Penske will be running Roush-built cars. Their ability to compete at the same level should depend only on the skill of their drivers and crew cheifs.

The same will be true of EGR this year, now that they are running HMS cars/engines.

Yes but since they are just a customer so to speak like stewart haas is to Hendrick, that is all the more reason they won't be up to par with the best ford team in the field. R&D takes time and with the limited testing the best way to do that is on race weekends. The bigger question is will there be a dominant team like Hendrick did with the first year of the Car Of Tomorrow. That might be interesting.

New fan of NASCAR here. Watched a bit of it last year but the fast paced nature of the calendar dates meant it was hard for me to keep up. Tried Grand-Am but finding decent steaming coverage of the Rolex 24 was hard other than the static cameras on stream.speedtv.com. NASCAR is much better for me.

I am aware of the changes of course. I came equipped with the knowledge of the plans and moves for 2013. I see straight away Penske has moved from running a Dodge to the Ford Fusion. Is this on the whole a good move? I was a fan of theirs in 2012.

My advice to you and all new fans of NASCAR, don't watch the classic races on YouTube or else you'll become disgusted with what NASCAR has degraded into in recent years. :yuck: All the top drivers and media members say that 2013's going to be the best season in years *they're told by NASCAR and their sponsors before every season to say that*, but I'll believe it when the series goes to Las Vegas, the first of the many cookie cutter tracks, and the cars aren't running around funeral-procession style after just 2 laps.

This.^^^^ Every year they say oh we really think the racing will be good this year and every year it's the same bs. I certainly don't have my hopes up for this year either, although seeing different cars again will be nice. That and my driver win.:sly:

You know what, I actually this year am not even remotely excited about anything outside the truck series. I will watch I'm sure but after this weekend being in Daytona for Rolex 24, whole different ballgame.

That has really surprised me that like. I really thought that the GEN-6 cars were going to make the series even better what I read about it.

Drivers were honest about the COT, why would they not be honest about the gen 6 car?

Considering that no one truly liked the last car, and a lot of drivers have already given approval, I think this may be an interesting year at least.

I can recall many of them sorta echoing the same things. There's actually some audio around with Dale Jr just trashing it on the radio all race long.

Seeing as the drivers are the ones actually driving the cars and not us, I kinda find it hard to doubt what they say about the Gen 6 to be true or not and given how it has far more praise before it has even race its first race then the COT ever did throughout its lifetime, I find it hard not to believe this will actually put on a good show. Besides, I doubt that saying the racing will be good this year will change the fan's minds when the tickets are still outrageously priced, which has repeatidly been sighted as the far bigger issue along with race distances that don't match said prices.

Mainly because ratings are down, sponsors are leaving, and nobody can sell tickets anymore?
The situation now is no different than it has been for any other point in the past 4 years, so why would only now drivers start lying about it? They were already losing sponsors. Races were already having tons of empty seats. People were already only watching a handful of races.

When the COT first came out, the ratings might of been down a little bit but they hadn't started free-falling (Mainly thanks to the COT boredom and Jimmie's Reign of Terror). Same with track attendance (At least Bristol was still selling out). As far as sponsor wise, it's not just how many are leaving, but how much they are scaling back (Off the top of my head, there's only 3 cars with one sponsor for the vast majority of the season, those being the 2, 10, and 48). 4 years ago, could you have imagined Roush having only 3 cars, with quite a few races being "Ford Ecoboost" for all 3 cars?
Granted they could of started complimenting the car in, oh, like 08-09. But they did like most of the changes NASCAR made to the car in those seasons. I'm not saying the new car itself is bad and none of the drivers like it, but there has to be a little bit of pressure to like the car.

The #20, #11, #18, #42 perhaps add to that?

I'll give you the 11, 18 (Just different Mars brands with like 4 Interstate Battery races) and kind of for the 42 (Target makes deals with its retail partners to be on the car for such and such weekend, which is what led to the Taylor Swift car), but the 20 has Home Depot for 21 races and Dollar General for 17.

And Casey Mears with the GEICO #13.

Also Stanley/DeWalt(same parent company) on the 9 and Napa on the 56.

Also, Aaron's on the 55 and 5 Hour on the 15 and Pennzoil sponsor a good majority of races with only 3-5 being other companies.

This could hurt Stenhouse's legacy.
