our lads though, even with 10 men we proved we can stand up to a Premiership side and have every reason to hope for a play off (or, if we can get our away form sorted out) an automatic place to the Premiership. David James' 3 class saves kept us out and I really thought Haynes had become the hero with that last gasp effort...just a shame Nugent was brought on. He always seems to score against us (7 goals in 6 games against Town for Preston and now Portsmouth) but our defence fell asleep for just that split second. As you say, if the ref had listened to himself and not the assistant or Portsmouth bench and if we hadn't had Jonathan Walters pulled out at the last minute through a stomach bug...who knows?

Just the league to concentrate on now, it's a shame, but football is very cruel sometimes. At least we're still unbeaten at home in the league lol.

Well I was wrong about Liverpool, they took the lead then Riise decided to stick the ball into his own net to level things for Luton straight after, nice fo him. Arsenal walked thier game, they never even had to get into second gear. Watching it I got the impression that they could rip into the other team at will if they wanted, they were just playing very relaxed.

Surely that should have been a penalty. He kicked it up and then hit it in with his hand. Or did the ref play advantage?

Stoke earned a replay against the toon, which Newcastle dont deserve because it wasnt a great performance, last 10 minutes saw our best chances but didnt take them.

Isn't it, City are once again playing at home with everyone behind the ball most of the time. At home. Attack a bit more, Sven and his bleedin better safe than scoring tactics.
