I don't understand what did you find in greycap's comment that made you reply about being a fan of Alonso.

Back to the 1% gap, I've read Pat Symonds Q&A, and also Alonso's and Piquet's. It seems they (Renault team and drivers) are optimistic, but realistic. They want to score points, and that is (if the momentum is maintained) clearly a reasonable aim.

PS - Just in case ... I'm old enough not to be a fan of any driver. My first F1 idol was Jackie Stewart, and my last was Gilles Villeneuve.

Most here hate him and won't admit his driving brings such excitement to F1 when he's got a good car and a team who SUPPORTS him!:)

And exactly where did we state that we hate him?

I've always thought Alonso was the brilliance out of the pack during his Renault time, but last season at Mclaren really showed the Alonso that cannot stand a team mate that's at least as fast as him, and a team that not chooses him as their favourite wonderboy. Everyone deserves an equal chance in F1, and Alonso seems to be in favour of the opposite since he wanted all the attention at the Mclaren team. However, Alonso did not recieve this at Mclaren, so he began to play dirty tricks on his teammate.

Anyway, I'm not here to discuss about Alonso, I just think he's far from the most exited drivers out there. My pick on that would rather be drivers like Sato, Fisichella or Webber...

Uh, because my first post was about Alonso, and I'm an Alonso fanatic... since your not a driver fan I must assume your merely a spectator, no matter your age. 1% gap doesn't leave much room for error by the front runners. Safety cars, mistakes, etc. Renault didn't make 1% improvement, they are within 1% performance of front teams. And with a pilot like Fernando, well, we'll see. I don't want to jinx them.

F1 is all about that last percent, so Renault still have a long way to go.

Long way to go? They've come a long way since pre Barcelona break. Your right about 1%, though. Perhaps it's the difference between P1/P2, eh? Yes Alonso was light, but P5 isn't bad before his DNF. Lot better than previous P10/P8 @ Bahrain/Malaysia respectively. I concede it may be awhile before a Alonso podium, but things could get interesting. 1% doesn't leave much room for error by the front runners.
Do you race- 'Fixed', you haven't fixed [censored by moderator]. Go back to picture captions, your better at that genius...:) "Extra bit to win."? That would be one Fernando Alonso.

Enough arguing about Alonso! Just leave this thread alone and discuss in a new thread. Whats done is done and we all should move along.....

Anyhow, 1% doesn't mean much in F1. Alonso was unlucky to have his engine blown up, but that is racing for you. Nobody has the perfect car nor the perfect setup to a race, they just race with whatever they have! Istanbul ain't going to be any different than Barcelona (and it fact, worse than Barcelona!) Ferrari is going to be strong there once again, with McLaren and BMW playing catch up to them. Renault will be fighting for the top 8 with Toyota, Red Bull, Williams and such. Renault still need more time to improve their car before they are even close to the top teams. You should see a big improvement from them just in time during the Canadian GP. 👍

Agreed.

With the onset of a new race in a few days, consider this thread closed, unless further developments specifically about the 2008 Spanish Grand Prix meeting (which ended nearly 10 days ago) occur.
