should have pitted right after Vettel came out in front of him.

The bloody chap should've been penalized for weaving over the track at least 3 times when Petrov was challenging him. The rules clearly state that weaving will be penalized with a drive-through penalty.

Top class drive from Alonso, he really gave it everything 👍

If we can just fix those reliability issues in check, Red Bull should do VERY WELL this season! Great race to all!

I was going to say the same thing before he started pulling a longer lead on Petrov... forgot about it.

Maybe the stewards are being (needlessly) nice this year after being on his case for the past three?

Lol, did you guys see Vettel signal that he would start champagne? It looked like he was wanking it.

How old are you!?

Can anyone confirm by the way, longest answer ever to a single question in that press conference! Vettel is not only fast on track he has a motor mouth!

Very impressed with Sutil today. Shame about Alonso. What might he have done though? This 1 second barrier is really starting to annoy me. So many times a driver will streak up to the cars infront only to hit a brick wall and have to dance to the car infronts tune. :irked:

You're allowed one move when challenging for position or in a braking zone. Hamilton wasn't doing either. But it was extremely naughty of him and most unsportsmanlike.

Alonso had a stonking drive today, considering that his gearbox wouldn't downshift properly at any point during the race. Pity he ended the race with a straight-four, really.

Oh wait,

Maybe some of you should remove your anti-rosso glasses.

I mean, three blown engines and one buggered gearbox. LOL at Ferrari reliability one one one one.

astrosdude - What's with all the double-posting? I mean, really. For a start, we're all watching the race with professional sports commentators, so another one is kinda redundant, but if you're going to go ahead with it anyway EDIT YOUR POSTS.

Great comeback by Ferrari and McLaren, well deserved podium for both Red Bull, it's a shame for Alonso, but good race anyway.

I agree, Hamilton should've been penalized, that was evident illegal weaving, a warning has not been enough.

And the flapping aero on Massa's car in race one...

And people are talking about Red Bull reliability? Really?

Err, no it wasn't. Like I just said:

What was the issue with Schuey's car boys??

My bad Famine, I was just getting excited! Won't happen again.

Looking back, I see how many of my posts you merged. Now I'm embarrassed!

Wheel nut failure. Not as in "wasn't done up properly and fell off" - this was before the pitstops. It failed. Literally.

👍

For reference, though I think your commentary is redundant, that's not an instruction not to do it again. There's nothing in the AUP that says you shouldn't do it and, as a moderator, I'd neither suggest nor insist that you do. If you like doing it, you keep right on doing it.

The "Won't happen again" remark was directed more towards the double posting. I appreciate your words of encouragement.

 Poor Schuey.

You're allowed one move when challenging for position

A rule that he clearly broke. His first move was defending his position over Petrov by swaying off to the right of the straight, that's where he should've stayed. Instead he swayed back to the far left, only to sway again to the far right. He clearly violated the rule of only one movement when he flew off to the left. I'm surprised Petrov didn't crash into the back of Hamilton, which makes me give Petrov give a nice thumbs up for his performance of today.

Hamilton has been drive of the day in my view, but he should've been penalized for his three moves over Petrov.

A rule that he clearly broke.

Err... how?

Petrov wasn't challenging him for position. He was behind, having just been passed and not gaining on Hamilton. Hamilton's moves were intended to break the slipstream and not block a pass - which is the intent of the rule.

This is why he was warned and not penalised. He didn't technically break any rules and the conduct wasn't dangerous - in that he wasn't blocking a car that was gaining on him and making unpredictable moves to shut off avenues of overtaking.

But it was very rude, very unsportsmanlike and very unnecessary. Your car is faster, make it stick.

As far as I know drivers use the slipstream on the straight to actually pass a car. Hamilton did pass Petrov, but that doesn't mean Petrov can't re-pass Hamilton. He was under his rear wing, and he had clear intentions of re-passing Hamilton to re-gain that position, even though he had the slower car around the track. If he had no intentions of re-passing Hamilton, Petrov would've stayed where he was and thus Hamilton would not have to wave his car from the left to the right and back.

From what I understand, you are allowed one covering move in defence for a corner. You are also not allowed to deliberately block a pass on the straight. The reason Hamilton didn't get a penalty is because he did neither.

Weaving on a straight isn't illegal on its own, we've seen it in a few races by drivers trying to get heat into their tyres. Hamilton obviously wasn't warming his tyres, but he wasn't blocking Petrov either, he was trying to prevent Petrov from catching his slip stream.

The stewards had it right in my opinion, while it wasn't a penalty, it could have been dangerous if Petrov was a bit closer, and as such wasn't sportsmanlike at all.

Effectively, the move by the book was legal and therefore a penalty was perhaps the wrong course of action, however the manoeuvre was unacceptable and a warning was perfectly acceptable, there couldn't be an excuse if he was caught doing it again. It's sensible stewarding that I am actually surprised at. Perhaps Johnny's ex-race driver influence paid off. I certainly think the ex-race driver steward is a good move by the FIA.

Vettel wins! WIN OF LIFE

So good to see Alguersuari and the Hulk score!

Algeysaurus had a stonker of a race... as did Hamilton - 8 places in the first lap apparently!! Nice work - If it had rained - he could've won it - I think that's what he was hoping for rain in between the soft and hard pit stops would've made his strategy amazing!!

i hate vettel

I've gotta say this now, that race was amazingly boring after the first 20-30 laps.

I severely hope not every race this season will be like this...Bring on the rain in China.

Ignore this comment. I got graped by one of my stupid friends!

Remember - account security is your responsibility, and if one of your "stupid friends" says something that gets you banned, that won't be acceptable as an excuse.

Oh... the race was quite exciting in parts up to the end... While most of the top runners had backed off to preserve their positions by the last ten laps ...whatever they may say about the new points system... whatever points you get is more than the zero points you'll get when you stuff it... some people were still pushing hard.

About the only interesting battle left near the end was the "will he, won't he" Alonso-to-Button situation... while I respect Alonso for giving it 110% all the time, at some point you've got to consider that you're simply torturing the engine banging it off the limiter on those mis-shifts, and simply back off and preserve that position.

What was I saying about zero points?

Hamilton's moves were intended to break the slipstream and not block a pass - which is the intent of the rule.

Which is why I bit off the comment before I made it. I was going to post that it seemed a violation from what you could see on the TV screens, but after a few corners, it became apparent that Petrov wasn't close enough and didn't nearly have enough pace to take back the position.

But it was very rude, very unsportsmanlike and very unnecessary. Your car is faster, make it stick.

Yes, yes it was. STAR commenters Steve Slater and Matthew Marsh (Alex Yoong was on break to catch the race live on his home circuit) were comparing it to something Schumacher would do...

Something along the lines of "can't stand being raced..."

Man, those Williams cars were slow. And Hamilton's move were legal as he didn't block Petrov.

And a big congratulations to Lucas di Grassi - who took his Virgin all the way!

Also - taking it to the fastest of the new teams this race - despite having to detune it at the end (I assume - there was no mention of it during the race)

My driver of the day was Hamilton... but special mentions for Alonso coping inordinately well with a misbehaving gearbox - and Alguesuari for managing some overtakes!
