It's everything the Z/28 should have been, and more. The fact that they took out a bunch of sound-deadening materials alone just makes me say "YEAAAH." Ford knows what they're doing with this car, and I couldn't be happier about them avoiding the sticker pack feel of the previous BOSS versions.

I'd love to see them bring out a "softer" Mach 1 with the same powertrain package. Just for the shaker hood, really. But Ford won't do it, and that's okay with me. We don't need that many Mustangs.

Does it have leaf springs? or the whatever set up everyone says european cars use that I dont know the name of?.

Time for a History Lesson:

The new Boss reminds me alot of what Ford did back in 1995 with the Cobra R model. It was a stripped down Mustang with a 351 (came only in white). It had no Backseat, no Radio, no A/C and equipped with a larger fuel cell. In a nutshell it was a factory Race Car and to buy one you had to have a race license as a prerequisit to purchase the car. They did this to keep the collectors from putting the car in a garage, Ford wanted these bad boys on the track since there were only 250 made. I was priveledged enough to see this beast back in 1995 at Mike Mckenna Ford in Kailua, Hawaii while I was stationed in the Navy at Pearl Harbor. I also recall the sticker price being in the range of $36,000.

Just revealed at Laguna Seca today the 2012 Mustang Boss 302.

Actually, the Boss Mustang was revealed at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. It's been racing the Grand Am series this year. Looks good, though. Nice to see the Boss is back. :)

The racing version we've known about for a while. This is the street car, which we only learned about a possible unveil a week or two ago. Now it's here.

lol. yeah. But, we knew it was comin' Besides the Grand-Am versions are mainly Showroom Stock. They have some slight power and weight tweeks and no seats, but, still. Anyways, it's nice to see it coming. Although, I think, since Grand Am is owned by Nascar, other than the Daytona Prototypes, all the cars in Grand Am have to be Production models. This isn't the first time a racing model has appeared before the street car. The Charger R/T appeared in NASCAR before it was released to the public. But NASCAR does a bit more changes to their cars than Grand Am does. Anyway, looks good. Now all we need is a new Mustang Fastback. the 2011 was ALMOST a fastback, but not quite.

You know, with all of the development mules running around on the streets, I'm guessing Chevrolet was going to officially announce the Z/28 any day now. GM must have a gross worth of egg on their face now that Ford beat them to the punch with this, particularly since they did it with a car that actually attempts to live up to the name its badge is sourced from.

I'm pretty sure I just saw one an hour ago in a shopping mall parking area. It was just like the one above. I asked my dad if he could go by it but he was in a rush and couldn't be arsed. 👎 Car looked pretty good, but it was dark and the yellow lights from the lamp posts didn't help.

With a case of the new Z/28 heres an interesting fact:
A stock Camaro V8 has 426hp and does 0-60 in 4.6
A Hurst Camaro V8 has 600hp and only gets 4.3-4.2
So what does GM expect from a 556hp Camaro? Go Mustang. Ford has done evrything right, the V6, V8, GT500, these BOSS 302 models. Only one to fault is the 2011 GT350, only because it will have the same performance as a GT500. Guess it's just a silly name revival.

If Chevy wanted a real man's Camaro, they shoulda looked at FoMoCo. Make an NA engine, with some sweet upgrades all over and a nice look to make people flock to the car. Just my 2 cents.

GM must have a gross egg on it's face now that Ford beat them to the punch with this.

And think, the Camaro's at least been here for a year-and-a-half, Ford got all the models rolling from the start. Keeping us all occupied.

I'm guessing that if the car doesn't show up at Woodward next week, it'll be in Los Angeles. Even though the spy photos are suggesting that it has the LSA, GM may be fooling us with that rather stupid tag inside the car. But, given that they're benchmarking the GT500, its hard to say. I'm willing to bet that a good amount of carbon fiber finds its way into the car based on what they're doing with the Z06/Z07/Carbon/ZR1 Corvettes, and I'm willing to bet the Camaro gains the Magnaride suspension from the CTS-V, along with its totally awesome seats.

I don't think its going to be a substantial performance increase over the standard Camaro, but I do think its going to be enough to justify the price. It's just a damn shame they didn't get the badge names right.

Maybe with the money they saved on said engine...? I'll never get over the odd badge order for the Camaro either. I don't see them using a whole lot of carbon fibre, but we can hope, because that car is in dire need of a weight loss program.

This Boss just shows Ford's still on a roll with the Mustang. 7500rpm redline?! Hell yes. If all my plans pan out, I was actually curious about a lightly used E92 M3 in two years time, but this may have actually dethroned that as my target. Never thought I'd say that about a Mustang, but Ford keeps offering more and more reasons to look at one every couple months.

Goddamn is that black one ugly. Who thought red trim was a good idea?

e: Wait, I forget- can we say damn here?

Re: Exhaust

The "sidepipes" you see there are for sound purposes. They are blocked off by a plate from the normal exhaust pipes. When the plate is removed, sound flows through those pipes, but not much of the actual exhaust gases. There's no performance gain there, it's just for an adjustable exhaust volume.

I think that cars like this are going to do a lot to help Ford out. Sure, the cars won't make them much money, but they tell people that Ford knows what they're doing and know how to do a car right and how it should be. I've never liked Fords but with cars like these, I'm starting to recommend their lesser cars to other people.

I wonder what the price is going to be on the 302? I own a 2003 Mach 1 and I'm looking to try to get a Challenger in a few years, but maybe I'll hold out longer for a used 302 depending on the price.

$38,900 is the figure I've been getting (I've been looking myself). While you're still paying more for the Boss 302 name, that's still a pretty good price. A little high, but justifiable.

That's dirt cheap for a car of that performance, you Americans don't know how good you have it for fast cars. I can't get a car that fast for more like $80k.

I'd love to get one in the Parnelli Jones colors. Hopefully they get some pics of one with that color scheme up soon.

The Laguna model's red grill should be just a pinstripe around the grill. Kinda like how Lancia did the HF integrale.

Damn it I need to get rich so I can get one of these. Haven't been this excited about a car in a while.

This is my future car (limited production? Doh!). FYI, faster then the Audi R8 and the GT500 in Motor Trend test around Laguna Seca. No doubt best collectors sports car for the price tag.
