No Senna this weekend.

Jake on Twitter
So, no Bruno Senna for Hispania this weekend...no confirmation why but should know in the morning. Sakon Yamamoto to drive...

Huh, it seems a little soon to start dropping drivers. It could be one of several reasons including injury, lack of sponsorship, other commitments or simply for testing purposes. On the BBC article it suggests a further statement will be made tomorrow.

I'd better get a prediction in before 1st practice so I'm going for a McLaren 1 - 2, led by Button, Alonso 3rd.

Its not injury, as you can see on Bruno Senna's twitter:

He has been preparing for the GP with no trouble to this day. He's been to the Cosworth factory to name his engine he's going to use for the race and cycled around the track with Karun.
Basically this has come completely out of the blue which heavily suggests money reasons. Especially when they replace him with Yamamoto.

What? Just 3 hours ago: on BSenna's twitter was writing this (other latest entries below):

Cycled round new-look track with Karun yesterday. Changes look pretty good

Spent the morning with Karun at Cosworth – good fun. Guys in the team are in good mood after Spain’s result last night…

Great to meet fans and looking forward to the weekend at Silverstone

I was holding my mobile phone with my left hand and the steering wheel with the right. Don't do this at home. Definitely not on the street!!

Guys, I'll be posting the onboard video I made with my mobile phone inside Ayrton's Mclaren MP4-8 from 1993 at Goodwood Festival of Speed!

So, I can only guess ... did he get sacked ?!

EDIT - Tree'd by Ardius :dunce:

Well my visit to Silverstone this weekend is a tarnished a bit now, I've followed Bruno's career and he always put on good races when I saw him in GP2.

That's a shame about Bruno, at first I thought it might be a last minuet decision by the team to see how a more experienced driver would fare over a race weekend, but as mentioned it's strange that they'd choose to replace Bruno over Karun. I hope this is only a temporary arrangement as I'm not sure Bruno could get another drive after his performance so far this year.

And as everybody knows/has said why replace him with Yamamoto rather than Klien. It has to be money-related.

I'm watching the 1st practice session and there's just been a close up of the McLaren front wing -- I don't know if this has been discussed yet but, is it possible that the duct on top of the cockpit is in fact to operate a front wing stalling device? the F for Frontwing?

Don't know how you worked that out. Air has to run in between the wing elements to stall it. If that was the case, air would have to be rerouted back towards the front wing with some kind of pipe or similar in front of the front wing. Aerodynamic? Hardly

No, the "F-duct" name was coined by Autosport's Johnathan Noble, he simply came up with it because the duct is where the "f" in Vodafone is on the car's livery.
McLaren have thier own name for it "RW-80" or something like that.

The duct channels air through the inside of the bodywork to the rear wing. I have no idea how you worked it would stall the front wing  air would have to go backwards!
Its been confirmed ever since Bahrain that that duct you see on the top of the car is used to stall the rear wing. Williams and Sauber both have similar ducts.

okay, okay. Improbable - yes, impossible - no. It may be part of the adjustable-angle device but, the rear section of the front wing (on both sides) is hellishly complex and has a central vain running front to back.

I'm just checking out the McLaren homepage here.... http://mclaren.com/intro/
It has a pretty cool 'time-themed' savable desktop app.

And, when you enter the site you get up-to-date text of the pit/driver comms and a live timing graphic of the two drivers. Looks pretty cool even if you don't like McLaren. 👍

The Renault front wing has a similar central vane to the one you're referring to (And they've had it for a couple of races now). I would imagine it's to divide the air going over the wheel and the air going over the body. Though I'm not sure why, i'm not an aerodynamicist.

You want to avoid air going over the wheels because it disrupts too much, you want to have nice and directed flow over the rest of the car.

Back home from Silverstone, pics and vids soon :D

Boy, Ferrari was horrible in Practice 1. And McLaren were pretty bad in Practice 2. Force India looking good, podium maybe???

Mclaren usually push for qualifying pace in practice because they know their race pace is good (And the opposite for Red Bull).

But because Mclaren are testing their upgrades they're not pushing for the top times like they usually would have on a Friday. Red Bull know they're fast and this track plays to the car's strengths, but they're wary that a Mclaren, Ferrari or Renault will beat one of their cars to the front row, so they seem to have been pushing for qualifying setup in todays practice.

What times are we expecting for Qualifying high 1'29s? low-mid 1'30s? Suppose it depends whether or not it rains tonight, the circuit should be rubbered in pretty well by Qualifying if it stays dry.

It's clear as day here, mega blue skies. It won't rain. Hottest day of the year so far

Well the pre-show is going to be all fun anyway I expect for both days. They did some filming with the Alfa Romeo 158 earlier this week too.

Agreed - Alfa 158 eh? Just googled that - looks awesome...

TBH - I love the BBC shows - since they restarted F1 - it's become rejuvenated in my eyes... ITV just never did it justice.

I'm no camera man as you can tell, but thought you guys might enjoy this. Stunning save by hamilton at 1.06

Good stuff Alex 👍. Abbey definitely seems to be the place to be now, especially thanks to that big bump in the middle of the corner. Its great to see the drivers caught out like that for a change.

Pffff...These RBR cars are the fastest yes,but if they are going to keep falling apart like this they will never win this championship,or one of the drivers may get seriously hurt!!!...

Anybody saw the highspeed save Sutil made ??....great car controll at 180+ mp/h i say!!...

can't wait for qualy...

spy.

Suspected that Sutil has a Gearbox problem and more hydraulics problem for Trulli. It's those RBRs again at the front... Wish Ferrari was there. 2 hours more and qualy starts.

Damnit... the McLarens are way off the pace. Hamilton is within a second of the RBRs... but Button is out... in 14th! G$#*(^%&🤬$*#*!!!!!!!!

No big surprises... Vettel first (and his last flyer, unnecessary though it was, served to cap his dominance) and Webber second. Big surprise is Alonso jumps Hamilton for third and Mercedes GP isn't far behind him.

It's been visibly stiff and bouncy for much of the season, but this current iteration of the McLaren seems incredibly unstable... porpoising, bouncing, fidgety, nervous... obviously, Hamilton is good at driving around a car's foibles... but no way is that car going to get him a podium tomorrow... not unless one of the top three guys has a brain fart in a corner. In fact... with drivers behind him in slightly slower but more stable cars, he might even lose a few places as the race wears on.

I just hope they figure out a way to sort it tomorrow to allow Jenson (and Hamilton) to find more pace. Alonso might be able to challenge the RBRs down the road with the Ferrari's good tire conservation... but it takes three to really spice things up.
