My thoughts? As a big of a Subie fan, I like it for the most part. There are, however, a few things that jump out at me that I'm not too particularly fond of. The lights seem a little too busy for the car and they look pretty awkward with the huge outer part. The lower part of the front end suffers from the same appearance of cheapness as the Lancer. It's not necessarily a cheap car, but the styling just looks too basic to be "nice." Maybe a bit of chrome or something could fix it. The car has huge fenders. It needs bigger wheels to fill them ASAP. And a little more offset wouldn't hurt. And, as I look around it, I get a nagging feeling of "I've seen this before." It's hard to pinpoint what it is, but everything about it just doesn't seem original. And for that again, it seems pretty basic.

I do enjoy the interior though. It looks like a very nice place to be. The only part I can complain about is that plastic flip-up panel. But that could just be personal preference against those.

I can't wait to see the wagon version! 👍

I do wonder though... The WRX has grown on me quite a bit since it first came out. I wonder if this car will only look better with time like the Impreza did. And Subarus in general seem to age pretty well, so we'll see if this car can too.

The back looks like a Lexus... I still like it... Am I crazy?

To each his own, and you are certainly not alone. I felt that the Legecy's were on the right track in styling with the '08's and expected better refinement of an already good design.

first thing I thought was Opel Insignia. that huge boot just creams middle-aged man who has lost his will to live.

I agree, I think it will look so much better (just like the concept shots do/did) as a wagon.

I think it will grow on me too, just like the hatch did!

It looks too tall and slab sided imo...
And it does kinda have a bit of Lexus/G35 in it....
I give it a solid "meh", last gen was much nicer looking.

Some renderings got out today, and it looks like this will be one of those cars you will have to learn to like (like the new Impreza), if anybody's going to like it.

HEROW, I AM HERE TO DO THINGS!

Early impressions? Ummmm, I'm not sure what to think.
IMO, both of these look much better than the concept on the previous page. I like the fact that they've now opened up the lower vent on the front instead of that big selection from the grill down.

I always liked the Legacy, but now they've killed it. The interior is a great step forward, but the exterior is hideous. It looks more like a Toyota :yuck:

Luckily it still has 4WD and boxer engines, but the elegance of the previous model has completely disappeared...

In the words of Larry Burns, "Whoa! Put her back in - she's not done yet!".

It sorta looks like it used to be a modestly attractive car somewhere along the line, and then just as they were at the clay model stage, some idiot attacked it with a scalpel. There's even more things jutting out of it than there were in the concept.

And what happened to those interesting rear lights? They've just replaced them with ones from a Kia Magentis or something... Not impressed.

Overall it seems okay, but it's a bit too bland. It looks like a Chinese version of a Subaru. And I don't know why, but the wheels emit massive cheapness.

Uhuh...I don't know why they flared the fenders so much if they were going to put those wheels on. Maybe they will offer something different when it comes out? I hope most of the cars don't come with those.

Some more photos of the production version:

IMHO, the main problem with this car is that the wheels are too small and unaggressive. Like the guy before me said. What this car needs is better rims... maybe 18s?

So, they slightly toned down the hideousness of the concepts front end; but then made the rear end look like every BMW ripoff made in the past 10 years.

Also kinda looks like a Lexux GS from behind.

I guess it could have been worse, but tbh I'd prefer the concept from the first post, especially the rear part, but also the front headlights.

I'm thinking this isn't the top-spec model. In fact I'm thinking this might be the basic one - see any foglights?

If it is the basic one, I don't really understand what they're playing at. Nobody sends out press photos of the basic spec model. Nobody. Even TATA tarted up the Nano with some alloys and colour coded bits before they got snap happy. What gives, Subaru?

That's a good point. Even the seats are cloth. They might have some sort of aero add ones that'll help the appearance a bit in higher trim models.

I was also thinking, since the wheels look small already, how bad will the look be when it gets lifted in Outback trim? And how will the huge fenders look on a wagon body?

Agreed that that is the base model - there also aren't any badges on the rear or anywhere else to indicate a 2.5GT or 3.6L.

I think those of us form the West Coast are required. And we had better because we'll surely be seeing them everywhere. I swear there has to be at least one Outback on every block in all of Seattle.

There is like 10 of them on my hill... To put that into comparison, there are 2 or 3 Prius.

Hmmm... Now isn't that interesting. Looks like everyone's gone and bought a Legacy before they ruin it.

Subaru sales have actually been steady all year. My guess is that all of the West Coast (Probably Subaru's biggest market) is going out and getting them after getting hammered by snow this winter.

6-year old WRXs are going for $3,000 over KBB, even in this economic climate in Seattle.
