Looks like another case of making one general design language, and then try to paste it onto as many models as possible.

Looks pretty good actually. The interior reminds me of early 90s Nissan, except everything looks chunky. This car is so japanese lol.

The Japanese companies must have signed an agreement in the 80s - they chose their interior color options in that one meeting and have refused to offer anything else since.

YOO MAKE CHOICE: Beige, Gray, Brack. DATS ALL AYOO GET.

It actually looks pretty nice, if not a little bit anonymous.

For people who treat cars as appliances, it does make a pretty compelling argument for itself.

I thought it was the Maxima that was supposed get the V8 ?

Apparently the production car does NOT have to be RWD V8 like I thought. The Altima is replacing the Maxima next year in Australia, so that pretty much explains it.

Body Style: Coupe???

How big is this thing? It looks about the size of a new Taurus, which would make it HUGE.

It looks the size of the Maxima, which is the size of a Taurus (but doesn't look as massive), which means the next Maxima is going to be redunkulous assuming they make one at all.

It's not terribly larger than the old car. Press release says 0.8 inches longer and 1.4 inches wider. Weight is down 79 pounds.

My car has brue interior.

Initial impression based on exterior photograph:

Not as visually striking as the Toyota Camry SE

That's a Nissan? The Versa and Juke still give me doubts...

I'd agree with you except that I already forget what the Camry looks like.

But I haven't forgotten the new Fusion because it's a number one stunna. Totally better than this thing.

I know most of you are aware that I'm awkwardly interested in mid-size family sedans, and I have to admit that this is a very exciting time for me. All of the new, or significantly updated sedans are competing at a level where I never would have expected them to be a year ago.

With the competition being so thick, I think the big thing to take away is that each brand is going to have to carve out a particular part of the segment in order to be successful. The thing is, choosing any of the new crop of sedans really doesn't put you on that much of a disadvantage compared to choosing another. Its going to be small things here and there... But I think where the Altima is going to fall behind is that, overall, the car isn't that radical of a departure from its predecessor compared to, well, everything else out there.

How I'd stack them up currently:

1) Ford Fusion: C'mon. EcoBoost across the range, incredibly sexy looks for every trim level, looks like they actually care about building a class-leading car

2) Toyota Camry: This is only for the SE model. They've made a proper Camry for the first time since 2001, so, that's an achievement

3) VW Passat: Considering the disappointing Jetta, this is a success deserving of cake. Not quite as good as the B5.5, but is still the wise choice for those who know what's up

4) Kia Optima: Even at nearly two years old, its still quite the car. Sporty ride/drive, good fuel economy, low-low Korean price

5) Honda Accord: Typical choice, but its always been good. Its getting old, enough for a replacement, but damn good.

...The Chevrolet Malibu should be up there, but I'm waiting for the new engines. The Eco alone isn't good enough.

I played around with a new turbo Optima not too long ago. Very nice. All cars these days are nicer than what I'm used to, but I was impressed with everything from the design inside and out to the materials and fit-and-finish. To think that the Passat and hopefully the Fusion are that much better is just fantastic.

Kinda makes me want a 2 because these "mid size" sedans are just too fancy.

It looks like a reskined Australian market Maxima, our Maxima will become Altima... so it is all making sense.

That seems to be the trend doesn't it? Everyone turning to "world cars" as opposed to region specific models. Cheaper production costs I suppose, it would be nice to see the savings passed on to the consumer though :indiff:

So not sure how long these have been on the road, but over the last couple weeks I've seen quite a few of them. Seem to be selling well so far. Starting to grow on me, but I still think Mazda has them all beat.
