There's not a new BINI for 2009 and they don't get the FIAT 500.

Whaaaaat? No MINI or the FIAT 500? 👎
But considering the line up for the COTY, I'm thinking that none of them are as good as the one we set up on our poll. The GT-R is gonna win it, simply because it is just awesome in every single way. Ask yourself why the GT-R is in the front middle row of that shot? ;)

Mind you, this is the same magazine that, a few years ago, chose the Toyota Prius for this same award.

People who think the Genesis will win have absolutely no perspective. The Azera was hailed EXACTLY the same way as the Genesis when it debuted several years ago and - guess what? - it didn't sell either. Anyone see any Genesises yet?? I've seen one and they've been out over a month. This car will not sell and it makes no bigger impact on the auto industry than the Azera did... anyone remember the Azera?

Yes remember, this is American car of the year.
Well okay, should have read a little more about the award.... :banghead:

And a Toyota Camry in 2007. ;) But really, this award has so many American cars to win it, and the Japanese are a few exceptions to win this award. Seems the European cars doesn't stand a chance in winning this, considering the last Euro car to win that award was a Volkswagen GTI from way back in 1985. (okay, I know there was an Import COTY award but was talking more about the overall COTY award)

Believe it or not...I wouldn't count out the Lincoln, either. Of course, we all really know it comes down to which manufacturer will slip MT the biggest advert bill...

Ohhhhh, I forgot about the MKS... That could stand to do a damn-good job of upsetting a few of these cars.

RE: See a Genesis?

One. About a week ago. Kind of a tea green, I believe it was a V6 model. Boooooooring.

(MKS FTMFW).

The MKS won't sell either, and it doesn't move the game along either. You guys need to get your heads out of the sand!!! Cars from brands like Lincoln and Hyundai won't sell in different classes than the brands already compete in UNLESS there are HUGE marketing campaigns aimed at changing public perception -- which they aren't.

MKS is being received now like the LS was in 2000. The LS was very cool for a couple years, then it dropped off the face of the Earth. Then Ford pulled the classic American car "rename it because we let it go on so long unchanged" trick, so now we have the MKS. Yes it's cool. Will it still be cool in 2015 when it's still being sold albeit after a few facelifts? Ehh.

Genesis is exactly the same way and is also a victim of the renaming thing. XG300 was Hyundai's first attempt at the segment. Lauded for value, didn't sell. XG350 was next. High value, NO SALES. Then Azera. I bet you can look up posts on this very forum of people going nuts about the Azera in 2006. "LOOK AT ALL THE VALUE!!!" But um... no sales. Cancelled. Genesis will meet the same fate. And inevitably, Hyundai will try again in about 2012 with yet another near-luxury sedan that's rather cheap. It will be renamed and guess what? It won't sell either.

Lets face it, its a Hyundai. Of course it wouldn't sell!

I've seen at least 10, excluding the area where the local Hyundai dealer is. Plus, it kind of looks like a Mercedes. And surprisingly, it actually does stand out a little more than I thought it would. I'm not surprised it's sold well in areas where people still favor a cushy sedan with some power and have little respect for SUVs or race-track responses: The 45-65 year-old (possibly) retired crowd.

Motor Trend Car of the Year never goes to anything expensive (except that Mercedes SUV 2 years ago?) nor anything on the cheap. So forget about the GT-R or the Fit walking away with the trophy, unless the mag is seriously looking to change its readership base.
