How can Bruno Senna be so slow! 1.3s down on his teammate. He disonors the name of his uncle. :grumpy:
Because there is something wrong with his chassis. He doesn't know what it might be, but he says that it's something at the rear of the car and suspects he may have damaged it when he ran over a kerb during practice in Barcelona. Hispania have not been able to find the cause of the problem - they haven't had the time to, much less get a new part in for him in less than a week. So he's going to have to race with a compromised chassis.

And I wouldn't go accusing Senna of dishonouring his uncle's name just because he hasn't scored points yet. For one, Ayrton never had to drive an oil tanker in his first season. And if the Toleman TG184 was like that, its rear end was probably behavin itself.

It got him a second place at Monaco and what should have been a first place. So it wasn't that bad, probably on the same sort of pace in comparison to the leaders as the Force India this season.

Bruno certainly has it worse than his uncle did. He should of got that seat at Brawn, that would really have kickstarted his career. Who knows, he might even have become world champion. Doubtful, but it would have been possible.

The thing that confuses me is that people say that he shouldn't have to live in his uncle's shadow, and then say that he should be at the top level because he is a Senna in motorsport. Working from memory here, correct me if I am wrong, but his best overall season results were a 3rd in British Formula Three and a 2nd in GP2. I have always wondered why that makes him such hot property as a driver, considering that were he of another name with such results we wouldn't dislike him, but he would be one of those "almost had it" drivers that we talk about as never being quite good enough.

Alonso is out of FP3 with 30-odd minutes left. He ran wide at Massenet and into the wall. There's a bit of damage, but I'm sure the Ferrari mechanics can fix it up in time for qualifying.

It just goes to show how important a good aero package is. Both Kubica and Massa are more competetive with the track that shows it's chassis, other than tracks that lend themselves to aero.

Qualifying may show a little change in the order, but the trick will be a clear track.( guessing this, I'm watching live timing)

EDIT: Will 2 hours be enough to repair Alonso's car?

A bit? He wiped out the entire right side of his car! He will be very lucky to start qualifying, remember that Ferrari can't get the car back till after FP3 because there is no perimeter road to move the car.

Q1 is going to be intense, the end of FP3 was a traffic jam .

Alonso has pretty much wiped himself out of the GP. I can't see them fixing damage that severe, well at least not for Quali.

Nah I agree. When I said he should have got the seat at Brawn, I meant then it would have given us a true indication of how good or indeed how bad he is, in comparison to the other drivers.

Like i've said in one of my other posts, the Senna name is always going to be a hinderance in some way or another to Bruno. Getting a seat in a decent team and proving himself as a driver is the best way forward. It's important that he gets out of HRT car as soon as possible in my eyes.

Interesting practice session. I still think the Red Bulls are running slightly heavier fuel. We'll see their true pace in qualifying.

Kubica is showing how skilled he really is here. He's been my second favourite driver behind Button for a number of years now.

So earlier this week on twitter I predicted Massa Vettel Kubica in no particular order as the top 3. Looking good :trouble:

100% agree. The HRT is literally getting toward Mastercard Lola levels. It isn't far off. You can NOT judge the drivers' performances when they are using such poor equipment. As well as that, I'm fed up not as good as ayrton this, dishonouring family name that etc. No, Bruno does not have 65 poles 41 race wins and 3 world championships becuase he has done 5 races in a car much worse than any car Ayrton drove, relative to the competition.

I wish I could see it. I don't get qualifying here ... :(

I hope he didn't damage the chassis because if he do, then it might be over for him. It would be a miracle if the mechanics can fix it on time for qualifying... That was a very hard impact by the way :scared:

His onboard footage was immense. He's pedalling that Renault far faster than it has any right to go.

To do that, he has to show consistency. Finishing races and be solid around other drivers.

So far he is pushing the car, so consistancy is almost a secondary motive. He must learn to drive at 9/10ths for most of the time he is in the car. Not 11/10ths.

A very difficult thing to do, in a car that's clearly sub-par, and in my opinion should not be in F1 yet. It's only a matter of time before this becomes a serious hazard. Hopefully not too serious.

Haha, well, the footage I got wasn't the best. All I could see earlier was damage to the suspension and front wing, but I've seen some better pictures now and I can definitely see it's worse than I originally thought. Lucky I'm not a big fan of Alonso. :p

Buemi is showing he has the talent to drive, beating both Force india's and his team mate. Although Sutil only did a 14 laps.

Alonso not taking part in quali today.

EDIT: Also rumours of rain on the way. Should be interesting.

Tough break for him, I hope the lesser teams don't make it easy for him.
They probably will. They're not really racing him, and if there's an accident it's going to lead to a SC. Plus you do not want to be pushing people off line and onto the marbles on a track like Monaco, we've seen where that gets people before.

Still, the new teams will have every right to block Fernando at every corner. You can't expect the new teams to move aside and let a top driver get back to the racing, because the fact of the matter is that the new teams are racing too. It is in scenarios like this that new drivers can prove their worth in F1 (such as Kamui last year- although unfortunately that doesn't seem to have translated that accurately this year ). Personally, if I was Lucas, Bruno or Karun I would be quite happy at this news, as it would be a chance to show my worth.

I reckon even with a 5 second advantage, he will have his work cut out to make it just into 12th.

The FIA has aparently set a maximum allowable time for slow laps in qualifying. Any car that takes more than 1min 22sec to get from Ste. Devote to Antony Noghes will incur the wrath of the stewards. I'm guessing it's intended to stop drivers from deliberatrely going slowly to avoid traffic and causing a bottleneck all on their own. I'm not sure what they'll do in the event of rain.

Excuse my forwardness but WILL THE GODDAMN DIRECTOR STOP MAKING US WATCH ALONSO STANDING IN THE GARAGE?!

I really hoped Kovalainen would pull a magic lap out then and get through.

That Trulli still exists, his record against his teammates at Monaco is quite amazing:
2009 - Trulli 19th, Glock 20th
2008 - Trulli 8th, Glock 11th
2007 - Trulli 14th, Ralf 20th
2006 - Trulli 6th, Ralf 10th
2005 - Trulli 5th, Ralf 18th
2004 - Trulli 1st, Alonso 4th
2003 - Trulli 4th, Alonso 8th
2002 - Trulli 7th, Button 8th
2001 - Trulli 8th, Frentzen 13th
2000 - Trulli 2nd, Frentzen 4th
1999 - Trulli 7th, Panis 17th
1998 - Trulli 10th, Panis 18th
1997 - Trulli 18th, Katayama 20th

13 out of 13 times he has beaten his teammate in qualifying here.

You jinxed him. Heikki was faster in all 3 practise sessions and in qualifying.

I'm not denying they have every right to, but I don't think they're going to earn any respect holding Alonso off on a tight track like Monaco

They're waiting for Alonso to make a face. His deadpan expression must be driving the race director mad.

Must say... the McLaren and its F-Duct system seems to be complete rubbish around this track. Surprised Hamilton can push the understeering pig so close to the front, but this doesn't bode well for their race pace.

Tough luck for Kubica to lose out in the last few seconds. He's picking that Renault up and dragging it along behind him!
