To be fair, those recommended links appear to change depending on what news item you're looking at.

To be fair, this is a NASCAR thread and those are NASCAR articles and the point being made is there's too much focus on Danica.

Not quite sure if you misinterpreted what I meant. I get the point he was making, but click on a different story and you get a different selection of articles...

For example:

Daytona Nationwide crash: 28 fans injured; Daytona 500 will go on as scheduled NASCAR Nationwide Crash at Daytona

Daytona Nationwide crash: Drivers react to Kyle Larson's scary wreck

The pretty girl who's changing NASCAR

Daytona 500: Starting lineup, favorites, analysis for each driver in 43-car field

.. and if you look at the NASCAR headlines only 1 or 2 out of 30 are about Danica because she's Danica, and not about Danica because she's the pole-sitter for the Daytona 500.

Just sayin'.

Coming from the guy that had the Danica avatar yesterday...

How much did they talk about Carl Edwards when he won pole last year?

Didn't know he had.

Coming from the guy that had the Danica avatar yesterday...

Yeah... felt like going on the hype train. Wasn't what I expected so I got off at next stop.

On topic, I see #21 of Trevor Bayne running well today, and possibly a surprise winner. With a brand new car it's really more open than ever.

EDIT:  CHQR IS ALIVE!!!!!

I waited 25 minutes to get a Danica Autograph after her Sprint Cup practice finished last week before the Sprint Unlimited Race. Turns out, she went for a shower. Flipping women.

Oh well, but got to meet J.J.Yeley, David Reutimann and Dave Rogers with autographs from them all.

To all who are considering seeing a Nascar race whether a U.S. National or not, you have to do it! Last week was my 3rd Sprint Cup race I've been to live. The First was the Subway Fresh Fit 600 at Phoenix in 2010, Good Sam's Club 500 at Talladega in 2011 and the Sprint Unlimited this year.

The FanZone in Sprint Unlimited is truly amazing. Be sure to turn up early on and you'll get to see Sprint Cup cars go in for their inspections with all the crew chiefs there. Later on, some drivers come in for weighing too. If you're a loudmouth like me, just shout for a signature from these guys. You don't ask, you don't get but don't expect much as you're better off getting autographs from their sponsorship stores like Home Depot for Matt Kenseth.

Nonetheless, if you get the chance or opportunity through some Nascar Folk, try and get a Pit Pass too. You'll definitely spot your drivers either walking up for Driver Introductions or checking in with their team literally 2-3 yards away with no chain-link fence in the way. Again, just dive in for autographs but don't expect much. I got a couple of Kyle Busch's pit crew guys and I suppose having the team's apparel on you will help your chances.

Oh yeah and with regards to tickets at Superspeedways, try and get Tower Seats or as high as you can get. The view is enormously better and won't burst your eardrums. On topic of eardrums, FanVision and R.E. radios are well worth the $40 rental for Superspeedways especially tandem drafting races.

I'll definitely be getting pics up soon to get rid of my icky Danica avatar now.

Some "good" news regarding the crash victims.

UPDATE 9am Two fans previously listed in critical condition, including one child, have been upgraded Sunday morning after a horrific crash on the final lap of the Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday. Twenty-eight people suffered some sort of injury. Fourteen were treated at the track, and the others were taken to hospitals. Halifax Health spokesman Byron Cogdell said 12 people were brought in there, seven for treatment from the crash and five for heat exhaustion and other issues. Two of the seven had been in critical condition, including one with life-threatening injuries because of head trauma. But Codgell said Sunday morning that the patients were no longer listed in critical condition. Daytona Beach Police public information officer Jimmie Flynt said another six people were transported to Halifax Urgent Care in Port Orange for minor injuries, and one additional person was transported to Florida Memorial for minor injuries.(USA Today)(2-24-2013)

Hope they continue to improve.👍

The sports media is especially bad.👎

Maybe. Anyone know if there were any law suits after the Carl Edwards incident at Talladega?
Nascar likely would have paid them out & settled it out of court imo... Fighting a lawsuit would make them look terrible....
When you attend a race, you assume the risk of flying debris in the stands. That is what the fine print is for. Don't want to get hit, sit further away. It's like entering a track day with your own car. You sign a waver that says if you kill yourself it's not the tracks fault. You basically sign the same waver when you purchase that ticket.

That's cold...these people are paying their hard earned money to watch a race, the drivers in these series are payed a fortune, they have the best possible protection, the driver's whole livlehood is based on the backs of those people who come and buy tickets...who watch the races on TV and your saying the fans should blame themselves? I hope that's not what you meant, I hope you did not say they should sit farther away! Have you never heard of the CART Michigan tire incident? Those people were sitting a ways away.

What did Carl Edwards say after 2009..."I couldn't live with myself if I went into the stands." Now I can agree that a massive $500 million lawsuit is unfair, and many lawyers are snake like but blaming fans of a sport that simply want their their money's worth is a bit unfair too!

And dont tell me a 210 pound engine flying at 100+ mph is the same as a hockey puck flying into a bleacher or a 100 pound wheel/tire moving at pitching speed is the same as a baseball!

Be funny if Stenhouse wins rookie of the year over Danica.

It would be shocking if it didn't happen.

Danica's only six chances at a top 10 finish this season are the four plate races and two road course races. I am willing to bet she misses on more than half of those six chances. In the other thirty races, she won't record a single top ten finish this season.

You take that risk though Rich, and although advances in safety are always being made, that element of danger still exists. People should not be oblivious to the fact that racing is dangerous and things can go wrong quick, and although yesterday was a freak accident, people should not just expect things like that not to happen.

My prediction on the pre-race show, in chronological order.

Talk about crash & victims
Talk to Danica about crash & victims
Short piece on new car
Talk to Danica about new car
Talk to Danica about qualifying
Talk to Danica about the race
Talk to Earnhardt Jr... about Danica
Talk to Danica about her breakfast
Talk to Ricky Stenhouse about being a rookie in the 500 before switching to his relationship with Danica

According to Jayski the race starts at 1:20ET for those wanting to miss the Danica pre-race show.

Exactly why I frown on people watching races hoping to see wrecks and cheering when they happen. Every wreck is a chance for injury or death to drivers as well as fans. Some argue that it's okay because all drivers drive knowing they can get hurt, but you drive to the store with the possibility of an accident so does that make it fine for me to wish wrecks on those people? I'd like to be there when one of these I-love-wrecks fans when they have a wreck on the road so I can run by cheering.

Last couple of times I remember a tire going into the stands multiple people were killed. If everyone pulls out of this its really a miracle.

To be clear, the tire went through the compromised catch fence, not over.

My thoughts are still with the fans who were injured from the Nationwide crash yesterday. As the saying goes, the show must go on. So I'm looking forward to the green flag being dropped for the 2013 Daytona 500. As much as I love Danica Patrick, I got one of these drivers to win the race: Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, or maybe even Carl Edwards.

We are all still talking about the whole unfortunate incident on the last lap of the Nationwide race at Daytona. However, let be me lighthearted for a moment and make mention to "Fusion Evolution." This was a program I just saw on FOX this morning. I really do enjoy this crop of new models for NASCAR's top series. The whole emphasis was on "stock returns to racing" as these newer Generation 6 cars look much more like their road-going counterparts. Sure, we'll find out later today just what these cars can do in racing. But I am rather excited seeing these cars, and I am also pretty proud seeing these cars and how closely they resemble the road-going counterparts.

Having said all of this... best of luck to all teams and drivers at the 2013 Daytona 500. Hope everyone on track and away from the track are all well and safe.

Why does Fox' opening scene have a GT-R?

Edit: My first two predictions were correct.

Edit 2: Took 9 minutes to mention Danica.
