At first, I thought, "Well, they drive on the other side of the road...

and then realized, "They drive on the other side of the car, too." So, I've got no good reason.
 
I saw the officals pictures a couple of days and i think it looks good for a Hybrid. I just don't understand why there is so much hate for the Prius and Toyota:confused:
 
The advantage of center gauges is that they can be mounted higher than steering wheel gauges. If you flick your eyes to the right to look at the instruments, the rest of the road is in your peripheral vision. If you flick them down to look at front mounted gauges, you can't see the road.

Of course, Honda goes Toyota one better by having the high mounted gauges above the steering wheel, in front of you, in which case your eyes aren't far off the road and have to travel less to read the gauges.

I like Nissan's system better. HUD. That's even higher up.
 
The old Prius had everything mounted in a little slit at the top of the dash if I remember correctly. That's pretty far up there. If Honda put theirs up any higher, you might be getting into dangerous territory because it'd block the view of the road.

Although I'd still question the logic behind that. Granted these are Prius drivers, but you aren't supposed to be watching the speedo when you're driving. So it really shouldn't be an issue at all.
 
My quip is that speedometers aren't styled like a fine watch face, with few markings where the hands point out the time. A speedometer is usually marked quite readably, and you shouldn't spend lots of time looking at the instrument cluster, just as you shouldn't be staring too long at the navigation or hybrid screen, anyhow.

Maybe because the hybrid info is in the center, the speed is in the center. I've driven a Prius, but I can't say I needed to look at gauges much more than any other car. Figuring out the gear/drive selector was far trickier.

Head-up displays are really the way to go, but it's never caught on. Perhaps there's a depth-of-field viewing issue that some drivers do not like.
 
Well, GM offers HUDs in quite a few of their cars today, so its hard to say that it "never caught on." Perhaps they are in much the same boat as Toyota, sticking with one thing in particular while no one else does it.
 
The problem of unreadably scrawly Toyota digital speedos was a bad one in the past few years, but newer Toyotas with center stacks have bigger displays.

Can't say i prefer it over frontal displays. Honda's Civic display is better. No, it doesn't cover the road... just part of the hood (what little you can see through the windshield), which isn't a big deal. Having used that, I'd say it's much more preferable than look down to see your speedo... but yeah, you really shouldn't be obsessing over your speed when driving, anyway.

Part of the hood? The only time you see the hood in the current Civics is if you're outside the car. :)
 
Actually, I should have said part of the dashboard... that part underneath the incredibly long windshield.

You mean taxi drivers? Where I live, all taxis now seem to be Priuses and non-taxi priuses are actually not that common.

Taxi drivers don't look at their speedo no matter where it is. Go to any city on the West Coast and every other car is a Prius. And all of those drivers drive looking at the speedo because they don't want to go above 60 mph because that would be destroying the planet.

Thats my point. Where I live, taxi drivers and Prius drivers are the same thing, so something has got to give.

Well, the lowering springs would lower the frontal area. It seems fit for people who want a car that drives more like a car.
 
With people making these their daily drivers, why not? In fact, the "Aero Tourer" looks pretty awesome, and if there are benefits to placing that kit on the car, I'd say its a halfway decent idea.

The lowering springs don't affect the area of the bodywork. In fact, the body kits probably add frontal area, if anything.

And I think this technically is rice. The body kits don't really seem to affect performance as far as I can tell.

The aero tourer is the perfect way to make your Prius look like an Insight...

I was thinking more along the lines of a MKVI Golf...

That would probably make the car even slower and less aerodynamic. If they want to tap into a nice aftermarket, they could offer real aero parts like airdamn blocks and underbelly planes.

+1. And covered rear wheelarches.

Eh, maybe. But at least they're offering power upgrades and still building kits for cars that are actually worth it. I still get giddy looking at the Civic Si Mugen.

I still don't see a difference in the awesome factor between a Modellista Prius and a Mugen Insight.
 
Mugen's insight actually has some of those flat underbody panels and functional aero that lowers the Cd, and, apparently, according to them, makes "Zero Lift."
