2012 Nissan GTR [0-60: under 3 seconds]

American companies own a certain percentage of the japanese car companies. Hence the U.S gets rebadged cars. Well in GMs case

In the hundreds of cars I have witnessed the unveiling of, there has never really been a car I have read about and looked at that has managed to send chills down my spine. That was, of course, until the current GT-R. 2.7 seconds in a car that seats four, is actually insurable, an every-day driver and costs a tenth of the hypercars that it beats despite weighing nearly two tonnes. Nor have I ever seen a car as consistently, quickly and effectively upgraded throughout its life-cycle. If anything, this car is underrated. The GT-R: simply unbelievable.

EDIT: I wonder if, at the end of its production, Nissan could release a last hurrah version with an extremely large power figure (e.g., a limited run tuned to ~800bhp). To take the 0-60 crown from the Veyron would be both astonishing and satisfying.

Oh yes, it would be lovely to see the germans biting their nails in frustration as GT-R keeps upgrading and evolving into a better machine almost each year. Oh, wait, they already do..

I'd imagine VAG's response to be something along the lines of: 'zis ist unnacceptable! Ich propose Bugatti Blitzkrieg, powered durch nein less than our stockpiles von nuclear missiles!'

I have faith in the Turbo. ;)

Yeah, despite of significant weight advantage Turbo is still running neck to neck with 'zilla. Now, if only Nissan would bring in the 7-speed transmission that was in the Tokyo concept, then things would get reaaally interesting.. But, that is unlikely, as it performs pretty damn well as is.

BMW sell the exact same cars in Europe and Asia as they do in USA.
1-series hatchback.

Audi sell the exact same cars in Europe and Asia as they do in USA.
A1.

If you expand Audi to include Volkswagen:
Scirocco.
Fox.
Polo.
Touran.
Golf Plus.
Sharan.
B7 Passat.

Mercedes sell the exact same cars in Europe and Asia as they do in USA.
A-Class.
B-Class.

This is completely ignoring how North American market cars usually have nearly completely different engine/drivetrain lineups from home market European cars.

TRUE.

They don´t make special models for USA.
Volkswagen Routan.
Volkswagen NMS Passat.

I think you miss understand the point.

The point is that BMW, Audi, Mercedes do not create cars solely for the North American market.
The only brand out of those three is BMW with the special elongated versions of the 5 and 3-series for China.

Audi is Audi, VW is VW. VW owns Audi yes but they own Bugatti aswell.

I think you miss understand the point.

No. I understand it completely. The original point was this:

I really think this has a lot to do with the markets being completely different. The majority of Accords, Camrys, etc are made in and for the US. Almost every manufacturer has a large degree of variance in the lineups from country to country.

You said that was wrong, because the Mercedes, Audi and BMW lineups were identical in all regions. But even though you cherry-picked three luxury car manufacturers to support your point (take a look at the lineup of a Japanese auto company between regions and be shocked), there are still wide variances in the model lineup between the North American and European markets for those three companies. Just because those companies do not make cars exclusively for the North American market does not change the fact that the North American market and European market are quite different (and all three of those companies have made special NA-only models in the past), nor does it change the fact that it is rare to find an automobile company that does not make cars only for the North American market.

Back on topic...

I see it when I believe it. Bending the laws of physics a little with that 'claim'.

The laws of physics are not bent or broken. Simply, give a car enough power, enough traction and enough grip, and such times are easy.

What has been pushing this PR war for the past few years is the fact that tire technology has been getting better and better... giving us new road tires that have more and more grip. Add to that the insane amount of set-up work manufacturers perform with their cars at the Ring... hundreds or thousands of hours of testing, calibrating, tuning... and you have cars that set faster and faster times.

Think of it as an extended practice session for a race. Imagine how fast F1 records could fall if teams spent all year testing and tweaking at just one track, bringing new parts, new set-ups and new tires over the course of the year.

I present the Nissan GT-R EGOIST.

This "Egoist" shares a common concept as "Spec M" for R34 GT-R. It comes with all the comfortable equipments you can think of in ultimate quality, but still laps Nurburgring at about 7min20sec. It's price is nearly double of the base GT-R.

[Press Release from Nissan]
EGOIST is the first and only Nissan GT-R in the world exclusively created by Takumi, or "master with greatest skills." Each customer can choose a combination of interior colors among 20 choices. In addition, the Bose sound system is exclusively tuned according to the driving position of each driver to meet every customer's needs. This is the ultimate expression of the Nissan GT-R.

- Interior
Customers can choose a combination of interior colors among 20 choices, four upper area interior colors and 10 lower area interior colors. Interior parts are sent to Seton Company, Inc. Muelheim an der Ruhr in Germany and leather master craftsmen sew and stick carefully selected leather by hand.

- Seats
Seats are an exclusive quilted design with single and double stitching combined in a reticular pattern. Enhanced body grip performance (suitable for racing circuit driving), smoothness and fit are all provided.

- Wajima Lacquer (Maki-e) Emblem
Wajima Maki-e with deep coloring and glaze created by Mr. Sakae Kubota, an accredited traditional craftsman for Japanese lacquer, is used for the GT-R emblem at the center of the steering wheel. The beautiful coloring of Maki-e changes as time goes by.

- Bose Precision Sound System
Specially developed carbon composite-based woofers, which can cancel vibrations through their high rigidity and damping, are installed. In addition, sound quality is adjusted by Bose exclusively for each owner, depending on individual driving position.

- Carbon Rear Spoiler
EGOIST adopts a dry carbon rear spoiler (also used in the SpecV). Providing stable aerodynamic performance, even when driving at more than 300km/h, the rear spoiler gives an intense look in the rear with its black carbon color.

- RAYS Forged Aluminum-Alloy Wheels
Lightweight and highly rigid forged aluminum-alloy wheels, also used in the SpecV, reduce unsprung weight and help provide a supple ride feel. Newly developed five-layer Blue Sword Chrome Color Coating is adopted.

- Titanium Exhaust System
EGOIST uses a Titanium exhaust system, also used in the SpecV, providing agile accelerator

I hope this hasn't been posted before:

The Nissan GT-R has received a number of engine and suspension refinements for the 2013 model year, all designed to enhance its already legendary performance. The latest video that we have received shows that the acceleration time from 0 to 60 mph improved by about two tenths of a second in comparison with the 2012 model.

According to the video (embedded), the 2013 Nissan GT-R does 0-60 mph in 2.72 seconds. That's better than the majority of today's supercars and a real proof that the GT-R is indeed one of the fastest cars one can buy today.

The test was conducted at the Sendai Hiland Raceway in Japan on November 8th, 2011. The 2012 Nissan GT-R was tested at the same track last year and completed the 0-60 mph run in 2.9 seconds.

We are waiting for an official confirmation from Nissan.

Thank you Jay and somehow I let a whole year fly by as I been raving about it getting up to 530hp :). Also everytime I do a search I use 2012 as that's what I figured for a early year release car. Now I'm playing catch up and the 2013 has me . I still can't put it over the classic Skyline GTR's in my mind but nobody can deny it as one of the best. I feel like a dunce.

When would a SpecV be released usually it's the next year correct?

Nissan GTR to get Track Pack optin for UK only.
Isn't the 2012 Nissan GT-R already track-ready? Sure. But Nissan's new Track Pack, a 10,000-quid option for UK buyers, makes a track-day beating a bit less taxing on the GT-R's bits and a little more rewarding for whoever's driving.

The point here is shortening lap times and reducing strain. That, by adding more track-focus to the GT-R's braking and suspension systems. Additional cooling ducts reduce temps on the front discs by as much as 100 degrees during track use, Nissan says. Similar ducts behind the rear wheels add extra breeze to the rear discs as well.

Suspension-wise, the the pack adds spring rates optimized for track use, though the GT-R's adjustable dampers remain untouched. Also untouched is the The engine retains the same spec as the standard 2012 GT-R, or 530 hp and that bat****e 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds, conservatively.

The Recaro front seats have been fitted with a higher-grip material, to help retain arse position during cornering and braking. Rear seats? Out! Removed to save weight.
On the inside, you can tell it's a Track Pack model by the seats' blue bolsters and emblem on the center console. Bystanders, or pit lizards, can ID the track back by the six-spoke RAYS alloys with gloss-painted hubs.

Place your orders now, mates. We Yanks aren't invited.

http://www.autoblog.com/2012/01/21/nissan-raises-gt-r-base-price-again-this-time-to-96-820/

Nissan has raised the base price of the 2013 model, up a full $7,000 USD to now settle in at $96,820.

over $11K over the 2012 black edition like mine for 2013 black edition.. 96,100 vs 107,600.. mainly because the carbon spoiler taken from the SpecV costs around $10K

HP increase is only 15 more so i picked up a midpipe to equal that out :)

0-60 for the 2012 was 2.88 0-60 for the 2013 is 2.72 but that was done with the JDM track pack version thats lighter and has different suspension

M5 is clearly outclassed in this one.. What were they thinking? Good numbers from both though, especially when you consider that M5 is heavier and RWD only..
