The Holden Commodore (Includes all model variants + Ute)

Lets see who will face down the Audi R8...

Can we just save the hassle and declare a winner right now? This is the sort of thing you could feel safe betting your house on.

Voted GT-R because out of the two it's the better vehicle.

I know I've criticised the GT-R quite a bit, but as I've always said I do think it's a good car in the terms of performance. My biggest complaint goes along with what Top Gear said on the issue with it having no soul and nothing but a million gizmos and gadgets crammed into one vehicle. A machine without soul is just a bunch of metal and plastic bits, I don't what that. Even though I feel the GT-R is nothing more then a nerdgasm of tech buffs and a Ring hot lapper, the Holden (what we get as the G8) is even less inspiring and has even less soul then the GT-R. About the only two redeeming factors on the Holden are it's looks (I feel it looked better then the GT-R) and the price (it's more affordable to the masses).

Voted for Godzilla of course. 👍 That puny Commodore doesn't stand a chance!

If this decision was being made in real life and not on the net alone, I'd go with the Holden. However, being a net contest, I had to vote GTR.

Commodore...comes with a manual.

Unless of course you are from America and have to buy the G8. As far as I and the Pontiac car configurer are concerned there is no standard transmission option.

Well the 2009 GXP will come with a stick. Plus we'll be getting the ute version, also awesome. In addition, I like the look of the G8/Commodore much more than the GT-R.

GTR. It beat my lovable Exige, but it is truly an astounding piece of mechanical and technological engineering. So much thought went into this car regarding every possible form of driving. I seriously consider it the one-tenth version of the Veyron. It just does it all, top to bottom, without an visible hindrance or fault before judicial scrutiny. It's just that good of an achievement. Just the way the Bug put up remarkable laptimes and figures for a turnkey hypercar, the GTR just does it all, reliability, power figures, proven track times, cornering ability, the works. It takes nothing short of an internet grouch to disprove this car's ability and overall benchmarking. Since the car's landed Stateside, I've read nothing but impressive reviews from owners, track junkies, industry insiders, journalists and passerby's alike.

I love the homegrown aspect of the Holden, but the powerhouse GTR just pushes things to new levels that the Commodore just doesn't come close to influencing. GTR it is, and I look forward to finding and shooting one.

People get caught up on the speed factor and outright performance, but we all know which one you'll feel cooler and more satisifed driving.:sly:

I vote...

GT-R.

Both are ugly, the GT-R is somewhat better a technological marvel than the Holden and gets the win because it is NOT an average cookie-cutter pile of garbage.

I also look at the futuristic and technology factor too

You mean the work they put into it? I'm not much of a man of the future, the future seems to always be a grim prospect, especially considering that all petrol cars will die out one day.

I vote...

GT-R.

Pile of garbage now? Just because it obliterated the Falcon.

I had to vote for the overdone Datsun. As much as I don't like the car, I at the very least respect it, and hand-on-heart, Nissan did their homework on it. Its impressive both on and off the track, and will push the game forward.

Its nothing personal against the Commodore, many of you are aware of how much I love the car, but the GT-R is the better car here. There isn't any major question of it.

Well, you Aussies named GT-R a Godzilla.. don't blame it if it does what the nickname implies.. it's just history repeating itself :D

GT-R. Again, in the previous round I voted for the Exige not the GT-R, but given the choice of GT-R and Commodore, it has to be the Nissan. The Commodore has very little appeal for me, the GT-R slightly more. I'd hazard a guess that the Nissan is both a better car and more significant for motoring than the Holden too.

We gave it that name? Then you should worship us for doing you a favour.:p

This one's a no-brainer. If you consider the impact that these two cars have had in enthusiast circles and the internet, it's a runaway... in terms of real-world desirability? Granted, the GT-R is much more expensive... but I don't think I'd be drooling over the Commodore... (although a V8 GT version would be nice) sorry.

But it wasn't fair! He had power restrictions and ~150KG ballast and he still won! :p

And the V8s didn't?:p The only difference in 1992 was a 100kg ballast and a pop-off valve.

Edit: Dick Johnson should have won that race in his Sierra where the GT-R got boo'd. It was a huge screw up on the official's behalf that the GT-R won, and the whole crowd was pissed off at that decision hence the booing. If you also look it up, both a Commodore and Sierra were faster in qualifying.:p

For those who don't know, that particular race was red flagged due to extremely wet weather and monumental accidents.

But there is a point to posting about there not being a point to voting? I'm confewzed.

I know why Japan hasn't made a high-powered performance car in the past. There was some type of rule that applied to all Japanese cars saying that their cars can not have more than 280HP, but that rule is gone now. I guess people are still trying to get use to a high-powered supercar that is Japanese but it will start to grow on you before you know it

Only difference? thats huge, 100kg's means a lot in racing, plus the pop off valve limits boost (hence dropping power), thats a huge disadvantage. Dick Johnson in race even asked (jokingly) for them to add more weight to the GTR when it pitted.

When the race was cancelled due to the bad weather the GTR had covered the most ground so it won, simple.
