Percat/Tander was what I wanted as well. I like Mark Skaife but Craig Lowdnes not so much... I usually pull for Jamie.

What an amazing race this year, Garth and the young guy just kept top spot. As usual the last 10 laps had me on the edge of my seat! 👍 Murph also did good considering how much time Simonsen lost, which put Murph in 15th! To make it back to 3rd is a usual Murph jump at Bathurst. 👍

What would you say to our American viewers to draw a comparison, Sharky? SPEED was drawing NASCAR parallels all day, so I'd have to say Garth Tander is our Kyle Busch. Talented, but you just wish he had no personality instead of the one he's got.

So close for lowndes!! Too close such a gap in that amount of laps is epic.

If that's the case then I kind of wish I wasn't cheering them on, cause I can't stand Kyle Busch. I really wanted them to win for Percat's sake as a rookie driver that did a great job and deserved it among such a tough, talented and seasoned group of drivers.

I don't follow NASCAR enough to make any worthwhile comparisons, but from what I do know GT being the Australian equivalent of Kyle Busch isn't too far off the mark.

Maybe someone a bit more clued up on NASCAR would be in a better position to give you an answer :)

I would have thought Rick Kelly would be our version of Kyle Busch, They both seem to think, that they are the best thing since sliced bread.

SO TRUE, I know Garth and Percat won. But seriously the CHAMPION of that race is without a doubt Lowndes...seriously amazing driver!👍

Edit: Also hats off to those Marshals who bravely put out the fire at T2 for Besnard.;)

Well, I don't really know too much about Busch except that he's unpopular. The thing about Garth Tander is that he always talks his chances up. If he had started the race from pole, he would have emphasised the importance of it - but he started from eighth or ninth, and on the grid was was marginalising the importance of pole. According to Garth Tander (and he's crew), he's always in the box seat, even when he clearly isn't. If Whincup's alternator had held up, Tander wouldn't have stood a chance ... but he won't acknowledge it. He dodged a bullet there, and with Lowndes, but in the debriefing, he'll talk about how he had it all under control and Lowndes was never a threat to him. Optimism and a never-say-die attitude are admirable in a driver - Lowndes has it; he'd try and win it even if he was driving a car with a wheel lodged in the windscreen (which he has done in the past) - but in Tander it's cockiness bordering in arrogance. When he acknowledges the role the team played, he seems to mention them as little as possible.

Kyle Busch always bows when he wins like some great concert pianist even when he is boo'd and eggs on the crowd. There are other things that he does as well. I'd say Kurt Busch is worse. He blames his car but not his driving and always brings his team down saying they did this too him. All while his team mates care is running like a dream up front. I'd say Kurt and Kyle are Rick and Tander. Kyle is more like Rick and Kurt is fake like Tander.

Well, I must stress that that is just my perception of Tander. I find him boring; he really lacks the X-factor that the other drivers have. Jamie Whincup is immune to any kind of pressure a driver applies. Craig Lowndes will try and win a race from a lap down. Shane van Gisbergen seems to be able to scare other drivers into giving him a position (particularly in the wet). But Garth Tander is just clinical and cold. There's no emotion in his driving; just criticism of those around him, a case of "I'm doing everything perfectly, so why aren't you?".

Agreed with all of that. Craig is an absolutely amazing driver, Garth was all over the place towards the end, and Lowndes was in perfect form, relaxed and still gained it all. He is very talented.

I must say also that Murph and Simo, dropping back to 15th...then Murph making a comeback to 3rd place...a flyin' Kiwi, thats always got tricks up his sleave:sly:...what a great guy...you know he plays GT too!:D:tup:

Have you seen the Vision Racer advertisement? IIRC, he says something.

Just now I managed to catch the last 40 laps of the race due to a delayed coverage. An awesome race in the end with Craig almost caught the rear bumper of Tander. Unbelievable they actually didn't make any mistake at all during the super intense fight. Bravo, this is surely among the best in Bathurst!

That Percat kid is doing very well!

Bathurst 1000...Finally on TV in the States! I admittedly only watched the first 10-20 laps and caught the last 8-9 at the end. And a close finish for all that distance run...

Speed used to show a few V8 races (edited for content, naturally) several years ago, back in the quiet doldrums of December-January, when there's nothing live, and programming was less NASCAR-centric.

Great stuff, but I've never been much of a Joy/Waltrip fan, so some of the announcers are dumbing-down the play by play for fans that have never watched a racing car turn right somewhere other than Watkins Glen or Infineon. On the other hand, I didn't mind hearing at least a few comparisons, since the concept of Touring Cars has never hit our shores with any lasting presence. Still, getting some new fans to road racing never hurts.

That said, Mount Panorama is one bad-ass track...YouTube doesn't do it justice.

Still annoying that I didn't get to watch the last lap. I sent Speed an email, and got a reply saying that the black-out was "automatic."

Well I'm on my way home back to Brisbane from Mt Panorama, had a great time, what an exciting race! We managed to get into the Team Vodafone pit garage and watch while there was a safety car period and they performed a pit stop and driver change on 88 and then a pit stop on 888.

Met Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife on Saturday and they signed my 2010 Bathurst winning 888 Commodore on the bottom.

We had grandstand seats on the final corner (Murrays) and also went up on the mountain and got a few shots through the cutting and the esses. Also went out on the track afterwards and got some great shots of the podium.

Tough luck for quite a few teams, and as said I have huge respect for all of the safety officials, especially those up the top of Mountain Straight for getting on to that nasty fire so quickly.

Good on Tander for taking it out, he'll be glad it wasn't a 162 lap race though as Lowndes would of had him for sure!

I'll post some shots up later.

Speed had 🤬 coverage. 50% was ads every 5 minutes, 25% was interviews and 25% was actual racing being shown. Interviews are all well and good, but I'd like to see the action on track, please.

Actual race was great to watch, although was hoping for a little more action. Although it's possible I missed most of it.

I barely saw any interviews and as always people overstate the amount of ads(they do have to pay to bring all that crap over there somehow).

I swear people are never happy.

First it was "They only show NASCAR"
Than "They only show re broadcasts"
Now "It's live but there are too many commercials"

I noticed commercials about every 15 minutes, on par WITH EVERY OTHER PROGRAM ON TV.

So why can't they split-screen the commercials like TSN does with F1 races? (as it should be, racing doesn't have regular breaks like ball and stick sports do) They made the ad side of the screen bigger, and cut off the sound of the racing, but at least they show what is going on.

Speed will never do that as long as they are owned by Fox. The full-screen ads bring in too much money.

The coverage was awesome for the 2011 Bathurst 1000. Didn't see every last moment of the race, but the insanity this race provides was surely there. The finish was incredible. Hands down, the most insane moment was that big fire that took place.

I was still pretty pleased with the Speed coverage. The biggest criticism- PLEASE don't say "boogity, boogity, boogity!" with this race! I'd grade the Speed coverage at B+ or A-.

Amazing race.

I was so happy for Tander and HRT. They have had a tough year, and what a way to get their 200th win.

No doubt TeamVodafone were probably better on the day, but I think Lowndes has to be happy with taking the championship lead. I bet he would love to finally be the #1 TeamVodafone driver.

Can't wait for the rest of the season. The battle between Whincup and Lowndes is going to be intense.

Edit: Wow! Speed didn't show the last lap? Really? It was easily the best part of the whole race, I was on the edge of my seat. Wow broadcasters are useless sometimes.... I'm sure it will be on youtube so check it out..

Speed showed the last lap here in the US. MÜLE is in Canada, though.

It was my 1st time being able to watch the Bathurst 1000. I really enjoyed it. Great finish!

I think what happened is that Speed's coverage cut off most recordings, but if you recorded the F1 race immediately afterwards, you saw the last laps.

Word to the wise, if you're recording any live sporting event, add one hour to the finishing time to account for yellow/red flags, safety cars, weather, overtime(s)...et cetera.

Watched the last 20 laps before the Grand Prix on sunday and they were epic. 2 or 3 tenths of a second after 1000 kilometers.
