I don't think many NASCAR fans would be against a change in qualifying. A 60-minute open drafting session for the plate-tracks would definitely be worth viewing.

Please Dale win in one of those nice schemes like you did with the Batman one last year. So I have a reason to buy another cool livery car.

I hope group qualifying goes to all tracks. Its hard to beat F1 group qualifying. Even better, copy F1's knockout group qualifying, with only the fastest 50% advancing to the next session etc

I BELIEVE, that sometime in the next few years, NASCAR, may become HENDRICKCAR! This transformation keeps getting more real, every year!

Not sure what that has to do with what I said...can someone explain this cryptic message I've been given?

Jr. Drives for Hendrick?... He doesn't really need anything else to make a comment like that.

Heck, by that logic, Terry Labonte used to drive for Hendrick, so he is going to win the Daytona 500 next year....Wait, that doesn't sound right either.

Session 1- Rear 13 eliminated leaving Top 30, 20-30 minutes.
Session 2- 16-30 are set and done leaving Top 15, 15-25 minutes.
Session 3- Top 15 are set, 10-20 minutes.

Cautions stop the clock, cars locked-down after post-qualifying inspections, $10K for each session winner.

How's that look?

This I would watch! I have been a NASCAR fan for over 40 years and have rarely seen a q-session, I wouldn't miss one in F1 👍

I personally think the 1-2 solo lap qualifying is fine, no need to change. How much simpler can it be?

I would be interested in seeing if they do group qualifying on 1.5-2 mile tracks where the draft does come into play. Perhaps they are trying to rig it so Danica can get a top 10 (Top 20 even) starting spot other than Daytona & Talladega?

I think group quali is fine for a large 2.5 mile track and obviously bigger that F1 does for the size of the field. I don't think half runs in Nascar will work especially for the half mile to mile ovals. Unless they plan to bring more than two cars.

Looks good, but I'd do it just a bit differently

Session 1: 15 minutes, 26th -43rd and slower eliminated, leaving top 25.

- 10 minute break -

Session 2: 10 minutes, 11th - 25th eliminated, leaving top 10

- 10 minute break -

Session 3: 5 minutes, top 10 positions and pole settled

- 10 minute post qualifying interviews etc -

Entire session fits perfectly in a 60 minute window

I wouldn't doubt it at this point......

Wouldn't that require her to be fast for more than 1 lap? She already performs very poorly on race day, so I can't see how this could possibly be a diabolical scheme to help her improve her qualifying position. This system would likely do more harm to Danica than good. Of course, I'm guessing NASCAR doesn't care about how Danica qualifies, and instead cares way more about being able to sell more tickets or increasing advertising revenue during qualifying sessions. The only way to do that is to make qualifying more interesting, which this may or may not accomplish.

But will it be meaningless to you even if they change it next year?

Updates: Crashica Patrick and Stenhouse crashed in practice, Patrick Star has to go to a backup car. :dunce: Denny Hamlin is on pole, with the 2013 champion Jimmie Johnson starting alongside.

Shocker. FTFY BTW

Avoiding the race as usual from start to finish. Can you do that same? :sly:

Also, would anyone like to start giving Ricky a nickname for his crashing antics too?

Wreckhouse?

Anybody else think this is from NBC and FOX pressuring NASCAR into making qualifying shorter in time for 2015?
Instead of a two-three hour session you now have an hour at, say, Daytona

With the re-airing of the Indian Grand Prix and the local FOX affiliate actually showing a Detroit Lions game during the "race", my chances are very high. ;)

That is an interesting thought. I didn't even consider it and just thought it was one of NASCAR rare good decisions actually being considered, but that does make sense if NASCAR is really trying to hold on to all their sponsor and TV revenue.

For all intents and purposes Jimmie has already won, he's just a long cruise from his crown.

2012's Champion (K4eslowski)was simply an anomaly. It does demonstrate that unplanned things can happen, even to Rick Hendrick, in NASCAR. But, Hendrick's firm grip doesn't allow those things to happen often.

Johnson will be Champion, again, unless numerous unforeseen and uncontrolled by Rick Hendrick things occur, i.e. wrecks, flat tires, mechanical breakdowns, Kenseth goes on another hot streak..etc

NASCAR = Now A Sport Controlled According to Rick.
