But like I said in my previous opinion on the race, there was only one good overtaking and that was the Trulli dive down the inside. At no point did any of the front runners battle and as you said yourself, Alonso made little effort to overtake the Williams' cars.

I won't deny "racing incidents" make it more enjoyable for me but, while a challenging course it was, this was one of the classic procession races where the bulk of the position changing was down to pit stops that many anti-F1 people speak of.

I guess I should have used a different word then "attempt", as I seriously doubt Alonso, being the intense competitor he is, didn't hang back just for the fun of it. The fact that he never came close to making a pass is because he couldn't.

Now one might argue the fact that areodynamics have gotten so critical in F1, that the cars behave very differently in dirty air and clean air than in years past, but that's an issue all onto itself.

As the saying goes, you can't satisfy everyone, especially anti-F1 people who still watch F1 races hoping for NASCAR type of action and results.

Any way, you asked why I thought it was an excellent race, and you have my answer. :)

Crappy race, atleast Button actually went forwards this time I guess.:indiff:

Yet another sensational drive from Rosberg, I'd love to see him in a decent car. Poor Wruz is being completely over shadowed by him, but i still think Wruz is even out preforming the car!

What exactly was wrong with Massa's helmet? I didn't exactly understand his description in the post-race press conference. It definitely looked strange from the on-board shot.

From formula1.com

The helmet had a crack on the cooling system and I had big turbulence. My head started to go up and I was losing a lot of concentration, so I just took it away and it made a bit of strange behaviour on the straight but then it was better.

His head was getting tossed around more than usual.

I think the top part had a crack in it and the disrupted airflow was causing his helmet to lift on the straights.

EDIT: Tree’d. :dunce:

Right, that's Massa's description from the post-race press conference, which I said I didn't understand. I've been around a few driving helmets in my day and their "cooling system" was made up of a few intakes molded into the plastic, and even if the helmet did begin to "crack", it would take a significant amount of force to pull an entire section off (not to mention the fact that the helmet's ability to protect the driver has now been greatly reduced). Given the advanced construction and high costs of F1's helmets, such a scenario would seem even less likely to occur. So, what exactly was the thing that Massa "just took away"?

Just a guess, but maybe because of the high heat in Turkey he had a piece of plastic attached to the top of his helmet to direct more air into it for cooling purposes.

The helmets that Ferrari drivers use always have that section.

And Jordan, I know you have driven some open-wheel cars, but the aerodynamic forces present when a car is travelling 300kph are a lot different to those present at the lower speeds you’ve experienced.

If there is a decent-sized crack in the cooling duct at the top of the helmet I can quite easily see it putting a force on his neck that is uncomfortable when he’s travelling down the straight at 300kph, or even through turn 8 at 260kph.

So with this discomfort Massa probably decided it would be easier to pull off the cooling duct at the top of his helmet than to do the rest of the race with this problem.

Hmmm, perhaps I'm not making myself clear. I completely understand why he pulled it off, I just want to know how he did it. Helmets are made of extremely durable material, and it would take a significant amount of leverage to break off such a large piece. I suppose that said "cooling system" is detachable and separate from the protective layers of the device.

It looked like it was quite loose, it took him a while though, wasn't as easy as ripping of a bit from the visor.
