Don't worry about a desperately needed real rivalry folks, NASCAR wrote the scripts and will pay Newman and Busch to not go near each other on-track for the rest of the year. :dopey:

Tinfoil hats; off; now.

For a highly educated race car driver with an engineering degree from Purdue, he's not too bright. He is a bit of a prick in real life. We went to MIS in 2010, had a meet & greet with several drivers. He was one of them. He is not a very approachable human being.

A lot of people in my area are fans of his because he's a "local boy". He's mid level driver at best regardless of equipment.

He is a bit of a prick in real life.

No matter how bad of a person he may be, there isn't a 52 minute YouTube video of his various misdeeds. I also fail to see how him being unapproachable makes him a bad person(unless there is something else you didn't mention).

Language Warning

Although you could make a TimeLife volume set of his crashes at superspeedways.

There are lot of drivers who can seem like a prick because they will walk away from signings or whatever but fans fail to sometimes let them have a life too. Newman just comes across as a person who doesn't really like the spotlight and prefers to just race and go home not hang out and all that. Everyone is different in how they are, I could even guess how a life of a driver is sometimes.

Nice to see Pastrana racing short course this weekend at Chicagoland, but sucks I doubt he will be at GRC Saturday in Bristol.

I get what you're saying. This was also a special charity event (Michigan Cares) with disabled kids and their families. We were a group of maybe 50 people total in a private room (The Michigan Room). After drivers qualified, they had the choice to come visit. We met I think 10 or 12 drivers, one of the largest turnouts. Drivers made a short speech, then took questions from us, took pix, signed stuff for everyone in the room. We met Front Row Joe, David Reagan, Regen Smith, Bowyer, Biffle, Juan Pablo, Ryan Newman, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie and a few others I can't recall. Jr and Kyle were supposed to come but didn't.

Newman had a smug attitude of us being beneath him. Joe stood out as one of the nicest guys. I'm not saying Newman is a bad person. I know he and his wife do a lot with charities. Most of these guys do. I've never met Jack Roush, but in TV interviews he rubs me the same way. Like he can't really be bothered with the common folk. Bowyer was really down to Earth.

I can absolutely see Kyle being a jackass. At least he's on a team with an owner who is working with him on his attitude and behavior. Joe Gibbs has a good reputation in NASCAR and his time in the NFL.

Exactly, and we might catch them at wrong time even at things like you went to. Fans always have good and bad meetings with some drivers, Jr for me is one of the worst with attitude issues and common folk while people who get beat up like Kurt were super nice.

Front Row Joe is probably one the most laid back, nicest guys I've ever met. I'm pretty good friends with someone who works for him, and funny thing is you can walk through a garage and usually he is just hang out not really doing a whole lot.

Roush rubs wrong from all angles, the more I pay attention the more I see as very shady to people who don't make him richer or more popular. We could talk for days on my theories on things with him. I have a hard time pulling for his drivers because of and it's a catch because I like Pastrana but I like him in general not the team.

You had an issue with Jr.? Just wondering because I've never heard of Jr. being an ass hat.
Not very shocked though, he barely gets time to do anything without constant media, fans, sponsor spots, etc.

Yea, Martinsville last fall. He came up to VL after the race to talk to Jimmie. He was signing some stuff and only signed a few things for folks before kinda blowing others off and hoped on his golf cart. Granted it was one of those times he probably wanted to go home too. My point wrong place wrong time and it can rub someone the wrong way.

Some people may only have that one encounter with the person and never have another.

We could learn more on the sale of Phoenix racing today.

Jayski.com
UPDATE: James Finch isn't one for counting unhatched chickens. "We're in a holding pattern until (Wednesday)," Finch said Tuesday as he tried to finalize the sale of his Sprint Cup racing team, Phoenix Racing. "They've sent in some paperwork today, and they're supposed to wire some money (Wednesday). Until then I don't have anything to say until (Wednesday). "Hopefully by (noon) or 1 o'clock I can tell you the deal." Rumors have persisted that Harry Scott, co-owner of Turner Scott Motorsports that competes on NASCAR's Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series, is the potential buyer. Finch, however, neither has confirmed nor denied that, and he has offered few clues as to who the prospective buyer might be.(News Herald)(7-16-2013)

Hopefully the sale doesn't fall through.

The only people I could see being interested IS Turner Scott Motorsports. I don't really see who else would be interested. TSM is already a Hendrick supported team and by buying a team also with hendrick support, that's already a strong Cup package (even if its just one car).

Also, so James Finch is for real this time. I've heard many times that he would say his team might be shut down or sold just for attention. I also heard (admittingly according to Kurt Busch anyway and his Documentary "The Outlaw") that James would turn down sponsors that would come just to "land a bigger sponsor". Don't know how true that is, but that just seems...daft in today's economical conditions.

I tend to believe what Kurt said. Everyone team across the Cup field has landed a sponsor even for a few races outside Finch lately. You can't count ones that Kurt or Austin brought either, Guy Roofing was largest in awhile but no longer there either (I bet hauler still is wrapped in it though). You can't be small fish in big pond and expect to hit home run like that, Finch needed to work on few races then add to it and as performance came so will sponsors.

I've met a lot of drivers myself.

Some of the worst
Jr.-He ignored everyone and literally ran to and from his golf kart
Elliot Sadler-He thinks he is an amazing driver sent from the heavens and asked me why I was annoying him.

In the middle
Harvick- I'm sad to admit, but I was close to changing drivers after the last experience I had with him. It was a celebrity softball game at a local baseball stadium and him and Boyer were there. So I left school early to get there in time. I was totally decked out in my Harvick clothes I show up at the event. I also brought one of my most prized Die-cast along to see if he would sign it. So blah blah blah he signs other peoples stuff and looks right at me then walks away... Blah blah blah I ask him to sign my car (very politely actually) and he give me a dirty look then grabs the car out of my hand and shoves it back. I was really upset but I understand to a certain extent. I wouldn't want people asking me for my autograph all the time, but if it would make someones day if I take 1 second to sign their item I would do it. There were a few other times where he actually said hi to me and was smiling but I was really upset about that.
Gordon-Had a few occasions to see him and he wasn't a total ass but he didn't seem happy. He wouldn't sign anything but he shook hands with everyone (pretty cool I guess)

The nicest
Boyer- I was really considering changing drivers just because if how awesome this guy was. Very very very cool guy.
Johnson- actually took time and signed practically everyones stuff. He was a cool guy and no matter how cocky he is or how much he cheats I will respect him for being friendly to his fans

Others here and there
Hamlin- I said thanks to him for signing my race program and he said your welcome (he answered at least)
Kyle Busch-He asked if anyone wanted him to sign anything but nobody did
JPM-Had a conversation with him but he was in a rush
Biffle- Signed his fans stuff first then everyone else's.

I'm done now :)

Out of all the drivers in NASCAR, Bowyer is probably the closest to average guy as far as how he views alot of things and handles his career.

But we could sit here all night and talk about this.

I have to say MWR is becoming a power house team, as much as I thought getting rid of David was a crappy move with how they handles it. They have brought in some talent that was possibly not in right setting to shine.

Where'd you meet Kyle and Denny?

I've met J.J. Yeley, David Reutimann and Dave Rogers. Of course, next on my hitlist is Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Darian Grubb.

Biffle is a great guy. I bumped into him walking to the stands at Pocono 3 years ago. I wished him good luck and its surprising how much they blend in when they AREN'T in firesuits. I've also met Yeley, Vickers and Allmendinger (Allmendinger twice).

I was nearly ran over by Kurt Busch though.

I met Kerry Earnhardt on Sunday at Goodwood, really nice guy. Signed my program cover and the picture of Dale Snr's car inside the program before having a chat with me about the car and what it was like to drive up the hill.

I met Juan randomly right next to the scanner tent at Martinsville and also met Larry Mac while I was heading to my seat.

Boris Said actually owns Petty's shop? I'm amazed because the shop is literally a stone's throw away from Roush HQ

No...fricken...way. Are you serious?

And in another "Weird" theme...

Danica, to the couch!

Danica-Patrick-922x520.jpg.main.png

Yep, Danica Patrick had to sleep on a couch after taking out Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

In Jay Leno’s “Tonight Show”, she said that she had to sleep on a couch after wrecking her boyfriend Ricky.

“I did sleep on the couch that night,” Patrick told Leno.
When he asked what it’s like to race Stenhouse, she said, “I just need to give him more space.”

Funny how they both share an apparent lack of spacial awareness.

And hold on, Nationwide race is on a Sunday? That's also supposedly when the ARCA race is held. Any idea as to the time?

As for the paints, abit weird to see Pastrana in a car that isn't giving your eyes cancer

Yep, it's on Sunday!
"The NASCAR Nationwide Series races at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill., on Sunday, July 21, and ESPN will have a live telecast of the 300-mile race. NASCAR Countdown airs at 2:30 p.m. ET with the race's green flag at 3:17 p.m.

I like that NextGen scheme, and here is the car for Indy and Iowa.

It's a promo car ^ but still is a nice scheme.

PS: Here is Ryan's Truck for Eldora.

And Jimmie's for Pocono.

Once Crashica's novelty wears off she will be out of Cup. She is probably the worst driver in Cup right now. I think Morgan Shepherd could probably do just as good as her. Her frequency of crashes has to be extremely expensive.

Hopefully she realizes this so when the time comes, perhaps at the end of next season and shes let go her fall from fame wont be so hard on her. She can still make a nice living driving in the United Sports Car League for a backmarker team or something similar
