While the sedan is a rather sexy model, the G37 leaves me feeling confused, and a bit alienated. Its like I've grown up expecting so much, and yet I'm left with a mutated Lexus SC40 up front and a melted Acura RSX out back, draped over your standard G35 Sport Coupe body. Nice one Nissan...
The extra power will be nice, 330 BHP, due to the enlarged stroke, but I can't see it drastically improving performance all that much. The car is still heavy, still larger than the 3-series, lacks a cog in the transmission, and contains a growing number of computer add-ons that are neither necessary nor add much to the performance (overall) of the car. Once again Nissan, you surprise us.
Best of all, price should be a deciding factor for a lot of people, and chances are that Nissan will make everyone happy. I wouldn't stretch it too far over the current price of the sedan, a few dollars here and there, still well-short of the BMW 335i coupe. But, people still like the idea of a four-seat 350Z, and if that is your preference, then the G37 is your ride of choice...
Am I convinced that it is better than the 335i? Nope. BMW still has the formula, and they are running away with it. But with a growing field of competitors (Lexus and Cadillac are due to add coupe versions of the IS and CTS later), its hard to say that the G37 is the best choice out there...
But for the money, you probably aren't going to find anything as satisfying... Unless you're like me and you're willing to lower your standards for a Mustang, Challenger, or Camaro...
