Again, the RBs at the front... Very dissapointed with McLaren though. They really are having a bad weekend that they have to revert back all the updates last night and running the car that they used in Valencia. Despite that, Hamilton did an outstanding job to take it up to 4th! Sorry to Button on his home race...

Ferrari is showing a bit of pace again, 3rd from Alonso is good but let's see if he can keep it for the race. Hopefully less controversial like as of in Valencia :p. Great to see De La Rosa in top ten, Kova and Trulli did a good job at the back.

I'm not a fan of the new circuit layout though... Seem a bit less challenging than before other than the bumps. Overall, I think tomorrow we could have a very good race.

What happened to Schumacher?

Not sure... He was in the pit for 6-7 minutes in Q3 before he was out. Thought maybe he wanted to save some tyres for the race but don't think that is it.

Actually, it was. Ted Kravitz reported that Mercedes were only releasing him for one run because he only had one set of tyres left.

Vettel on pole, Button absolutely nowhere, things are going well!

It's always great to see Vettel and Webber at a 1-2!! Let's hope we can turn this into a 1-2 win.

GO RED BULL!!

Too shay my friend! When button was coasting into the pits all his fans quietly muttered "not good enough" "thats so disappointing" I interupted them with a Nelson style HA HA :D

I was literally the only guy in the pit straight stand shouting for Vettel.

It wouldn't surprise me if half the crowd leaves if Lewis and Jenson both retire!

Touché, even.

Red Bull dominated that, nice to see the Sauber and Williams up there, Button was dreadful, Lewis got so much more out of the -clearly difficult to drive - car.

Nah. That bouncing, twitching, bucking rodeo horse McLaren calls a car is clearly the best car out there. Just you wait and see. Button for third from fourteenth! :D

I seem to remember the crowd sticking around and cheering Vettel on the podium last year, this isn't Senna in Brazil.

30% chance of a RBR failure tomorrow?

Would be funny if Webber did a Vettel on Vettel.

If Red Bull have a trouble free race, its hard to believe they won't win. But odds are they will screw up somehow somwhere.

Pretty disappointing from Button, but all to play for still tomorrow. Seems his bad luck with Silverstone will forever continue, just as Barrichello's does with Interlagos.

Great to see De La Rosa, Barrichello and Kubica getting in still. Seems Ferrari's updates work after all though even they are still 8 tenths (almost a whole second!) away from Red Bull.
I think perhaps Ferrari and Mercedes have been flattered here a bit by McLaren's bad performance as their difference to the Red Bulls was similar at previous races. Certainly they seem to look stronger overall though, Mercedes definitely look better than they did last race.

Not holding much hopes for a particularly amazing race, despite the record this year, but the midfield will always be interesting. Sauber's race pace has always been better so perhaps De La Rosa and Kobayashi can surprise from 9th and 12th.

Vitantonio Liuzzi of Force India has been penalised five grid positions for blocking Nico Hulkenberg in Q2. That means he will start the race in 20th place...

Completely justified after that rather idiotic display through Becketts/Maggotts.

14th of the grid? Pfft, by the second pit stops, Button will be in the top 5 ;)

*Waits for someone to point out that there will most likely only be one set of pit stops*

I'm wondering whether Button will go for the Kobayashi approach and run to the end of the race on the hard tyres and try to keep up with the leaders.
Though the reason that worked for Sauber was the safety car and their great race pace. Button's pace isn't so good if qualifying is a true read, though it may be that his car does have a problem of some kind.

I think Button is looking at points finish only, but as Murray says "anything can happen in Formula 1, and it usually does".

Chance of rain overnight - (It's gonna rain where I live and I'm less than 50 miles away)

Might change things up a bit!!

C.

If anyone was wondering, De La Rosa set his time on soft tyres, so no Kobayashi strategy for him. But it still leaves him in a good position for the race tomorrow - his race starts have been as good as Kobayashi's, the Sauber seems to have excellent traction off the line. Could be a surprise into turn 1 tomorrow.

Nothing much different at all given the setups with the Mclaren's
Gary test driver says the car was much better that day "Button lacking confidence in the rear of the car" "Around Silverstone you need confidence"

Button says the car was un drivable lol Once again as I've always said Button needs more car than raw talent to make the car go faster and that's the only reason he's even a champ.

The RedBulls will walk the field on race day...:grumpy:

Lewis vs Alonso at the Start I can't wait...👍

Given he's not that far off Hamilton for points, he's not a "nothing" driver.

Hamilton has a problem... he's starting on the dirty side of the track... Given how slippery Silverstone has been in practice, that can't bode well for him... especially considering Nico was nearly bang on his pace in qualifying.

The dirty side of the track isn't just it. Lewis might struggle in the race, as how the car is. Nico clearly had a much more comfortable car so my pick will be Nico finish ahead of Lewis...

Button won't be having a good race and I doubt if he can finish in the top 10... It can happen but the car itself isn't helping him unless someone retires only then he has a chance to be in the 10.

McLaren is pretty much not in a good shape... Really want them to battle out with Ferrari and Red Bull. Red Bull is just too fast in my opinion. Just waay too fast to compete with Ferrari etc.

That's the whole point. He's got a twitchy, hard to manage machine, starting on the wrong side of the race track. It's not going to be pretty... but he may be able to stay ahead of Nico for a little bit.

I dispute your allegations. Button's success comes from confidence in a good car; it is not a result of the car. If Button's success has only ever been because of his machinery, why didn't Rubens Barrichello challenge him more often last year?

Because its Barrichello.

Because its Barrichello.

 Rubens is a great driver, beating him is no mean feat, as Mr Hulk is finding out right now. This is Nico Hulkenburg - the so called next Lewis Hamilton, being beaten quite competently by Rubens. Does this make Rubens better than Alonso? :p

Jenson won with skill, his championship year is no less than any other champions.
I have to laugh when people say "yeah but he had the best car". And Schumacher, Senna, Fangio, Stewart...they didn't exactly have bad cars did they?

I just noticed that Vettel and Webber was running on different front wing. Originally they both have the new front wing but before qualifying Vettel's front wing has got a problem so they took Webber's into Vettel's car. Now Webber is running on with the one from the previous race. This is totally unfair in my opinion...

Red Bull gives you wing, but they take it back!

Vettel's blown it... literally. Puncture as he scrabbled with Webber.

Hamilton up into 2nd from 4th, Button on a charge... Alonso fell back and is in formation with Massa (replay shows he probably bogged it on the start). Kubica up in third, Rosberg in fourth.

Bet Kubica and Rosberg are happy as clams at the moment.

EDIT: looks like Alonso tagged Massa... puncture... it's possible Vettel either collided with Webber or Hamilton in that first corner scuffle, or popped his tire off-track... still can't tell... but likely he popped it as Hamilton took up the inside. Webber literally shoved Vettel aside and Hamilton dived for the gap on the inside behind him.

EDIT2: Replay confirms it was the contact with Hamilton that caused the puncture. Seb is going to be pissed at both Mark and Lewis after this race.

After Vettel shoved Webber into the pitwall!

And replays show Hamilton's front wing causing Vettel's puncture.
