This means that Newman is down to 3 options, at best:

1. RCR's yet-to-be-announced 4th team car, pending sponsorship.
2. Furniture Row Racing's #78 car
3. Turner-Scott Motorsports's #51 car (assuming they bought Phoenix Racing, and assuming they haven't already picked another driver for this car)

Thinking.. what about some other teams? Front Row Motorsports? CircleSport expanded to 2 cars now (33 and 40), BK Racing perhaps or (long shot) would Penske run an extra car?

I keep thinking that third option could be the most likely thanks to his hendrick affiliation through SHR.

Penske won't be adding a third car for Newman. If he could get one, he would be much more likely to promote Hornish. I don't think there is any way Newman would drive any of those other cars, because it would basically signal the end of his career as a competitive driver (see Labonte, Bobby).

Speaking of which, I guess the 47 is open next year, too. I've heard they want AJ, though.

If the RCR expansion deal falls through, you have to think that Newman to FRR's #78 car makes the most sense for both parties. It would be the pairing of the best available car with the best available driver.

I think EGR is making a mistake to rush up Larson. He needs at least one more year in Nationwide.

There are rumors that Buescher will be the driver for the new team whatever the 51 picks number wise because it looks as if Chase Elliott will be in the "31" next year or whatever number.

Kyle might be rushed but at the same time he is used to the faster, ill handling sprint cars which might suit his style better but might be bad move. It's one of those hard things to say.

I think the 47 will get a new driver and also be a Chevy too, wouldn't surprise me to see someone like JPM in it, and the 78 could get Newman since that seems like the better fit not the other way around. AJ is rumored to be in the NW 22 for Penske next year full time which seems like a great move all around to get him even more known and back on track than some lower tier Cup team where he is known for mid pack finishes.

I reckon AJ's going to the 47. Also RCR still have the 31... Perhaps Hornish would get that #12 he has piloted part time on a full time basis?

Have you heard that Burton isn't going to be back next season? I know a lot of people have suggested it might be a good idea, but I haven't heard anyone say it was likely to really happen.

When we find out who is in the 42, we'll know who is going in the 78.

Not really, as Newman could go to the 78, or the 29 (assuming Dillon brings back the #3). I think Montoya's only chance to stay in NASCAR depends on RCR getting a deal done for Newman in the 29. If Newman gets in the 78, I think Montoya is out of Sprint Cup.

love how i'm just now finding this out.

Oh well, chances are it'll likely take a while for the truck series drivers to get those 1'21s. Been a while since the trucks have gone road course racing.

At least i bested you ;)

1:24.187 ;)

Where the hell are you finding the speed?

I have no idea. Have my replay.

mosport123704.rpy

I just qualified and got a 1:23.704. This is with me getting loose out of 1, and almost completely blowing turn 3, so there's still more speed to be found.

EDIT: I'm also using the clutch and heel-toeing the whole time. iRacing gives you a tiny speed penalty for using any shifting aids.

It goes to show you that EGR is a "must-win" now mode.

No it doesn't, it means they have a much needed seat to fill. Larson will probably do just fine even if rushed, he is used to the power which might help more.

They should bring back the #8 for Larson if they're going to put him in cup next year. That way he won't be in Montoya and Jamie's shadow.

Some drivers do better than others when thrown in the deep end. Just look at Carl Edwards, he was half way through his 2nd truck season when he started Cup and managed to win 4 races in his first full Cup season.

I think the team will play more of a role in his success than the driver, the team has been way to inconsistent for a young driver to show their potential.

But you were the one that said a team owned the number not anyone else, so you're basically contradicting yourself. Also SHR as reported on here you can look it up are trying to get the 00 number.

Some teams are actually allowed to own font styles of numbers, like RCR and the #3.
