Very happy to see Murphy get pole, he got his lap in at the right time.
Not really - it's not like Murphy had to try and predict when he would get a clear run. The running order for the Top 10 is decided in advance.

I think Spacegoat meant that in he was lucky to be scheduled for that moment to get pole. ;)

Wow, Cameron Waters got very lucky earlier today.

<video>
Mad style points for doing a complete 360 and carrying on as though nothing happened, but I guarantee that'll happen again in the race and he won't be quite so lucky. Winning a competition or not, putting a schoolboy in a V8SC with no experience and at Bathurst of all places is madness.

Yeah, I'm not a fan. I don't doubt that the kid has talent, he does have a considerable lead in the Australian Formula Ford championship after all, but I don't think it's wise to chuck him into the biggest main game V8 Supercar race with no prior experience. It's a grid spot which could've been filled up by one of the more competitive Fujitsu series teams/drivers. And don't even get me started on Grant Denyer...

As a race driver, Denyer is an excellent reporter.

As a race driver, Denyer is an excellent weatherman.
Fixed. That's what he was before he was a racing driver and commentator.

I kind of wish we could get the SPEED broadcast. Waltrip and Joy can't be worse than Matthew White.

...and before he was doing morning weather?

Race day. It doesnt get much better than Sir Jack Thompson opening the broadcast. That was fantastic.

Waltrip and Joy can't be worse than Matthew White.

I can give you much, much worse, John Smails and Jeremy Shaw... These 2 did the on track commentary at the AusGP few years ago, truly terrifying.

People actually say Mike Joy is bad? Are those people high?

My body is not ready for this race...

No, I'm saying he can't be worse than some of the guys we get. Not that he is bad, only that it is impossible for him to be utterly horrendous.

Just saw the replay of the shootout - good work GT, nearly chucking it in the wall down Conrod on your outlap. What a wally :dunce:

Yeah, I know what you were saying. But my point stands ;)

Here's some Mike Joy for you, for those who haven't heard him call a race before.

Ah, that's just Tander. He's like Casey Stoner - sure, he can drive fast, but he's a tosser.

HRT tried to appeal the Shootout result; they didn't like the way they got shafted by the weather. Which is a fair enough complaint, I suppose, but it is the risk they take.

I see Channel 7 has another wildly over-produced broadcast.

HOORAY FOR BRUCKHEIMER STYLE BOGAN MELODRAMA! I hope I'm not the only one who found that Jack Thompson rubbish absolutely cringe-worthy.

Bring on the the race already! :)

Sitting here in the UK watching it live on motors tv !!
Go team Vodafone, 888 Racing Rocks !!!!!
And would like to see Frosty and the Giz do well for Ford.

I'm annoyed that it's on so late here in the UK, I had intended to stay up and watch it but I am going to be up at 6am for F1, do they put a highlights package together and will it be broadcasted on Motors TV?

MORE BOGAN! Now they've got Lee Kernaghan performing something that is not the national anthem on the grid.

Do you get the sense that they're stalling for time?

I changed the channel at that point. There's only so much of that rubbish I can stand. What I want to know is why they can't start it at 10am like they used to?

Well, I just saw the ad for "Sunday Night" (read: tabloid journalism), and I have come to the conclusion that Channel 7 - which I rarely watch - puts the same bloated Jerry Bruckheimer production values into absolutely everything they do. The husky baritone, the dramatic language, the sweeping helicopter shots and sharp jump-cuts can apparently be found in everything they do.

 Good one, it's almost as though V8 management have no control over what the weather does!

Oh, wait...

Checking the odds at the NZ TAB, Lowndes and Skaife are odds on to win at $3.10. van Gisbergen and Mcintyre are third at $6 :D

This is probably the most Channel 7 I've watched all year. And it's making me more than a little sick. How many shots do we need of men in race suits with flames and crap in the background and water dripping off their foreheads?

Oh, God, now they've got Tony Abcess on the grid! Shouldn't he be off not making carbon policy? All they need now is Andrew Wilkie ...

It is a fair complaint (though you know that Tander would talk up the importance of pole if he was on it, and marginalise its importance if he is not). The shootout is built around the television broadcast so that viewers can see all ten laps. The usual time for an ad break is two minutes and thirty seconds, and with three ad breaks in the shootout, that's an extra seven and a half minutes of dry running that was passed over. Perhaps in the future, the provisional pole-sitter could be given the choice of whether they go first in the shootout or last.

I thought it was just me who saw just how incredibly annoying channel 7 and their personalities are. Thank you for showing me there's still hope left in the world!

On another note, enjoy the race! I'm off to steal the big TV in the lounge room. :trouble:

EDIT: Are they really still doing this pre-race prayer thing?

Shall we ready a list of Bathurst Commentary Cliches?

- It's a thousand-kilometre sprint
- Rain is on its way
