Not really, currently a good chunk of potential viewers are at work/school and can only catch the end of the 2nd race if they are lucky*. I just can't understand why it took so long for them to do it.


*I fully realize not everyone works, 9-5 but a bigger chunk of people do.

Its not like they don't already show the replay that same night anyways. It just seems like they are once again chasing viewers.
 
As best I can tell, the following drivers are locked into the Daytona 500:

The top 2 qualifiers are locked in to their starting spot on the front row for Sunday:

1. Danica Patrick (qualified on pole)
2. Jeff Gordon (qualified outside pole)


The following 4 drivers are locked in on speed. They do not need to finish in the top 16 in their dual race to be in the Daytona 500:

3. Trevor Bayne (would start 33rd if outside top 16 in his Dual Race)
4. Ryan Newman (34th)
5. Tony Stewart (35th)
6. Kasay Kahne (36th)


The last 6-7 spots are awarded based on highest owner points from last season, which locks in the following 6 cars:

7. Brad Keselowski (would start 37th, if outside the top 16 in his Dual Race)
8. Clint Bowyer (38th)
9. Jimmie Johnson (39th)
10. Greg Biffle (40th)
11. Denny Hamlin (41st)
12. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (42nd)


The final spot would go to the most recent past champion not already locked in above:

13. Kurt Busch (43rd, if not in top 16 in his dual race)


There you go. These are the only 13 drivers that are absolutely guaranteed to be in the race on Sunday, as of right now.

People like watching things live, watching a re-broadcast doesn't have the same feeling.

Given their numbers lately they kind of have too. This years Shootout/Unlimited was down 2 million viewers from last year's.

I agree with this. And what exactly did Regan do? I didn't see him do anything...
 
Well, that was unexpected. Only one caution and the finish had no wrecks. Very undual-like today, but thats just Dual 1.
 
They didn't show the whole thing, but I think he slipped in oil, or just lost it trying to evade the Hamlin/Edwards wreck.

Yeah I saw that. And he get's a nasty comment from Stewart for it? Please... :dunce:
 
I'm confused, do the top 43 cars in qualifying make the race rule no longer in effect? Or is that only for Daytona?

The two cars who missed the race were Keselowski and Bliss. They happened to be the two slowest.

Yeah. Bliss and Brian Keselowski don't make it to the 500. Not sure why they focused so much on "transfer spots".

Because they were doing it in formality. Same reason they say that driver X isn't eliminated even when they are beyond 47 points behind.
 
Am I the only one expecting the worst 500 in years?
I'm bored watching these races. Pack racing was great, the 2 car tandem was interesting, but these new cars are just following in a line. They can't bump draft, they can't get runs, you can't really pass. They're rarely running 3 wide, it appears as if the track/car combo can't even support 2 lines of cars.

Maybe, hopefully, it's just because people are being conservative to try and make the race in one piece, but thus far I'm thoroughly disappointed with all 3 races.

I would be willing to bet thats why. This is still a new car and with parts being limiting, no one is as willing to take chances yet. Expect over the season as more cars become available for people to then take more risks.
