The style or font used on the number.

Really, how old are you?? I'm just wandering.

Old enough to know how to take a picture of his dad's C4 Corvette and claim it as his own and then proceed to ask how to do donuts.

Oh duh, sorry I was like "Microgramma? What's that?" lol

It's a C3 and It's in my dad's name only! Dammit! lol

Most of Richard Childress Racing #'s are Microgramma I've discovered, as well as EGR #'s (Which essentially means the 1 of Parks)
And that legacy of the microgramma font used on Childress's Chevrolets will never die! (Even know RCR is most likely going to make the switch to Dodge at some point in the future)

Steve Park's #1 was never microgramma btw!

Good fricken grief, I can't watch any of these races without horrible contact for the lead on the last lap. Might as well have called these two nights "Bumper cars on the beach".

I normally don't watch any of the lower series, but a guy I raced with for years was running the race so I watched the K&N series tonight and I have to agree with RACECAR, it was an absolute joke. I like to see rubbing, racing and a few wrecks, but this was an all out brawl. It was rather embarrassing watching what appeared to be children in their 5hp Briggs and Stratton gokarts, just running into the back of each other with no respect or regard for anyone else on the track, caution after caution.

ICEYOU, although you have 1,500 posts on a Gran Turismo forum, I'm not sure if you play GT, but if you do, check out the Nissan YellowHat GT-R. Specifically the roof.

I think the whole "Battle on the Beach" concept is a good one. Most of the action was just riddled with cautions. The whole thing may need to be modified extensively in case we see this run at Daytona in 2014. I saw half of the Modified race but none of the Pro Series race.

Anyone else notice the Mclaren trailer during Clint Bowyer's interview during practice today?

Meh, 6/10 at best

The NW cars need a body change again. I think the fronts need to be more aggressive, and the side closer to their production car counterparts.

Or they could just make them like the Challenger that was posted a while back as that would be 🤬 awesome.

At a restrictor plate track, you should expect the driver that weighs the least to run the fastest time. Expect Danica to be fast, and Michael Waltrip to be slow.

Except all the cars weigh the same with driver and everything else added.

Score one for the two drivers that most resemble little race horse jockeys, size-wise.

More on that here:

EDIT - Dale Jr. blew an engine in practice today, and it's "possible" (though extremely unlikely) that Dale Jr. could miss the Daytona 500, assuming a string of unlikely scenarios all play out together in the Dual races. Again, it's only "possible" not "probable." I think we're all going to like the new qualifying rules that lock in the fastest 36 cars every week instead of just the top 35 in points.

Going back to what I posted before, NASCAR owns the numbers, which means, they have control over the design. So, unless a team wants to submit a different font with their number request, they end up getting whichever design is already in use.

Yes and no. Yes, NASCAR owns the number rights. They distribute them out to the teams, if available, at request, with standing teams taking precedent, though there are alternatives (Jr.'s jump for example). However, NASCAR only deals the number itself. As long as the design doesn't violate Copyright/Trademark laws, or NASCAR's rules for numbers(no letters, hyphens, symbols, etc.), NASCAR will go with it.

Nnot a great image, but could have fooled me.

Fonts/Typefaces are actually exempt from US copyright law, at least for re-use, because of their "simplicity". Technically, each team could all use the same one (or whatever they wanted), and there would be no violation. But I suppose it acts "like a logo" for some teams/drivers...but actual logos are trademarked. A #88 done up in either Helvetica or the actual typeface on Dale Jr.'s car would not be a violation of any US law, even if the driver incorporates himself.

The names of fonts and the embedded/coded information which they are constructed of, is subject to copyright.

If this unlikely scenario happens, NASCAR will promptly make changes to ensure their "cash cow" drivers never have to worry about making races again. :grumpy:

As much as I've questioned many of NASCAR's decisions, I think you're being abit pessimestic on that. The chances of him actually not making it are far less likely then him making it. Hell freezing over has a better chance of happening then Dale Jr not being in the 500.

Isn't there one or two teams who purchased number rights from NASCAR? Didn't RCR buy the #3?

The 3 is a special case though, in that there is an agreement among all current Cup team owners not to slap a 3 of any kind on a non RCR car.

I thought Childress just renewed the number every year, even though he isn't (yet) putting it on a car. As long as he renews every year, I'm pretty sure he gets the right to retain the number as long as he wants, which blocks anyone else from using the number. If Childress ever didn't renew, someone could theoretically take/use the number 3, even if it would be PR suicide.

That's the impression I was under as well. Since he was the last one to field a car with that number, he has first dibs on claiming it each season. Since 2002 he's been claiming it but not using it.

That's pretty pointless.

Not really, currently a good chunk of potential viewers are at work/school and can only catch the end of the 2nd race if they are lucky*. I just can't understand why it took so long for them to do it.

*I fully realize not everyone works, 9-5 but a bigger chunk of people do.

Agreed 100%. Trying to find a site to stream the event behind a corporate firewall is a nightmare. I'm just hoping IT isn't paying attention to all the "Access Denied" pages I'm finding. :ouch:
