That was a race worth getting up at 2:30am for.👍

I just can't believe how long Alonso's car lasted and was still competitive.

Remember - account security is your responsibility, and if one of your "stupid friends" says something that gets you banned, that won't be acceptable as an excuse.

He should be banned for even having letters arranged in a post that make up a comment anything less than positive about vettel :sly:

i hate vettel

Pete that seems a really odd thing to say especially as you have it as your profile picture. Maybe tighten up your security on the account because you would not want that happening again

Good race. Would have been better if Hamilton had got past Sutil but i was pleased to see Alonso fail. Vettel deserved to win on the basis of the first three races. The Championship is wide open. Hamilton to win it?

Great race, that was worth staying up for. I woke up the entire house shouting when Alonso's engine went, and I hit the fluff out of a pillow.

Drive of the day should go to Alonso, gearbox problem and he was still going very quickly, it didn't seem like there was a problem.

Congratulations to Vettel and Red Bull, Finally on the podium. Also Rosberg did a good job and Kubica and Hamilton as well.

Great drive by Alonso considering all the problems and obstacles he faced. It just shows how much talent he has. Great for Vettle he deserves it. Too bad for Michael S. Great exciting race overall.

Yup, didn't notice anything wrong either until we got onboard footage

I wonder why Ferrari didn't just settle for the points. They knew there was a problem with the car and Alonso already had a few good runs at Button to no avail. Something for the engineers to work on maybe?

Good race, not pleased with the result really for my fantasy team, but whatever, I don't care because the championship is extremely close!
Massa 39
Alonso 37
Vettel 37
Button 35
Rosberg 35
Hamilton 31
Kubica 30

9 points between 7 drivers! Who would like to predict the drivers champion?

Great drive from Alonso with the bad gearbox, some good driving from the rookies too, Alguesuari and Petrov were particularly impressive. Virgin finally finished a race, and ahead of the other new teams! Chandhok miles ahead of Senna surprisingly, Lotus suffering reliability issues for a change, Toro Rosso doing well....and all that without rain!

I think it was going to go anyway. I had a thought that Alonso locking up and going down the inside was caused by the car failing rather than him trying to gt by Button. I doubt it though.

That's such a shame for Alonso. But there were a ton of reliability issues this race, usually early on. At least they mix up the championship a bit.

Wow, rd. 3 was very entertaining to say the least. I started cracking up out loud when Hamilton and Petrov started doing the triple digit shuffle down the straight. I've just never seen that before.:)
The racing was honestly very good, but I'll hazard to say bringing back a refined and punchier KERS will only improve it even more. It just seems cars can catch each other only to be stuck unable to get by thereafter. Cars would make (more) and efficient power with less fuel consumption allowing for smaller fuel tanks in turn. Anyway, all in all a great gp; I think teams/drivers are starting to now come to terms with the 2010 format.👍

Alonso has confirmed the engine went. And that can be attributed directly to the engine over-revving on each of those overtaking attempts. If he'd have taken it easy, he might have held the position.

Here's an interesting note on the specifics of Alonso's gearbox problem... it was the clutch. Alonso drove the whole race without a clutch. Seems that driving gently and smoothly into corners, he could focus on getting the downshifts right... which is why he was still going amazingly fast, but on every overtake attempt, he couldn't get the car to clutch properly, causing it to over-rev... causing damage that would, eventually, prove fatal.

I'm still of two minds... I think he should have just held position, but Alonso sees it differently... he only lost two points, and if he'd made it past Button, he would have gained an extra point or two. Which is why he pushed as hard as he could. Oh well, c'est la vie.

I thought the same as Alonso afterward; if you can't pass Button then might as well blow the engine. But if we learned anything in 2007, it's that points like that can bite you in the rear at the end.

Especially the blown engine point. Though the first engine change was precautionary... and they can still legally use it for practice, right?

It was a great race, yeah...

Happy to see the Mercedes of Rosberg up there in 3rd place, Webber in 2nd and Vettel also to all other drivers who made it to the chequered flag. BIG Congratulation to them. At least the money I spent for the ticket was worth it and I was expecting for rain to shower down the circuit.

It was a bit of a blow for Lotus, lost to the Virgin and HRT but hey, we have a heck of a race to go. Just how unlucky they were. Scumi had a really good start but that wheel nut thingy just let him down. Also a bit of dissapointment but yeah, that's racing and we pretty much remember that.

I guess let's look ahead to China then :)

Well a bit mixed in emotions. Good to see RBR with some good reliability, but spewing Mark let Seb go through in turn 1. Still a fairly exciting race for a dry track... who would have guessed that at Sepang.

Lewis had a flying first 2 laps passing with seemingly ease. He left the 2 Ferraris and his team mate, looking like they belonged in the second half of the field.
Rosberg, Kubica and Sutil all had strong races, all taking good points. Algersuari had a fine race, passing spectacularly, on the outside in turn 4 in particular.

Nice and close in the drivers championship, with 4 points covering the first 5 drivers.

Off to China where RBR picked up a 1-2 last season, should be a good result again and hopefully another good race in general.

Out of interest, I did the championship points as if last season's standard was still in place...

1st F. Massa 16 (0)
2nd F. Alonso 15 (0)
3rd S. Vettel 15 (0)
4th N. Rosberg 14 (+1)
5th J. Button 13 (-1)
6th R. Kubica 13 (+1)
7th L. Hamilton 12 (-1)
8th M. Webber 9 (0)

Ferrari 31
McLaren 25
RBR 24
Mercedes 17

Four points covering the first seven drivers...

I hadn't crunched the numbers, but I had it in the back of my mind, it would be as you have shown it to be.

Just goes to show, it's not worth the time of changing it in the first place.

I'm sure Rosberg and Kubica would agree.

Though McLaren might not at this point :D

Alonso had a stonking drive today, considering that his gearbox wouldn't downshift properly at any point during the race. Pity he ended the race with a straight-four, really.

Oh wait

I mean, three blown engines and one buggered gearbox. LOL at Ferrari reliability one one one one.

"This is a completely precautionary step: the engine, used by Felipe Massa up to the qualifying yesterday afternoon shows, some abnormal parameters, but can still be used on the track, according to the applicable rules, during free practice sessions."

And remind me... whose engines do BMW Sauber run? Not all Ferrari engines are wrapped up in a Rosso shell.

True, but as a team McLaren trail by 6 points in the old system = 3rd place. With the current, they trail by 10 points = 5th place. Both drivers may have dropped, but the team has gained.

Four points covering the first seven drivers...

Percentage-wise the new system is closer between the first seven drivers.

There's a LONG way to go at this point in time. Wait until the end of the season to reserve judgement!

I'm sure there was someone taking bets on when the first (unintentional) virgin related innuendo would turn up.

Good race!, shame about Schumachers car though, would have been interesting to see where he could have ended up.

But its great to see so many drivers so close in the championship!! shaping upto be a great season!

Does anybody know how this McLaren F-Duct thing works? Seems like it's been a pretty big deal since Malaysia; every team's now scrambling to use it.

Air comes in from nose cone into cockpit, here the driver can chose to close it by pushing leg against it or open it by moving leg away. From there the piping goes out to the rear of the car and over the rear wing, stalling it and reducing drag.

Teams will struggle to adopt it because it requires modifications to the crash structure which you believe required alot of cost in crash testing and re-submitting. Though one or 2 of the teams with range anxiety alterations might be able to include it.
