That was a rare great 0-0, someone had better sign Ochoa up quick!

Great job Mexico! Really hope the CONCACAF teams advance to the next round.

Man of the match is definitely the goal keeper.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ochoa goes to a big club after the World Cup. Easily man of the match today.

Good game, would have been better if the ref actually called fouls though.

Goodbye, Brazil's chance of the final.

It's definitely Netherlands v France at this rate. All of the important teams have played one game, and Brazil have settled my biggest question.

I WOULD be surprised if he doesn't. Ajaccio had the luxury of having him 3 YEARS!!!!

SAINT MEMOOOOO!!!

I don't get why you were complaining about this match.

It was awesome: very well disputed, fast-paced and played with immense passion and commitment.

And then there were all those pretty faces in the audience. :sly:

What about germany? I "hate" them ( :D )... but they have an excelent team.

Last up tonight is Russia-South Korea, tomorrow is Australia-Holland, Spain-Chile and Cameroon-Croatia....

Germany simply don't win this stuff these days.
They've had a fair chance to beat every team that beat them in the major tournaments recently. But they've collapsed in extra time, but they collapsed against one Spain header (Euro 08 was a fair and square win), collapsed against Balotelli and, actually, since they face France first, might collapse even earlier than before.
But to be fair, we haven't seen France against the other two teams in their group. Never mind the fact they always do brilliantly every other World Cup.

They're a great team. Not winners.

Man, that was intense.
Mexico goalkeeper is great

If there was a Nobel Prize for Goalkeeping, he would have won it for that performance.
It's going to be almost impossible for a keeper to have a better game than Ochoa's game today.

Russia needs to come out strong and build some momentum from tonight's game. The Group is theirs for the taking.

South Korea have more chance of winning this.
They are the embodiment of the Asian-style team spirit. They all keep running for days. Not as technically gifted as Japan but can sometimes match them in practice.
Russia just feel so lukewarm. I can't feel anything from them. And if Algeria pushed Belgium that hard, then even they stand a chance against Russia.

Deffinitely a keepers game. Brazil coluld have scored three times, Mexico two or so, but the keepers were the stars. It was an entretaining match, well played by Mexico: if you can't go one-on-one with Brazil's deffense, try long-distance shots, and put a lot of pressure on the back. There were like 20 minutes where Mexico had Bazil against the wall.

All in all, it could have been way worse for Mexico, ut they played well and stood up to the brazilians.

It took them 80 minutes to beat Algeria.
Dark horses? Semi-finals? Ask my arse.

What kind of a first game were you expecting from Belgium?

Honestly, this is a group of very young players who have never been to a World Championship, except for Van Buyten. Kompany said after the game that the entire squad was bloody nervous and they couldn't play for tits.

Give them time. Fellaini and Mertens should be in the teambase, and not substitutes. It's pretty clear how the game became one sided after the first 10-15 minutes. There's is no doubt they will advance, and I even give them a shot against Portugal.

On that, there is no way Brazil will make it to the finals. It's an overrated team. I also think Holland has yet to fully establish their form. The Spain they played is the worst Spain we've seen in at least 10 years. I'm not convinced by Argentina yet. France looks rather good.

I feel pretty certain Germany will be in the finals, but I'd have no idea who they would be facing.

Good overview of the World Cup and agree with everything you said but don't give the bold part a great chance, actually...

Let's see... Football turns out to be our shame pretty often. I still remember the game with Greece on Euro 2012. :O

One where they didn't go behind against Algeria, certainly.
Nerves are a thing for the team of course, but everyone talked of the sheer quality. Which had been overestimated before.
Also, you wouldn't want this year's Fellaini in the 11. The Man Utd fan here says he is ****ing dreadful.
Luckily for you it would appear Portugal won't be qualifying this year thanks to their incompetence. So it'll be the USA for them (sadly) and Belgium should do a job against them. Provided they don't slip up in the meantime - and Korea can pose a challenge.
So it's either (a lucky) quarters or a last 16 for them.

Yep... they'd have to keep a clean sheet and score a goal from their own penalty box or save a small puppy from drowning at half time.

I'd like to see a Germany Holland final. Would be a classic for sure.

I don't think you should take up football punditry.

Russia falling apart right now.

Butter fingers, Akinfeev.

This match finally got the goal it needed courtesy of Lee Keun-ho.

What a terrible attempt at a save from the Russian keeper. 1-0 South Korea.

Oh dear.

I guess this is why Barcelona passed up on him.
