People, notice the two other DRIVERS they show, Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt. This is about becoming the best ever and those two are regarded as the top 2 of all-time by almost everyone. Jeff Gordon is one of my favorite drivers, but the reason he isn't in this is because Jimmie is already ahead of him with 5 titles to Jeff's 4. The only two guys ahead are the two I already mentioned above. It's not all the past winners, it's the two drivers that Jimmie is chasing in number of titles. Johnson will have to tie his legacy with Petty and Earnhardt's.

What are you talking about? Why does Johnson have to "tie his legacy".

Expect ESPN to make the same commercial for Jeff if he wins the championship this year. I'm almost sure of it!

EDIT:Gordon will be tied with Jimmie in Championships if he wins this year.

Jeff won't win a title, he's only a couple years from a Jeff Burton style slump away.

He already had a Jeff Burton style slump in 2008 and 2010. They preceded to kick Burton's A** because of it.

Gordon - 9th 8th 10th in those seasons.
Burton - 6th 17th 12th. Considering how the chase artificially locks people away from field...

Do you work in the advertisement department of ESPN? Or is slinging bullcrap from the hip your goal more so as the chase gets closer?

Jeff gordon makes the chase and wins his 5th championship, I'm calling it :)

I'll make a bet with you then, if Jeff Gordon wins the chase I will leave GTP for a year if he doesn't then you have to. Sounds like a good deal to me considering you're quite sure of yourself.💡

If I'm wrong I won't post here for two whole months!:nervous::nervous::drool:

I like my idea better.

Why would you want to leave GTplanet for a year :P

At this point in Jeff's career, he probably feels he has nothing left to prove* which is why the fire isn't there like it was in the 90's.

*Gordon's Key Career Stats as of last race*

72 poles (3rd all time)
87 wins (3rd all time)
303 top 5's
425 top 10's
4 championships (4th all time)
20 consecutive seasons with at least 1 pole (tied with David Pearson for longest all time streak)

With stats like that and being part owner of Jimmie Johnson's car, I believe Gordon is content with his success on his way to becoming a first-ballot Hall Of Famer when he decides to retire. 👍

Jeff has already stated that he wants to win one more championship before he hangs up the helmet.

Like I said, I'm willing to bet you if you're not willing to do the same obviously you don't believe the trite in your post, you're doing it for a rise and just doing it on purpose.

If you count stats including his car owner's, doesn't he have the 2nd most championships of all-time (only behind Hendrick)?

Okay fine, if jeff doesn't win the chase I'll leave GTplanet for one year.:drool::drool:

By the way, while relating to the commercial, has anyone else seen Cale Yarobough's 28 in there?

And I don't think he needs the ownership of the 48. Those stats show he is one of the best, and then you add to that being the face of NASCAR for years, before and after Sr., and I will state he is a first ballot lock, and probably has one of the biggest voting margins of all the inductees, behind Sr., The King, Big Bill, and Bill Jr.

Just think if they hadn't come up with the Chase format...

Some research time with lengthy post ahead reveals Jeff would be a 6 time champion:

2004 Championship Standings (Chase Format)

Kurt Busch (6,506 points)
Jimmie Johnson (-8)
Jeff Gordon (-16)
Mark Martin (-107)
Dale Earnhardt Jr. (-153)
Tony Stewart (-180)
Ryan Newman (-326)
Matt Kenseth (-437)
Elliott Sadler (-482)
Jeremy Mayfield (-506)

2004 Championship Standings (Old Point System)

Jeff Gordon (5,042 points)
Jimmie Johnson (-47)
Dale Earnhardt Jr. (-173)
Kurt Busch (-247)
Tony Stewart (-341)
Mark Martin (-445)
Jamie McMurray (-445)
Matt Kenseth (-666)
Ryan Newman (-681)
Elliott Sadler (-727)

2007 Championship Standings (Chase Format)

Jimmie Johnson (6,723 points)
Jeff Gordon (-77)
Clint Bowyer (-346)
Matt Kenseth (-425)
Kyle Busch (-430)
Tony Stewart (-481)
Kurt Busch (-492)
Jeff Burton (-492)
Carl Edwards (-501)
Kevin Harvick (-524)

2007 Championship Standings (Old Point System)

Jeff Gordon (5,455 points)
Jimmie Johnson (-353)
Tony Stewart (-706)
Matt Kenseth (-737)
Denny Hamlin (-832)
Kyle Busch (-870)
Carl Edwards (-881)
Clint Bowyer (-899)
Jeff Burton (-906)
Kurt Busch (-1,084)

And he would have appeared in that ESPN commerical. Instead of Earnhardt and Petty staring at Johnson they would have been staring at Gordon as he would walk to his #24 car.

So basically the commercial should be like, "Winning a 7th championship might add to your legacy, but is it enough to make you a legend? Because there's big difference between being the best driver of your generation and being the best driver ever." ESPN on Gordon

And Edwards and Johnson would be 2 time champions, Harvick would have a title as well.
