Keep it called a Falcon. Make a more focused, sporty version and call it a Falcon Sprint. Rebody the Sprint in a coupe style and call it a Mustang. Rebody the Mustang in a slightly toned down way, make it more luxurious and badge it as Mercury Cougar. Go back to the Falcon, chop out the rear seats and bulkhead and crop the body into small, sporty pick-up and call it a Ranchero. Oh look, it's 1964 again! - but that's no bad thing.

*sigh* I miss 1964.

Hehe, I can see it now. Ranchero and El Camino returning.

I pray everyday that this is the case. 1966-1970 to me were my favorite American automotive years. Too many great muscle cars to choose from with the big three.

Come to think of it, with all these kickass rwd based american cars coming out, it'll be 1966-1970 all over again!

...And the good news is that they're all just shy of 30 MPG on the highway, and really aren't too bad in the city either. Breakneck speed at an affordable price, its the way to make people excited about American cars again...

I'd thank Ford (AU) and GM (AU) everyday for their generosity. 👍

I'm predicting Ford rolls the Falcon out, then stretches the wheel base and sells it as the Crown Vic as well like Holden does with the Commodore to make the Caprice.

Well, I doubt we'll see a long-wheel base, my latest issue of MOTOR magazine says that Ford has offically axe the Fairlane. MOTOR also has a CG render based off of the spy-shots of the Falcon and if it turns out anything like this render I'll be very disappointed as it doesn't look like I'd expect a Falcon to look at all. If I remember I'll have a squiz of our new scanner and post the render.

Here's the CG picture I said I'd post.

I just want that damn turbo I6. 1000hp, what?

That doesn't mean they won't do it for America, as abandoning that market segment if giving up a large piece of pie in America.

Pretty much. If they are indeed planning on replacing the Crown Victoria like I think they are with this model, they're going to need a long-wheelbase version. Furthermore, with Chrysler and GM presumably offering long-wheelbase versions of the LX/LY and Zeta models as well, its suicide to not offer it these days...

The fairlane (or long wheel-base falcons) were based of the stationwagon version of the falcon anway so unless they are dropping the wagon version too it would be relatively easy for them to make a stretched version for the North American market if it was required.

My thoughts exactly, and the same reason a Fairlane would also be relatively easy and inexpensive to continue with.

I heard a rumour that Holden were stopping the wagon version of the commodore. This seems strange to me as they have already produced a VE Statesman so would already have the platform. If they do stop making it what are all the sales reps going to drive :)

That's right. The Commodore wagon, along with the Falcon wagon, are great company cars. Relatively cheap to buy, tough as nails with tonnes of space. For either manufacturer to stop the wagon would be stupid IMO.

Damn, that CGI-image looks hideous; the Mondeo-style front will never look good on that Falcon. It's also a pity that the Fairlane and LTD name is dead, but I guess it will be safe to hold onto it for later now these renderings have surfaced...
But then again, there is no way it is going to be able to touch the VE Commodire in terms of styling no matter how hard it tries-

But no one buys them anymore, because what used to be the wagons territory is now the place of the SUV.

Hence why no one bought the Adventura, and the Territory sold like Hotcakes. It's not important anyway, as long as they make a VE Sandman off the Ute Platform I'm happy, a VE Sandman would be the dogs balls.

It's true what you say - I do see a large number of Territories (is that the correct pluralisation) around.

How much would they charge for a Sandman though? It'd be limited edition and all that, and the price would be high I'd say. I can't see them producing one as part of their regular model line, if they produce one at all.

Plus, I think I'd prefer an original to a new one anyway - even with all the fancy mod-cons a new one'd come with...

Well, a Sandman is pretty much just a basic ute with a canopy on the back. And since the ute models are usually priced well under the sedan variants, I'd imagine a Sandman to cost less, or at the most equal to, the equivalent spec'd sedan model.

I don't know about that. From what I know, the original Sandman was based on the panel van - and the big thing that separates a panel van from a canopied ute is that there's front-to-rear access. You don't get that in a ute, even with a canopy. For Holden to make that, it'd be a big design change and as such, a major undertaking.

Yeah, but if it's a special edition they'll add a premium to the price - just for the specialness of it. If it were to run as a factory model, then yeah, I guess it could fall between the ute and the sedan on price.

Hmm with these latest spyshots this bloated bus is actually starting to resemble a Falcon, especially that grill and front bumper.

That thing looks to have almost 2 feet of front and rear overhang, it just looks dumb. Especially compared to the VE.

Yeah, now that you mention it the overhangs do look to be excessive.

The BA, and now BF Falcons sem to be pretty on the money. I wouldn't really mess with them too much. Is this a whole new chassis again, or just an update?

BA and BF originate from the same EA169 basis of the AU so it is getting quite old. Yes this is a whole new platform.
