2014 Cadillac CTS: This Is It

Goodbye Art and Science, hello Bronx High School of Science. It's the 2014 Cadillac CTS, now fully leaked and in all its new-luxury glory ahead of a formal unveiling at the New York Auto Show this week.

After all the teasers, we're looking at the new design, which expands on themes introduced on the XTS and ATS. Most obviously, the CTS sedan sloughs off the angular shapes of the previous version in favor of a more traditional, less avant garde design.

Still, it does seem to combine a more aggro front end like the ATS with the more conservatively rendered rear of the XTS. And yes, check out those LEDs. It's like a Long Island nightclub up in there.

Either way, it'll likely have a baseline, 3.6 liter V6 producing 320-hp, and a new, 3.6-liter, twin-turbo V6 producing 420-hp. That engine will merely bridge the gap between the non-V models and the V8-power V models.

That 420-hp 3.6 will put power down by way of an eight speed autobox, good for 0-60 in 4.6 seconds.

Just imagine what the V will be.

Inside, it's got the now familiar nu-Cadillac wood- and leather-rich interior, along with the customizable LCD dash introduced with the XTS.

It's classy, it's got an edge and looks like it'll put up a decent fight against the Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5-Series and Audi A6, the go-to models in the category. How will Cadillac fare in this new phase as the "upstart brand" in the all-important midsize luxury space? I'd bet on it.

I really like the way it looks and is a huge improvement over the last two generations, which I thought looked awful. The same design cues on the ATS are horrid, but they suit a larger car way better.

Err, no thanks. I like this current generation a lot better. The only thing I await is how they're going to turn that design into something that looks like a sports car.

That's actually not bad, I rather like that design. The back isn't very nice, but the front is pretty.

Nice! If only they got rid of those blue lights.

Holy crap they went full blown goomba on it. Every Middle-aged Italian in the NY metro area is going to want one of these.

I like it overall. First thing I would do is get rid of those Christmas rope lights and plug the holes in the bumper.

Hopefully it's got more room in the back seat compared to the last pathetic one. Looks G8-sized anyway.

I just accessed Jalopnik.com a few seconds ago and the first picture I saw was this:

For mere milliseconds I thought I was looking at the current Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Then I saw the headlights and the title.

I see a lot of first gen Infiniti M45 in the side profile.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing in and of itself. I liked how the M45 looked.

Those lights aren't blue, you can't have blue lights on a car in the US. They are white LEDs.

The car definitely looks appropriate, and my concerns over the rear being far too boring seem to be somewhat unfounded. That's a significant positive. The addition of the turbo V6 and the V-Sport model shoots right up the butt of both the BMW and Mercedes. It's an awfully big move upmarket, and it only makes Lincoln look even more inept. Beyond that, it definitely leaves room for the Chevrolet SS, it looks like they were mindful of where the money will be going.

No major complaints. The red color looks terrible. That's about all I can add.

Oh, goodness that Red is bad indeed. The rear looks great though. They finally fixed it.

So apparently it's going to have the ATS' turbo four, the current 3.6 liter V6, and the turbo V6, according to their website.

Now this is interesting.

EDIT - More Info

http://www.carscoops.com/2013/04/new-cadillac-ats-coupe-coming-next-year.html
The Cadillac ATS has already caused quite a stir in the industry, ever since it went on sale. They even had to tone down the production of the CTS at the time of the ATS’ launch, as it was stealing just so many of its sales. Now, its appeal will be even greater with the addition of a coupe variant, which has already been shown to US dealers, along with the redesigned Escalade.
According to one of Carscoops' sources who has seen the car, the new ATS coupe "has the same door handles as the ATS sedan, rather than the recess "hidden" door handles on the current CTS coupe."

GMInside News, which quoted an "insider" on the matter, reported that the ATS coupe will be considerably less radical than the CTS Coupe, adding that it gets longer doors, and a redesigned greenhouse, but apart from that it should look pretty much like the sedan.

No official time frame for the car’s launch was given, but the same inside source told the website that a mid-2014 date is quite realistic.

All in all, the ATS’ transition to a coupe body style should be a very successful one, as the car’s profile looks to be made for it. Predictably, it will be the better looking variant, and the most striking, until a possible coupe version of the new CTS is made, keeping the same rakish design philosophy as its predecessor.

Less dramatic than the CTS Coupe. So def won't have the crazy wedge shape. The front end of the car does scream awesome Coupe-ready design at certain angles.

I love it. I love everything about it.

ACK! Those LED lights are terrible. IMO American automakers don't know how to do the LED trend... The rest of the car is nice. I wouldn't say great, but nice.

I'd generally prefer if the whole LED thing just stopped. It looks downright silly, and now that people are trying to put them on their used-ish 2005 Chevrolet Malibu sedans, it's a little too popular.
