From the Goodyear tire notes, they have rain tires for Nationwide only. I recall they actually had some for Cup in the past but they must have been like parachutes with holes because they avoided using them at all costs.

Oh, and it appears that Fox Sports 1 hasn't reached a deal with everyone yet. Guess we'll be paying even more to watch racing preempted by just about everything or lose the channel on our current packages.

FS2 has already been spoke of during Barrett-Jackson Hot August Nights (on now). They will also be taking of Nat Geo for some sports programming in Sept!

This is going to blow up in their face.
 
So let me get this this straight, Fox will replace:


A Motorsports channel (Speed)

A Action Sports Channel (Fuel TV)

A Documentary Channel (National Geographic)



Just for "America's new Sports Network". I guess it isn't just us Motorsports fans that are being robbed starting August 17th. Brilliant idea :rolleyes:
 
FOX has money to do almost whatever they want. Doesn't mean we have to approve of it all, though. But then too... so does NBC, CBS, and ABC/ESPN- and each have their own big name sports network. Surely RACECAR and I (and others) disapprove of all of the changes coming with FOX Sports 1. Like I said on Speed's Facebook fan page once- "if this is the fight you want to fight, fine. Just compensate for us racing fans that stuck with you even in the Speedvision days." This is going to be to the point where certain markets are somehow no longer good enough for mass media. Could you imagine what would happen if NASCAR would have to be relegated to second-rate networks or online/mobile viewing? NASCAR would be even more screwed than what it is now.

Great shame, but we can only do so much as fans. I only watch Speed and not Fuel TV or National Geographic. So this hurts me more than seeing either Fuel TV and/or Nat Geo going away.
 
Fuel isn't even HD on Dish! Why use bandwidth for a channel that is rarely watched. Nat Geo, I don't have a clue where it's at in my guide. I think I may have watched one show on the channel since I've been a Dish sub, altogether since 2000.

Right now they are running a Multi Sport Pack for $11 commercial. I have a bad feeling FS1&2 are going to be dumped into some ridiculous package. It should be a standard channel like ESPN's group. We already have a bunch of Fox sports channels I don't ever watch. I highly doubt loyal Fox Soccer viewers will be happy to see NASCAR qualifying!

This better blow up in FOX's and NASCAR's faces for the sake of the original channels. :sly: I can already envision endless NASCAR related documentaries on National Geographic with "The Hillbilly Twins" doing all of the narration while SPEED Channel completely descends into a "redneck reality" show hell hole. :scared:

And yet Nationwide has only three Road courses (which also don't make up the majority of the schedule and are all in the US so no "Too expensive to fly overseas" excuse there) but they have fully developed rain tires. To me, there is just no excuse for the Cup Series to continue this. Both their lower series have far more variety then they do.

Sprint Cup on Rain tires would be a disaster and everyone knows it.
 
Having rain tires on Cup cars is like having wine with a very greasy burger- it just wouldn't work.
Just look at Nationwide when it ran rain tires at Montreal.

What happened to the Trucks at Eldora when a driver tried to exceed the level of grip? Yup, they spun. What was the solution? Unfortunately, I don't think NASCAR allowed drastic suspension adjustments to create more mechanical grip to compensate for the weight of the trucks. So, what happened? The race was SSSSSLLLLOOOOOWWWW.

You've seen F1 race in the rain right? The amount of spray is incredible!!! The speeds they race at, racing in pea soup fog is NOT safe.
 
So its ok for Trucks to race on Dirt, but not ok for Cup cars to have rain tires. What. The Hell.


@Ganon83: Of course they were spinning, because these same drivers don't race in the rain enough. Certain trucks were slow and spun at Eldora. Why? Because they don't race Trucks on Dirt enough.

I feel its hardly an argument. Goodyear has the ability to develop Rain tires for cup (especially now that they are much lighter then before) but no, no one wants to take a chance and mix up the Cup series "because it'll be a disaster". There are still drivers that suck at Road courses but they haven't stopped holding them, have they?
 
They need to maybe consider moving the track date as nearly every year it seems, we get delayed at the Glen.

This is probably the best date, it's the driest point of the year up here in NY right now, except recently it has decided to cool down early.

I know they shifted the Spring Talladega race to compensate for early season weather changes. It just seems a shame as my dad and I always consider travelling to see the race which is near New York and of course I'm from London so its just a couple of weeks we can really spend there and since its always risky with weather, we've never been to the Glen.

I've been to 3 Watkins Glen races, and all three of them were sunny and in the mid 90's. They have a good camping area right around there, but living somewhat close to it, I never did it, but I know people that go there yearly and camp out for a week there before checking out the vineyards around there as well.
