I was about to say that it would make them A LOT more distinguished, but then think of the Red Rims on the Spyker, not very nice.
Or worse, the Renaults ...

However, they probably wouldn't look too bad on the Ferraris, McLarens, Red Bulls, Toyotas and Super Aguris.

Note to Spyker: make up your minds already! This is the third name change and fourth livery change in about as many months!

That's what I love about Daylight Savings. Not only do certain places not participate (ahem, Arizona, please pick a time zone and stick with it), but we can't even agree to all do it at the same time! Our clocks already changed, and with it, mass confusion and panic over the systems that did not do it automatically.

The race: like needles to a junkie, the sight of F1 will cool these jangled nerves. I think it's on at 8 PM, so there's still plenty of time to hang out afterwards :D. I love the west coast sometimes...

It's a 3 O'Clock start in the morning on this side of the pond  And then England have a World Cup (Cricket) game in the afternoon. I'll have to do some recording of the afternoon re-run me thinks.

I went to the Australian race in '03. It was an awesome feeling watching the close of the '02 season, knowing that the cars would not again race without me seeing them. Then you've got this massive build up (so much more massive than when you're not going to the first race). And you sit in the grandstand first thing on Friday, to see everyone do their installation laps: the first run out of the new season. It's a great feeling.

That said, I'll be watching it at home this year with my insomniac son, no doubt.

Interesting, maybe the red rims are gonna help distinguish tyres as well..

What team is using those rims?

Can't see the white dot during the TV telecast - kind of pointless and needs improving.

Otherwise it's shaping up to be quite interesting.

Wow, Alonso kinda blitzed the field there.. 1.5s Ahead of anyone.

Davidson in 11th, well done to him!

Fisi is having some reliability issues by the looks of it.

ALSO, the Renaults don't look too bad when they're on the tv, but i dred to seem them tomorrow at the race.

Here's praying for a bit of rain tomorrow and on Sunday; Honda (read: Button) are clearly faster on a wet or drying track than they are on a bone-dry circuit.

Otherwise, Lewis Hamilton is impressive. Not to sure about Hekki Kovalainen, though. Adrin Stuil's doing alright for what he has to work with, too ... but the one that caught my attention during that session was Sato in 13th. The SA07 might look like a dog's breakfast, but apparently looks are deceiving. Still think last year's livery was better.

Kazuki Nakajima in the Williams was also excellent in that first session. Pretty-boy Nico might be Keke's son, but his driving always left me feeling cold. Frank, if you're reading this, give your Japanese kid a drive as soon as the FIA let him.

Ha, the soft tyres are impossible to see at speed. I knew a 3cm dot on the sidewalls would be impossible to see. Silly Bridgestone.

I’m sure they’ll change that by Malaysia.

I enjoyed seeing Super Aguri beat Honda (whose car looks as bad on TV as I thought it would), and seeing Williams smash Toyota.

Both Renaults had mechanical problems, too. Surprising considering how strong their reliability has been over the last couple of years.

And I really enjoyed seeing Hamilton do so well. He was instantly quick and it was great to see.

Ferrari are looking strong for qualifying. I’ll be surprised if Ferrari and McLaren don’t lock out the front two rows of the grid.

BMW seems to have the speed I hope the car stays reliable , and the would get some good points

yea apparently he was setting purple sectors after the checkered flag had dropped and he had already crossed the line.

Sort of, I was watching the Live Timing on Formula1.com - he set an average 1st sector - although still fast - but he did set a Purple 2nd sector - 2 tenths quicker than Massa. I think that he could've gone into the 1:26's if he pushed really hard in the final sector

Looks like Ferrari and Mclaren are going to have a tough battle, just like old times 👍

Honda will be tearing their hair out to be beaten by Super Aguri. Barrichello dropped it on the last corner I read, anyone actually see the incident?

Good to see Williams back up towards the front. Great to see Hamilton running well too.

Yeah it was on the news here, sports section of course though.....

He pretty much got too throttle happy and backed it into the wall coming onto the pit straight, similar to what Montoya did a couple of years ago if my memory serves me right.

Not really....

The track was damp from having rained heavily earlier in the day, and it was still spitting throughout the practice session. Barichello dropped his rear right tire into the grass just as he was turning in to the final corner and the wet grass sent him for a spin.

Word, Super Aguri owned the practice sessions. 👍

Looking at the split-times at the F1 LiveTiming, the Ferraris absolutely smashed the field on the last sector - 0.3 seconds quicker. Alonso sucked there - 0.6 was lost there...

This looks mighty interesting. Shame they don't broadcast anything in Israel, so I'm limited to LiveTiming...

Sandbagging do you think?

Sandbagging do you think?

I don't assume anything... The track seems very consistent - no 'special' sectors which differ much, so I can't really see how a driver with almost-equal splits on T1 (0.1 difference) and T2 (again, 0.1) looses a whole 0.6... I don't think he has a reason for sandbagging, seeing as F1 doesn't have weight-penalties.

Any ideas?

Some times, especially before the season really kicks off (qualifying) teams don't always want to show quite how strong they are.

Never thought about that. Luring others into a false sense of security? Though, they'd have to sandbag throughout the lap rather than just the last sector, if they were smart. And not win the first qualification by 1.5s...

I still remember in 2004 that that Ferraris almost topped everything and smashed the opposition in the race.
