if the soft tires only last about 3 laps and you have to run them once in the race, won't this make for some very interesting pit strategies? how do you guys think it'll work?
 
I think its going to be very hard for Renault to be competitive in the first half of the year, Hamilton has done very well and Im also impressed by BMW's result, very good.

The soft tyres will last way longer than 3 laps. Where did you get that info from?

I think someone mentioned, perhaps on the LiveTiming, that conditions made the soft tyres fall apart after 3 laps or so, but that it shouldn't be that way tomorrow...

Well it was on Friday that the graining was really bad on the front left tyre. Teams were going out for one or two flying laps and the front left was pretty wrecked when they came back to pit lane. Yesterday I think it was better, the track had more rubber on it so the tyres were sliding less.

Today the track should be better still by the time teams put the softs on (which I guess will be at the end of the race), so I don’t expect any major problems. For sure the performance will start to drop off after a few laps, but it’s the same for everyone.
 
The tyre rule should provide some interesting racing in the last few laps when the teams start switching compounds. The soft tyres supposedly improve the times of some of the slower cars by up to a second while they last, so changing compounds at the right time could prove critical. :)

Massa takes engine penalty and goes to the back.
They shouldn't be allowed to change an engine if there is no problem with said engine.

Since he would be starting so far back in any case, the Maranello team decided it had little to lose by installing a fresh engine in Massa’s F2007 and the mechanics replaced the unit once the car was released from parc ferme on Sunday morning.

I hope it blows up.
 
To paraphrase Steve Matchett: if they wanted to go slower, why didn't they just strap a $20 lump of lead to last year's car, instead of spending millions?

Following that comment I think David Hobbes said: "They should go back and use last year's car. Oh wait they can't, the Aguri team borrowed it."

Heh, never rule that possibility out though. That's essentially how Button finally got his win.

I'm just happy to see Davidson getting a chance in a race seat. I think he's paid his dues long enough. I know a lot has already been said about the (hillarious) Honda/SA situation, but anyways: I'm sure Davidson never imagined that he'd be outpacing his former team when he signed to Aguri last November. That move probably isn't looking too bad to him now.

But, I'm very much doubtful that SA's apparent pace will last throughout the duration of the season (particularly if Williams's complaint amounts to anything). They'll be interesting to watch, though.

I think we're in for a great season. There's a new batch of talented rookies looking to prove themselves, and there seems to be plenty of stories, controversy, and (most importantly) competition all the way through the grid.
 
Since when did Marlboro stop putting their logos on cars? I don't think that any little kids are up watching this in the US (then again, there could be little kids watching in Europe and other parts of the world).
 
Aah, I forgot how much I enjoyed Martin Brundle's grid-walk. Right at the end Bernie Ecclestone appears out of nowhere and tells him to go speak to the Aussie Prime Minister, then disappears again leaving Martin going in circles. :lol:

It's not up to Marlboro. Tobacco adverts are banned in many countries. As of this year, Australia is one of them.

Most teams have dropped their tobacco sponsors as they are being weeded out of the sport. Ferrari has kept Marlboro for this season and will display their brand where legal to do so. Next season there will be no tobacco sponsorship what so ever.

Watching the onboard footage, Jensen and Rubens weren't joking: Those Honda's look like pigs to drive. They remind me of the RA300 in GPL, not quite fast enough in a straight line and all over the place in the twisties. :crazy:
