I think I'm doing it. I talked to three different dealers today, and was going to go with whoever gave me the best price (three different color cars, but all I'd be happy with). Best price was the white one, which I like because IIRC every single 1966 Shelby Mustang made was white with blue stripes. Plus it's fairly easy to keep clean, good color for Nevada summers (planning on moving in a year or two).
Had the credit card out and was about to put a deposit on it when I remembered that I hadn't asked how many miles this one had on it, and I'm glad I did, because it has 500 miles and they let some guy take it home overnight and then he didn't buy it. Which kind of actually blew my mind. Most dealerships won't even let you go for a RIDE in one unless you prove you're ready to buy by signing up for financing or showing them you've got the 50 grand. These yahoos let some guy take it home overnight and put 350+ miles on it.
So at the point in my mind, invoice wasn't even a good price on that car anymore. It's basically a used car, and is essentially entirely broken in (probably not kindly). So I called my backup plan, which is the EXACT same car (options and color) except it's a 2012. Talked him down to a price that's 1600 more than the 2011 I was looking at. So I'm getting a model year newer and the car hasn't had a single test drive (4.8 miles on the odometer, and IIRC on Shelbys the computer won't even allow the car to make boost until it's got 5 miles of break in on it) for only 1600 bucks more. Which is actually (kind of) an even better deal than it sounds just because invoice went up for 2012.
Waiting to hear back from the dealer if they can get me a better rate, but doesn't really matter because if they can't I already have my own financing approved. Also waiting to see if I can get a Ford X-Plan pin, if I can it'll save me another grand and make the 2011 look like an even worse deal.
