Once again we return to Silverstone for the British grand prix. After Donington signed a deal to take the race away from Silverstone, the updates and financial backing they promised were not delivered. With F1 looking like it may not even have a British GP for 2010, Silverstone stepped in and struck an identical deal to the one offered to Donington, 17 years to be exact. The track has seen a major change since we last visited in 2009, with the new Arena corner replacing the abbey chicane, as well as a reprofiled club. The Arena corner will be taken at roughly 185MPH on a good day according to Mark Webber, but let's not forget the RB6 has obscene levels of downforce; so we can expect significantly less for some other cars.

Mclaren have followed Ferrari and will introduce an RB6 inspired 'blown exhaust' for this race. Instead of the outlets being either side of the shark fin pointing up, they have been redicrected either side of the gearbox, feeding hot air onto the double diffuser for extra downforce. Ferrari themselves will be hoping for a strong race, after much unachieved potential in Montreal and Valencia, especially for Felipe Massa, whom I personally believe could fly this weekend.

Anyone who's going to the race be sure to post here. I'll be attending all 3 days, with a seat at Copse C for the race. I'll be supporting my usual Red Bull / Massa and occasionally Alonso combo. I can't wait to be lynched by the entire crowd for shouting Lewis to not get pole and cheering on his competition

Today's not Tuesday. Locked until tomorrow morning.

Who else is going then? I'll be taking my usual seat in the grandstand at Stowe. Sitting supporting Massa amongst the hordes of Mclaren/Brawn/whoever they're tagging along to this year, shirts.

I've been offered a really good seat (apparently) for free, but I have no way of getting there at the moment haha.

I think this might shape out to be a repeat of last year's Red Bull victory. I can only hope anyways.

I don't know but feels like it's going to be Red Bull and McLaren all over again at the front... The new track layout seems to suit both cars but Vettel is going to be on charge.

I really hope, with the updates most teams will bring to the circuit they can actually closer or even challenge the McLaren and RB at the front(bored seeing them there from start until today). Aaaaand it sounds like Lotus has got the edge again I hope....

Post 1 edited with original intended text. Thread was closed before I could add it in. 👍

Will Ferrari win a(nother) race this year? (ya caught me Alex!)

I expect a Red Bull - McLaren duel; but I hope the other teams make it interesting:)

What position will Schumi finish in this time?

Seeing as Ferrari won the first race of the season, I'd say there is a fairly good chance they will win a race this season, yes.

All eyes on various team's upgrade packages for this race: McLaren, Williams, Lotus, HRT are all known to be trying out major updates.
As McLaren have been saying, this race could be an important one if it means they overhaul Red Bull on pure pace.

Ferrari are not looking particularly stronger than before, Valencia was disappointing for them and I'm not sure they have really made big enough steps to challenge for wins again. For the sake of the championship battle, lets hope they have but its not looking good for them.
Renault are a serious threat to Ferrari now that they have visibly overtaken Mercedes for pace. Mercedes appear to be going backwards with their developments, seems they don't really understand the car which oddly enough was a trait BAR and Honda used to have....and Brawn actually (remember the whole "the car doesn't like cold temperatures" thing?).

Fingers crossed that Williams step forward at Valencia was real and not just the circuit, would be a real shame to seem them finish behind Toro Rosso. Same for Sauber - hopefully they can improve their qualifying pace to make the most of that amazing race pace.

I am not usually a regular in F1 discussions. What I will be interested in, however, is how the new Arena section will be for the cars. I have actually paid attention to how the Silverstone layout looks to know what this new section is about. This Arena section makes up the second half of the course. I'll need to see how laps will be different around Silverstone with F1 cars.

You know, I'm interested in the British Grand Prix for off-track reasons as well - apparently Tavo Hellmund will be there to reveal more about the Austin race, but I don't have a confirmed source.

I think Sauber will be well placed here. High speed circuits suit their car better. If Mercedes are weak like there were in the last race, I can see Sauber doing a Williams (Like at Valencia) and getting both cars into Q3.

As for the race, I think it's dependant on Mclaren's upgrade. If it does what it is supposed to, it should give them that extra downforce needed to carry the speed through those high speed corners. We saw how far away they were with Turn 8 at Istanbul where the Red Bulls were flat.

Red Bull are probably best placed for a win though, providing their reliability problems don't make a return.

Funny, you told me you'd prefer not to go when I told you I was :sly:

I'm really looking forward to this race, hopefully I will be able to wake up in time to watch it.:ouch:

Don't bother, Justin! In the US, the race is being shown on Fox. And Fox won't show the race until 11am!

But Fox only shows commercials, with a few bits of racing in between. It's frustrating!!!

Even though I'm not fond of the BBC commentating, I think I will be looking for one for an online stream this weekend. I just cant stand when FOX broadcasts the race. You get almost zero grid walk/pre race, a lot of commercials, and you only hear the first question to the winner of the post race press conference. It's just torture to watch at times.

I understand exactly what you mean. I was never as interested in F1 when I skipped the pre-race and post-race footage. The way the BBC team create a bit of an atmosphere and build up to a race is fantastic.

You might be interested in trying to tune in to the live practice sessions on the BBC site too (Not sure if a Proxy works for it though, I know Proxys don't work when I try to watch Hulu... There might be a similar setup to prevent people watching from outside the UK - Even with proxies). They give a real insight into the technical side of things, and provide a lot of detailed and in-depth coverage that you just don't get in the race build up - Because it's aimed at the hardcore fans rather than the casual enthusiasts.

Just to let you know I'll be taking my DSLR photo and HD video cameras, and will be coming home after each day meaning pics will be uploaded soon after the session.

Bah! Consider yourself lucky - when you watch the standard Channel Ten broadcast in Australia (not ONE), we get no gridwalk and no press-conference (I think ... I usually clear out before then). Instead, we get an "analysis" by so-called "expert" commentators who have no idea what they're talking about and seemed to be programmed to say "Mark Webber!" at least once a sentence. They also interrupt the BBC feed after each and every commercial break to offer their thoughts and feelings about what has happened so far, and they usually interrupt Martin Brundle to say soemthing obvious rather than something useful or interesting. Thank God they go rid of Cameron McConville for this year ... he was the worst of them.

Nice. 👍

No Senna this weekend.

So, no Bruno Senna for Hispania this weekend...no confirmation why but should know in the morning. Sakon Yamamoto to drive...

Replacing him with Yamamoto too,. Why on earth haven't they replaced him with Klien who is far better than him?

I hope this isn't because Bruno has lost sponsorship or something like that.

Apparently the team will issue a statement tomorrow, which will hopefully clarify this.
I can't imagine its for performance reasons surely? Bruno has outqualified Chandhok where both had the same equipment. He has also been far faster in races and has usually been the one driving the Hispania ahead of one or both of the Virgins at times. Other than that its difficult to really judge how well either Bruno or Karun are doing so I really don't get replacing either of them with either Klien or Yamamoto who aren't exactly special talents.
