At the Nürburgring. (Not The Nürburgring.) Discuss.

Markus Winkelhock becomes only the third driver to be the third member of the same racing family (son of [wikipedia]Manfred Winkelhock[/wikipedia]) to drive in a Grand Prix event (Joachim Winkelhock, brother of Manfred, never started a GP race in 1989 with the AGS team).

Edit: The other three-part F1 racing families were the Fittipaldis and the Villeneuves.

What about the Villeneuves?

Gilles and the younger Jacques we know about, and there was Jaques the elder who failed to qualify three times in the early 80s.

I knew there was another. I thought Jacques the Younger was a singer and musician.

It's just a flu, I'm sure he'll be fine...

I'm hoping Kimi can continue his new found form, though his record at the Nurb' doesn't suggest good things are to come. This was a race that almost signaled the end for his title fight in '05, hopefully we get a reversal of that.

My early predictions;

1st Kimi
2nd Alonso
3rd Massa
4th Hamilton
5th Heidfeld

Should be a good weekend.

Kimi has always done well at the Nürburgring, but been unlucky. In fact he seems to have a German curse. His car almost always falls to pieces (literally) in Germany.

Should be an interesting race, I do like the track even though the first sector is a bit Mickey Mouse…

Hamilton may have trouble unless he can shake off and fully recover from his bout of flu..
Actually, his flu may let us see what he's really made of. If you read the F1 Rejects review of the British GP, they highlight a very good point: Hamilton has had it fairly easy compared to the other three this year. His car has always been good, he's always been up the front of the grid and he's been very untroubled. The cards have always been in his favour. But, significantly, he hasn't passed anyone in a pitstop as yet, nor has he had to work his way through the field. Bear in mind that Kimi Raikkonen did a very respectable job of that at Monaco from sixteenth on the grid, and Felipe Massa has done it twice this year, at both Albert Park and Silverstone. While Hamilton's run so far has been excellent, we're get to see what's he's really made of. So, while influenza may seem to dampen his chances, it may also give him the opportunity to demonstrate that he's every bit as good as he has been.

Wait,is there a Jaques sr?How that can be?I thought Jaques Villeneuve is the son of Gilles Villeneuve. When did Jaques sr suddenly appear?

I knew there was another. I thought Jacques the Younger was a singer and musician.

Was the same Jaques Villeneuve who was in F1 (or you were referring to him as sr?)

Onto topic now, can't wait to see Michael Schumacher to be back in the car as he will be the first to drive around the Schumacher S.(I don't know if my TV channel will show it :guilty: ) I also hope to see how Markus Winkelhock will perform in his first race for Spyker.I think also McLaren will have a hard time here in Nurburgring as Lewis seems to have the flu.I guess we will have to wait and see how the weekend will turn up......

Jaques is Gilles’ is brother, while Jaques is Gilles’ son. 💡

Okay,i did a research on wikipedia and this turns out:

About "Uncle" Jacques Villeneuve
Jacques Villeneuve - also known as Jacquo or Uncle Jacques (in French L'oncle Jacques) - is the brother of Gilles Villeneuve, and uncle to Jacques Villeneuve (former F1 world champion). He was born on November 4, 1953 in the small town of Berthierville, Quebec, Canada. He is now frequently known as Uncle Jacques because of the rise of his nephew. He had a varied motorsport career, taking in Formula Atlantic, CART, Can-Am, snowmobile racing and Formula One, and remains a revered figure in Canadian motorsport circles.

About Jacques Joseph Charles Villeneuve
Jacques Joseph Charles Villeneuve (IPA: [ʒak vilnœv], born April 9, 1971 in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec) is a Canadian automobile racing driver, he is the son of Gilles Villeneuve - another racing driver. Villeneuve is notable for winning the 1995 CART Championship, the 1995 Indianapolis 500 and the 1997 Formula One Championship. Alongside Mario Andretti and Emerson Fittipaldi, the Canadian is one of the only drivers to achieve all three.

and his music career:
Though he started writing his lyrics during his lower league days in Japan, it was not until 2006 that he released his first commercial single 'Accepterais-tu', a French song with lyrics that fit well with his present personal status - asking his loved one to marry him. The launch was held at his café.[citation needed] On February 19th, 2007, Villeneuve released his first album entitled “Private Paradise”. The launch was held at his café, where he performed two songs in front of a crowd largely composed of news reporters. When asked about his expectations on the album he released the following statement: “I hope the album makes a great success. I would never do something hoping to get criticized.” [1] His new record had very low sales; as of March 9th, 2007, only 233 copies were sold in the entire province of Quebec and about 30 outside of Quebec and Canada - excluding digital sales. [2]

Sorry i brought this up :nervous:

Yeah I thought this was the German GP, not the Euro one. Why's it changed?

Hockenheim still have rights to the title of "Grand Prix of Germany".

My Prediction:

1st: Massa
2nd: Raikkonen
3rd: Alonso
4th: Hamilton
5th: Kubica
6th: Heidfeld
7th: Kovalinen
8th: Fisichella

Hope to see a good performance from Button though, he deserves it.

I'm going for another Kimi victory...At least, I hope so...If not, then Massa, he really needs to get back in there after the rather dissapointing result last GP, which could've been so much better...

Anyway, I hope Toyota will be able to snatch another point here in Germany 👍

But I am right in thinking there is no Hockenheim this year?

You're right, although I'm disappointed, since I actually like the "new" Hockenhiemring because it makes for good racing. There's officially no race with the title German Grand Prix this year, which marks the first time since 1955 that has occurred.

Edit: Of course, I'm getting two different stories, even from Autosport: The two tracks will apparently alternate the title, like Silverstone and Brands Hatch did for the British GP from 1966-86.

The 1960 German GP was a Formula 2 event, held on the South Course of the Nurburgring.

I am going to miss the qualifying so I expect some good reports on it here...

What other sites do people use to get info and to discuss F1? I haven't been following for several years (since before the internet became a viable source of info) and am really getting into it again this season.

This is surprising. Are Toyota going for another patented 'mysterious lack of pace on Sunday after a good Friday & Saturday'?

I don't hope so, they should be into the top 10 in qualifying, as always, with exception for Ralf. What I'm wondering: Will Toyota be struggling, once again, with their reliability?

Winkelhock is as good as Albers then!

As long as he finishes, without taking with him the fuel installation, he's better!

Just give Winkelhock a chance. He's bound to go somewhere in the near future (hope he doesn't end up like Albers) but seeing him about 1 sec off Sutil's time,i think either he's having car problems or he can't keep up with todays F1 standards.

Lewis Hamilton has had a big accident in final qualifying... some sort of failure of the front right tyre/wheel, and he crashed heavily. He got out of the car himself, but he's being stretchered away now... Session has been stopped while they remove his car from the tyre barrier... Let's hope he's not badly hurt and can take part in the race tomorrow. He was in 5th position in the session at the time of the accident...
